  • I am in the same boat here. I ordered on 26 of November and my order has not been dispatched yet. I guess it will take them longer than the ETA. :(

  • Shipping estimate on the official Dell site has slipped to 1st Feb 2022, if the ebay store hasn't even generated the Dell order number yet we could be in for quite a wait.
    https://deals.dell.com/en-au/productdetail/c1r1

    • What do you mean by Dell order number? My eBay purchase history lists an order number in this format XX-XXXXX-XXXXX, but Dell doesn't seem to recognise that at all.

      • +1

In the ebay listing under shipping and payment they have this:

        Tracking
We usually place the Dell Order Number on eBay within 3-4 days of Order. We are unable to supply a Consignment Number until the item has been handed over to our Couriers. It is EXACTLY the same process as if you purchased on the Dell Website.

From memory on a previous order they mark it as posted and either message or email you the order number to track it through the Dell website.
Hopefully they have put the orders in there and just not updated us yet otherwise it is looking like February before they ship it.

  • My order says Arriving by Friday 7 Jan 2022

    • +1

Mine says the same thing. Not holding my breath though - isn't that an eBay calculated estimate?

  • Got text. Mine shipped via Startrack . ETA 29.12.21

    • Yep just got a text too, still no updates in Ebay/email etc. Looking at the dell portal it was loaded in their system on the 27th (I ordered on the 26th) so they just never bothered letting us know the order number like the usually do (probably because of the number of sales), which is good news :)

    • Same here. Fingers crossed Christmas and Omicron delays don't push that out too much.

    • Me too! 😀

  • I got mine today. Lot's of updates to do including the windows 11 update. I guess people's previous comments were right. It gets hot as an iron and the fun it's a bit noisy for my liking.

  • Received my XPS today (was in that Jan 4-10 delivery timeframe by Startrack).

  • Anyone had issues with their laptop?

    • Mine had a problem with the mouse. It was not responsive and ghost clicking ( moving on it's own and opening taps on it's own). After few days using it and after doing all the updates now it seems fine. Hopefully it doesn't do it again. When I was doing all the installations and updates the laptop gets quite hot. But I guess that's one of the down sides because of it's size.

      • I had backlight bleeding (visible in well lit room), wobbly base, lid not closing fully on one side, slightly loose keys, small coil whine. I'm guessing I'm the only one with a bad lemon.

I use linux and find the temps to be around 25-33 idle & light browsing (depending on the weather) with short spikes up to 41 when watching videos. I only heard the fans during installation and in the BIOS because some reason it clocks at 3.9/4.1 GHZ while in the BIOS.

        • To be honest for me it's a regretful buy. Specs seems far better than the actual performance of the computer. Battery life also very dissapponting. Next time I will go for a Lenovo I think.

        • Nah, I am in the same boat. Warped casing (lifting on one side). Noticeable bulging on casing just above keyboard too. Questionable quality control esp for an apparent higher-end model. Requesting replacement if possible.

          • @armageddeus: I've tried requesting for a replacement but dell wouldn't provide the same model back, extremely frustrating experience. I'm considering reporting to ACCC but doubt if it's worth the effort as I'm not sure whether it would do much.

  • Ghost clicking and not responding mousepad issue is back again. I will need to give them a call. What a disgrace with a brand new laptop.

    • good luck, they refused to replace the same model for me claiming out of stock. I feel like it was only on sale because dell is trying to get rid of its (trash) stock for the upcoming 12th gen.

      • Did they offer a refund since they can't replace?

        • They offered the UHD model, I requested for the FHD but they said there's no stock (at that time there WAS stock on ebay which was then changed to out of stock 2 days later hmmm). So if you really want the FHD you're out of luck. I don't really want to refund as I can't afford the xps at its full price but it's not like I can stick with a faulty device, sigh…

  • What kind of model did they offer you for replacement? You still have the option of a refund. However you can ask if they can offer you a laptop with same specs or even better specs .

    • They offered one with UHD but I find it a downgrade because of worse battery life, potential UI scaling issues, greater cpu/gpu load. 4k is overkill for 13.4 screen. I asked when the FHD would be in stock and they haven't replied. The only benefits would be 50 nits brighter screen, better colour accuracy (not important for me), higher dpi but all at the expense of battery life (very important for me) + game performance.

I urgently need the laptop for uni soon so I might have no choice but to get the UHD at this rate, I would cry if it takes over a month to arrive again… I wished there was a decent 2 in 1 with AMD cpu, great form factor, good quality control checks and <$1500 AUD.

I did more testing and found bad hinge (lid <75 degree falls and closes when moving laptop, not an issue with old dell laptop ), strange noises when audio is playing with both speakers and headphones (might be software related linux).

  • So they offered you an Xps 13 2 in 1 UHD with same specs ( i7 11gen, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd) ? If so that's fair. However from what I was told it may take up to 6 weeks for a replacement.

    • Might seem fair to you but it's a major downgrade for me because I value battery life and don't need higher resolution and better color accuracy. I'd have no choice but to spend more on a powerbank if it doesn't last long enough for my use case (and over the years). I'd be okay with UHD if it had amd though since power drain on intel is much higher. My other I issue is that I use linux so I don't know if 4k resolution will scale well (can only do 100%, 150%, 200%), so that's why I wanted a FHD so I don't have to worry all about these issues. Dell was a little deceptive because when they told me FHD was out of stock you could order a brand new one at ebay (dell), I asked them about it and they simply did not reply back (7 days) about it and changed it to out of stock on ebay 2 days after. https://www.ebay.com.au/rvh/392973216379?rt=nc
10 Jan, 2022 Quantity Revision. They could had just told me that they forgot to update the stock on ebay page but they didn't even address it so it's a little suspicious there.

But I honesty don't know how much worse the battery life is as I see mixed reports online. Some say it's 3 hours less than the FHD, others say it only lasts 4-6 hours but it really depends on what you're doing with it which worries me a little.

Anyways I did some battery testing on FHD which I'll compare to the UHD (tested on arch Linux with no battery optimization, windows may be better or worse):

      IDLE (+WIFI): 6 HOURS - 25% = 24 HOUR TOTAL | -2.08 Whr RATE

      IDLE (+WIFI&BLUETOOTH): 4 HOURS 25 MIN - 20% = 22 HOUR TOTAL | -2.26 Whr RATE

      IDLE (+WIFI&BLUETOOTH-MOUSE): 7 HOURS 22 MIN- 35% = 21 HOUR TOTAL| -2.38 Whr RATE

Bluetooth = extra -0.18 Whr = 2 Hours less for 24 hours period

Bluetooth + mouse connected = extra -0.30 Whr = 3 Hours less for 24 hours period

      4k Youtube Video Loop on Firefox (+WIFI): 3 HOURS- 34% = 8 HOUR 49 MIN TOTAL | -5.66 Whr RATE

      4k Youtube Video Loop on Firefox (+WIFI&BLUETOOTH): 1 HOURS 44 MIN- 20% = 8 HOUR 40 MIN TOTAL | -5.77 Whr RATE

      • While you can ask for repair/replacement, Dell is well within their rights to provide a refund.

        • I know but "When you have a major problem with a product, you have the right to ask for your choice of a replacement or refund" & "Replaced products must be of an identical type to the product originally supplied."
I'm just trying my luck for a replacement of the same FHD model, but I suppose I never had luck in the first place. I provided dell a google drive link filled with videos and photos of the issues so It's not like I'm trying to rip them off or anything which allowed me to request for whole unit replacement.

I'm sure backlight bleeding (visible in well lit room), wobbly base, lid not closing fully on one side, slightly loose keys, small coil whine (lid closes too easily when moved <80 degrees), cracking noises from audio makes it a major problem with the product.

      • If that option not suitable for you, ask for something else that suits you. If they can not provide that option then better go for a refund. I am still waiting for mine issue to be resolved. I had ghost clicking and not responding mousepad. After 3 hours on the phone. He done remotely a bunch of updates which weren't in my system to update. He also told me to disable touch screen to see if problem still exists. However these issue it's not constant . So it might come back in few days. I do have a video of when that happens. And I will make sure to make a video when that happens again. But I can understand how you feel. It's really frustrating.

        • If you have a spare usb lying around try running linux (ubuntu) live iso and see if the issue is present there to check if it's hardware or software issue.

I don't want to refund because I can't afford xps at full price so this is my only chance to own a dell xps. I need a laptop next month for uni so I can't wait for black Friday again for laptop deals so I guess I have no option but to go for the UHD and deal with its battery life and any potential issues.

Windows on dell is known for having so much issues, on linux the only issues I had were fingerprint and some strange cracking noises from the laptop whenever I play audio on both headphones and speaker

  • No. Still the same company. They should be able to offer you the same one since it shows on stock. Just call Dell and they will be able to help you.
