  • Glad I didnt get swept up in the hype for no return.
Gratz to those few that did and got something. +1 if you got something you actually needed and not just something to justify the efforts you went thru to just get anything :P.

went to DSE tuggerah…. nothing was marked down, so I just took a pile of stuff up to the counter (controller, plug and charge kits, battery packs, microsoft points)
the only thing I walked out with was a turtle beach headset.

bullshit that they didnt let us buy the microsoft points at the special price "because they are the newer cards"

    • yeah this whole thing with these msp card are in newer packaging so they are different is shit. just because they are different packaging they should be the same price

      • +1

They're not selling the old ones at a reduce price because they're having a sale on MSP. They're selling them at a reduced price to clear it from their inventory, it is a clearance sale after all. The reason they want to clear it from their inventory is so that there is less items to be tracked and paperwork and stock count is much much easier and should theoretically reduce cost.

I won't neg, because the OP posted what could have become an amazing deal. So many of the best deals on Ozbargain are really hit and miss - sometimes they work out beautifully, sometimes not at all.

The thing that sucks about this sale though is:

    1. A lot of staff took a large majority of the stock. When the sale has been effectively advertised (Facebook, twitter, and rep here), staff shouldn't be able to take so much stock before the sale has even begun.

    2. They started the online sale earlier than the rep stated.

    3. A lot of people going would have come with high expectations. When they got there and there wasn't much, I'm guessing many bought stuff they wouldn't normally have bought just because they had gone to the effort of getting there, lining up etc.

From the DSE facebook: "The sale will be repeated tonight at 6pm on eBay"

  • i got metroid m for $5
    la noir $5
    wolfenstein $5
    bloodstone 007 $15

  • WA stores open in an hour, will be totally different to East Coast there will be games a plenty and keyboards for everyone!

…..wait a second. It's still 8am over here so I am still asleep and must be dreaming.

  • site completely dead now

    http://dicksmith.com.au/dsau/home.jsp

  • Canberra Belconnen store was cleared of consoles and large majority of games by around 9:30am.

  • I don't understand the negatives, it's clearance items, everywhere says stocks will be limited. The staff might be jerks and all, but it's still a good sale. Positive sale, negative staff.

That said, went to Doncaster. The guy explained "Stock is limited, no pushing! We have 2 DSi's and 1 XBOX 360. Do not buy multiple copies of the same game"

There was quite a lot of good stuff. People walking with DSi's, G19 keyboards, most games were there (only single copies but still). I got the one thing I went for, which was Professor Layton and The Future… something, $5. <3 those games. Also got Guitar Hero Game+Control $15, DragonQuest IX for $5 and some crap PS3 games for $5 that I can get some trophies from, cause I'm a trophy whore.

    • +1

Youre lucky there was any g19s or DSi's. Most stores showed instock at 8am, yet sold out at the store.

    • I went to doncaster at 9.03am, there were jack all. Even the games were cleared out. Didn't see anyone holding a keyboard, except one person who was holding a G110 and several people holding empty xbox and ps3 boxes, which will be put back later.

      • Yeah, games that were any good were gone to the first 20 people in, in less than a minute. It was 'grab first, decide what to keep after grabbing it all'.

    8.30 - about 50 people behind me
9.00* - Doors open kids about to rush in employees stop them and tell them to put there bags on the floor LOL
Rushed in grabbed all the stuff i wanted (Went in the day before to scout)

    Result: http://i.imgur.com/PdeaU.jpg
    MW3 Console $299 RTP $499
Tony Hawk Ride $5 RTP $100(Best Bargain)
    Halo ODST $5 RTP $50

    Things to note:
    - Dont bother with the site (waste of time)
    - Dont bother going for the Standalone Xbox360 thats $100
    - All the xbox live cards they had were new so they werent on special :(
    - Games were rare that were actually on sale

    • I'm glad someone actually got something from this sale.

    • Organised chaos as mature adults and gaming kids try to keep a resemblance of decorum while running for a bargain.

      HAHAHA

  • The Cannon Hill staff were nice enough, store had some items but pretty much cleared out. I gave a neg as the hype built around this by Reps and Facebook doesn't match stock availability.

I couldn't tell what items were on sale though, when you read XBox Remote I assume it's the official one but apparently not.

    • Edit - I also started at 8:30am at the Queen St. I left within 3 minutes as the amount of geeks/nerds raging about was too much for me. I prefer my geeks placid.

Got a sidewinder x6 mafia 2 and an Xbox stand $15 all up

  • Robina, QLD had 1 PS3 fifa pack for $199 that some lucky person got. Heaps of ppl picked up the Xbox only to be told it was NOT $100. Some games from the leaked sale list were there but not all.Behind the counters was full of rejected stock from customers only to find out they were full priced!

    • Was there any G19 keyboards? I arrived at about 9:30am but couldn't find any in the keyboard section.

  • About 25-30 people milling about when Rhodes NSW opened. Only had two xBox consoles which were brought out from the store room and sold to the two people who were standing at the counter. No other consoles available. A mixture of game titles, but not a large selection. Not much in the way of accessories, but it isn't a big store.

DSE should have had a warehouse sale rather than this sale.

  • Went to the Baulkham Hills store this morning. There were 6 people waiting out the front when the doors opened. The staff had taken their fair share, but I guess that's understandable.

Managed to pick up a fair few okay games for $5 each. Ended up leaving with about 10 or so. Popped over to Winston Hills and they had absolutely no game sales whatsoever.

    • No console or any good stuff?

      • Nope.

        • There were quite a number of DSi when I was there on the weekend.

    • They had it all in the back since friday night, when i went in and asked about the World Of Warcraft headset i was told, "if we have one, i'm taking it for myself"

  • +1

I got a sales rep down at macarthur nsw to check on stock availabilty of the G19
Apparently there was a total of 3 for the whole of nsw
All obviously taken of course before the stores even opened
    No consoles of any sort
Ive visited 3 dse in the macarthur area and walked out with nothing.

That wasnt the problem, the problem was all sku's of stock was not represented on the products listed
You where better of walking straight to the counter and talking to them
Seeing a stampede of angry nerds was worth the trip

No offence to the op but i will be negging this as this was nothing more than pure free advertising for dse
Would look great for numbers when im sure some people would have walked out with something or sent other people to pick stuff up
I especially love the "sorry you cant have the cards cause they are the new ones"
I think in disgust there was like 1000's on the floor
Im not sure the staff are gonna enjoy cleaning that up, sorta like the price for getting dibs on all the stuff

    Well played dickie well played

  • +16

    LOL!

I just got back from Mac centre DSE, I was one of the few people to grab a ps3 360GB slim…walked up to the counter.

$419…forget it, it wasn't on sale.

On a side not, there was a guy there who set down a Nintendo DS and someone took it, he asked for it back, the guy said NO. A little bit of cussing happened and the guy tried to choke him to get his DS back…

    it was awesome…

He didn't get it back though.

    • +12

man you need to video that! that sort of stuff goes viral!

    • +7

Omg EPIC - nerd fight over a DS!

      hi mate APRIL FOOLS :D

      • lol

  • about 30 people out the front of brookside, brisbane. prior to opening they announced no consoles were left and there were also no headsets or game cards. just about 15 shit games from $5-$20

  • +3

I got an Xbox 4G Console with Rugby 2011, Tony Hawk Ride (360) and Professor Layton (DS). All up, $110.

Missed out on a DSi by one person…oh well. Actually have a console that supports in-built WiFi now.

    • which store did you do to?

  • I was at Westfield Helensvale Dick Smith, about 30 people waiting outside at 9am.

Total waste of time, I was in first 10 people, no Dsis, PSP, Xbox 320gb. From the look of all the people walking out after 2mins, no decent console games. There was one small bin of Xbox, PS3 games but mostly rubbish.

If they had any stock it was purchased by staff, when I asked out counter for above consoles they said "you know this is an online sale" but none of the consoles were listed online.

  • +5

Lol everyone's complaining about staff grabbing the best stuff. Here's an award for 'Dicks working for Dick!'

  • Sydney CBD store was manic…and crap
Nothing there. 4-5 consoles and none of the games really.

Only thing I got was UFC 2010 for $15 and that was it.

  • +2

can people with any of: G19 G9x or Sidewinder X6, post up receipts so that people can try their luck at pricematching at OW

  • +1

Crap sale. Me thinks the staff were to lazy to put the stuff on sale. The only things on sale were the things with the red stickers.

Only a few wii games, old xbox games, no mouses, NO keyboard, NO consoles. Complete waste of time..

  • +6

3rd in line at the counter and was told that all the consoles were gone.
When I asked about the discounted item I saw them take into the back, they said it was on 'reserve'.

That from that what you will but it leaves people with a sour taste.

I did notice some interesting behaviour though!
People ran when the doors opened.
They then stood around the glass case that held the handheld consoles, just staring at it.
Not sure what they hoped to achieve by this.

    • +3

Hahah, thats pretty funny. "If we stand here long enough, we are bound to get them!"

I was lucky enough to get the demo G19 keyboard at the top ryde store for $40. Apart from that absolute chaos. Went to check out the macquarie centre store and there was nothing worthwhile left.

    • can you put up the receipt please, im sure that it wont say demo on there hopefully some of us can price match elsewhere

      • +3
        • awesome..thanks for that..hopefully i dont have someone that says no because its in NSW and im in VIC

        • sheve, let us know if it works

  • +1

Small store in Marrickville Metro Shopping Centre (Syd).

Only had a small table with nothing of interest on it. Lots of older Wii titles. Not much for any other console. Lots of Fracture & Brutal Legends.

    Disappointing.

  • I asked several DSE staffs and most of them said that this already been reserved by their own staff since friday..:(

  • Got nothing from Plenty Valley… waste of time…

  • Just got back from The sale. Tried to get the msp for $5 but they didn't honour it, neither did RDR. I did get Tony Hawk Ride for $5 for the 360 and 4 other 360 games and a ps3 one. In addition of a wii fit starter kit for $1, I paid just $28 in total

    • RDR apparently on sale for $5 on the 11th. Thats what the staff member told me

      • Thats what the staff told me too!

  • +4

yep this sums it up pretty well http://cheezburger.com/6058370560

  • Interesting that if you look for store stock of the DSi it will still list as "in stock" or "low stock" for the same stores as yesterday.

Methinks staff have it on reserve for their lunch break purchase or at closing time.

    • not sure if real rep or trolling…

    • from memory their stock levels onlines for physical stores is not live, is only updated once a day or something.

  • got an xbox for $100, 4gb rugby pack. saw some guy with a as many microsoft points card as he could carry, thats going over the top i think

    • +3

lol imagine his suprise when they say new cards are not on sale.

  • Went to DS in DFO Canberra 20+ people before opening, third in line at the counter.

    1st person = 2 Pink Dsi, 1 White Dsi and 2 Xbox 360 bundle.
    2nd person = Xbox 360 bundle
3rd person (me) = nothing, had me for a PSP 3000 with God of war, but not on list :(. walked out empty handed after visting 2 stores.
    Just missed out so, disappointed.

    • That sucks.

The Tuggeranong store sold 5 DSis but one per person. So that was good on their behalf.

    • What on earth made the Ist person leave the last xbox 360. Could have taken that too u know.

    • -7

GUYS YOU DONT NEG ME BECAUSE IM A BETTER BARGAIN HUNTER?

    • so how is buying x2 of everything different from what they did?

      • ohhh… Now I get it. Maybe Pandabargain has 3 computers without computers mouses..? And he/she has been using the ALT key and the arrow keys to navigate since owning the computers? :)

    • +1

I don't get why your post was negged..?

  • +5

    Managed to get:
    -Xbox 360 4gb Rugby World Cup $100
    -Logitech G19 $40
    -DSi $20

Victor Harbour store, called all around Melbourne where I live, nothing. Called the store next to the inlaws in SA, they had stock, got them to queue up (2 people in the queue). Done! Not bad DSE.

    • receipt please mate for the G19

      • One above.

  • A few of my mates are getting told that the MW3 Console is $499 when its really $299

    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/YG5598/xbox-360-limited-edit…

Still stock in a few place cause people are chasing the $100 Standalone Xbox (Which doesn't exist anywhere)

  • went to Chullora store at 9.05.. found a few people hunting cheap things… they didnt have a sale table i saw most of it full price but there wasnt much stock left anwyay… decided to leave and head to bankstown store… they had a sales table… i grab a few ps3/pc titles… i went to d games area and grab lots of games, they had full price marked on them but once at the counter most of them scan really really cheap… i ended up spending like 100 bucks…grab heaps of games specially pc games for like a dollar each… try to look for accesories but no luck.. console nothing left…

  • +1

    nothing good on their website

  • Sale was pretty crappy most of the things on the "list" weren't on sale and employees kinda hid most of the console stocks

  • I got:

    shift 2 unleashed $5
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Complete edition $5
    Homefront $5
    Red Faction Guerilla $5
    DS cooking guide game $2
    Wii Zapper $10

Glad I walked out with something… My vote of -neg is for all the other ozbargainers who walked out with nothing. (that and I'd like to see this become the newest highest negged deal on ozbargain.)

    • +2

In time it will happen, though I'm pretty sure your neg will be made a donkey vote though

  • Picked up LA Noire for PS3 for $5 and 12 months XBox Live membership for $15 (yes, old style… new ones were scanning at full price). Disappointed by the number of things that scanned at full price still, but I'm happy with the bargains I got.

  • +8

It's Sales like these which show us what greasy greedy prick bastards some of us are.

    • +10

I just find it disgusting when you hear about people buying 10 game cards or three keyboards at a time…sorry you are just being a total broden.

    • +4

U mean those working at DSE? Buying all the bargains/ putting them aside right in front of u behind closed doors, taunting u with the goods with a big sign that says "Customer Reserved" and telling the poor dude who queued up patiently outside DSE hoping to snap a bargain, "Better luck next time buddy".

Next u will see an influx of ebay consoles on sale that will state "unwanted gift", and when asked if seller has got a receipt for warranty, sure they do. You bid and bid till u arrived at a 10-15% discount off RRP thinking u just got a bargain of the month. Goods arrived and lo 'n behold, the receipt showed u paid almost close to double what the seller has paid for. You can't leave a neg, yet u can do much ' cept take a real hard pinch/ jab at yourself for being the silly one here!

      Tsk tsk

      • +1

Negative feedback? ESP if the start price was more than they paid

      • lmao, you've thought waaaaay too much about that ;D
