Alternative brand if you don't want to support this company: https://www.sodaking.com.au/

or Philips do one too now: https://www.philips.com.au/c-p/ADD4902WH_79/gozero-soda-make…

Any particular reason you don't want to support that company?

      • Political reasons best not debated here.

    • it could be harder to get the swap over for the gas on those brands, the sodastream brand can be swapped at some woolworths and most big W's

      • +1

They're compatible with all gas cylinders so you could use those too.

        • oh nice

    • The Phillips is a nice sleek design however it has the old fashioned screw in bottle fittings not the newer click-in fittings that's infinitely more convenient.

  • I still don't understand what the electric version of these actually do?

    • Maybe a solenoid activates on button press, rather than manual pressure valve?

      • Yeah I think that's it. Ehh

  • +5

the non-electric can be had for ~$40 secondhand - with 2+ bottles pretty easily. Not much reason to buy sodastreams new.

Also, they're not hard to use, and take less than 10 seconds to operate. Absolutely no reason to pay the premium for the electric version.

    • Does it make a difference how much you press it? Espresso if same grind size and weight tastes completely different on a 18 second pull versus a 23 second pull
(ie. does the bubbles change if you manually press it for longer? or is there a limit)

      • Well, the more you press it, the more carbonated the water gets. These are pretty simple machines. I usually do 3 or 4 2-3 second pushes, and stop once you hear the gas escaping.

I also tend to use teabags rather than syrups.

        • Tea bags filled with tea or other things to infuse the water?

A good machine. I've had mine for years.

A neg because the site forces you to "sign up" to get a postage quote, essentially harvesting people's details before even showing them the postage cost. Good luck with that!

Notwithstanding all that these can be had for around $169 at David Jones.

    • Hi there. Just to clarify - we don't force sign-up to calculate shipping, and we certainly aren't harvesting data :)
To get a shipping quote, simply add to cart, go to cart and on the right hand side is a shipping calculator - simply enter State, City and Post Code and it will give you a shipping quote - no need to sign up.
Also, we have capped shipping at max $20 - so you can choose whichever is lower.

      • Ok thanks. I've only checked on your mobile page and i can't see the option for a postage quote.

  • Can anyone explain why I would forego the cordless convenience of my current carbonator for this? Seems like a downgrade.

    • Well indeed , it is for people who have their SodaStream already near a Power point. As an owner of 3 SodaStream devices including this one it is a very nice feature imho. It also has a very heavy and premium looking aluminium outer casing.

All that said, it produces exactly the same drinks as the cheapest model!

      • yes agree, it also takes the guesswork out of how much gas to put into the bottle which was my biggest issue with the manual ones. That said if you never had the same issue as me, probably no reason to pay more for an electric one

Put proper name in title: "SodaStream Source Power"

As mentioned above $169 at David Jones without sign up

    • Indeed, I was about to mention that earlier but I thought I had said enough!

$99 for a functionally similar electric sodastream at BIG W https://www.bigw.com.au/product/sodastream-spirit-onetouch-s…

  • I upgraded from the manual one about a year ago after it became flakey.

New machine is way nicer and love the button press, far better and very happy
