FREE 23GB of Storage on Dropbox for 2 Years [Android]

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Yes, you read it right.

This time, we work around the 23GB of extra space for 2 years, that originally applies to Sense 4.0 phones.

How-to

Step 1: If you already have Dropbox installed on your Android device, you must Clear data, Force close and finally uninstall it from Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Dropbox.

Step 2: Download and install the Dropbox+23GB APK. Be sure to enable Unknown sources under Settings > Applications or Settings > Security (on ICS) before installing the APK!

Step 3: Launch the app as usual and log in.

Step 4: Wait for the confirmation email.

• If you haven't received the confirmation mail after 30 minutes - 3 days, try uninstalling the app, the installing it again and login. BUT, it doesn't work for everyone. Haven't figured out why yet.
• After getting the extra space, you can go back to official dropbox builds (uninstall mine first).

My phone is a SGS2 on ICS
I tried this on the 27th of March, and got my email today in the morning. It will take time so if you want to test it out before voting, fine with me.
If you don't have a dropbox account, feel free to use my referral
http://db.tt/AeB5JF3, I get an extra 500MB and so do you. Win-Win

Finally if you feel this isn't really a deal, Report it to the mods in the options below.

Confirmed working on my SGS, did not need to wait for confirmation email.

Edit: Just got the email -

    Hi xxxxxx,

Congrats on becoming a Dropbox Guru! We've awarded you 23 GB of bonus space for the next 24 months! You now have 32.56 GB on Dropbox. To get even more space, check out our upgrade options.

Thanks again for supercharging your HTC device with Dropbox!

    Enjoy,

    • Nice, more people like me. You used xda as well, right?

      • I browse xda but I wasn't aware of this hax. I saw your post 30 seconds in and got all of it done in 4 mins. :P

  • is it safe to download other than play store?

  • Make sure to change your password before installing it.
It didn't work for me even though I got the email.

  • Nice find. Have almost 30GB of space now.

  • thanks so much!

  • Got notification of the increased disk space immediately on my Windows dropbox icon

  • you are a legend….
I had 3.25 gb. when I installed your drobox and for some reason it was showing i have 5 GB.
Just after a minute i checked, it is now showing 28.75.

    AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • thanks, confirming it work for htc legend cm7.1

  • Awesome, thanks! Received the 23GB immediately using a HP TouchPad running CM9/ICS. :)

  • Works for me on my android device. Took 1 minute after logging in on my device, for windows dropbox to notify me of upgrade and 2 minutes for email to be received. Mine is a galaxy tab 7 running gingerbread if anyone wants to know.

+1 for timing of deal. Keeps the daytime freaks from stealing the bargain in 10 minutes. :P

  • Wished i had an android…

http://www.computingunleashed.com/get-23gb-free-space-in-dro… may be slightly more complicated but it should work. Trying now :)

      • +1

Was about to suggest using an Android emulator myself. :)

If you have any problems with the emulator included with the official Android SDK, you could also try a third-party emulator like BlueStacks or YouWave.

  • Doesn't work for me on my SGSII (Vodafone)…I received the confirmation email but nothing on drop box yet…

Edit: Ops, it seems like I have to click on the Getting Started Guide link in the email to claim the extra space… got my share of the goodies!

  • Didn't work for me, in account info still said i have 2gb only. I didnt have drop box installed on my XOOM so just installed the 23gb apk, received email confirmation, uninstalled the 23gb apk one, changed pw, reinstalled the official one from drop box site. Hm… any one know what went wrong?…….

    • As above ^^, Did you click the Getting Started Guide link on the email?

    • +1

Have you completed the 'Get Started' offer on Dropbox? https://www.dropbox.com/gs

I just upgraded my parents' accounts, and I needed to complete 5 of the 7 steps on the 'Get Started' page before 23GB was added to their accounts.

      • Same, works for me now!

  • AWESOME! worked almost instantly on htc desire hd. Thanks for the post :)!

  • Working on my Motorola Atrix running CM9. Nice!

  • I got my extra space right away. Now i have 29GB. Btw make sure you clear data before installing this. Thats the only reason you might not be getting it. Anyway Samsung Galaxy Note.

    Extra space added right away
Confirmation email arrived in 2 minutes after installation!

    Awesome thanks OP!

    • be good if you could upvote so more people see it ;)

      • I already did on my phone and wrote the comment on my ipad. For some reason + vote didnt show up…
Anyway im gonna put this up on my facebook to share!
        Cheers!

      • Spawnpoint - I know you are not the vendor, but asking for votes isnt the way we do things here.

        • all I'm saying is if you like the deal, upvote. I would have said the same thing in any other post. If a person goes
          * Thanks, bought 2* and doesn't upvote it, I feel that they should. I've posted the same on many other deals as well, not just mine

        • I totally agree with the need to people to vote to show thanks and encouraging them to do so, to encourage people to post, so it's is the absolutely right thing to do.

But when its your post you can see how perceptions come into play.

Similarly its one of the reasons we discourage no votes on something that someone personally dislikes vs there's something wrong with the deal. All we then end up is with deals that these people like and the rest just move on away. As in phone OS deals. sigh

        • I see where you're going and I don't want to come off as an Upvote-whore. I'll keep it in mind while commenting on my own posts :D

  • any work arounds for an iPhone user? ;)

    • buy an android? lol jk

Only one I can think of is an android emulator, or borrow a friends android phone..

  • cheers, worked on my motorola defy running 2.2.2 :D Awesome find

  • You should probably mention that this is a exploit/hack. I'm not really a big fan of loading hacked apk's on my phone. You can never be sure what people have done to them. Also the thread on the XDA forum was denounced and closed due to the nature of exploiting a promotion done in good faith by Dropbox.

    • which is why I mentioned the source. IF anyone has ethical issues, they can read the two linked articles above

    • What's wrong with it? You get an e-mail from Dropbox that asks you to complete 5 out of 7 steps to qualify for free 23 Gb. Looks legit to me.

  • Worked fine. Just had to complete 5 out of 7 steps.

  • worked for me, awesome!

yeah also had to complete 5 out of 7 steps

  • Worked within 2 mins of doing it. Thanks! Gonna miss the extra space when the 2 years are up :p

  • This is pretty sweet, although should be moved to forums as its NOT a bargain but rather a hack.

Also I hate to be 'that' person but does this not constitute as stealing because the storage provided to HTC was part of some sort of deal that was paid for likely by HTC.the only way we are able to access this is through a purpose built hack. Thus we are also depriving drop box of paying customers and increasing maintenance costs through the extra traffic.I know this will get negged but just something to thing about and if I'm mistaken please correct me. You would not post a torrent here as a bargain would you?

Is this online or instore only?

    • +1

Lol i don't know whether you're joking, or confusing me.

      • +1

At 3-4 Am I'm surprised either of us made any sense.

  • Hacks belong in the forums - moved

  • APK link is dead. I'd doubt it'd be long before this is fixed on Dropbox's side. Might anyone be kink enough to upload the file (to somewhere other than Dropbox)?

  • Didn't work for me via HTC WildFire S. No email after ~6hrs
Signed up via Ops link (Only mentioned 250GB for referrals btw). I only got 2GB in total.

    • Still nothing after uninstall/reinstall & sign in via phone. Oh well :-(

      • took me a few days..you did clear your app cache and uninstall the first one before installing mine.

        • Didn't have it before (standard apk) so just installed the one from your link. Cleared cache, retried logging in. Uninstalled, reinstalled today and logged in. Still same 2Gb quota and no email.

  • the APK link is dead?

    • Too many downloads perhaps. Use this link:

      http://www.mediafire.com/?hjsz166jxklg6xs

Also, what sort of permissions does this app require on your phone? I feel a little paranoid installing random APK's on my phone.

      • Dunno really, I installed on my phone and removed after signing in. But then again I got my email yesterday

      • awesome, thanks for the mirror. got my email in 2 minutes after logging in :)

  • Thanks spwanpoint. Worked good on my bluestacks :-). Got email in a min with no space increase, but when i click the email link (Getting Started) and logging in, Got increased immediate and another email came with that 2 year info.

Good to post here. This should be considered deal as we saw dropbox tips posted before. This is the best out of all.

  • awesome!! get mine immediately!

  • Booyah! From 10Gb to 33Gb in 60 seconds
    Thank you OP
If you were here I would buy you a beer :)

  • Thanks OP, you're a boss. Fact.

  • Thanks. Managed to get this works on the second try.
I didn't "force close" the apps on the first try.

BTW… I got two emails. One is for 23GB extra(2 years), the other is for 3GB extra (1 year).

I wonder what will happen once this promo expires, do they delete the 23GB data? or ask us to upgrade with $$$?

    • from what i've read, you'll still have all your data on there, but it will stop syncing until you get back under your limit.

  • Awesome, worked for me. Email arrived within minutes.

  • You're a star - cheers for this - now got 28GB.

Do I need to re-install the market Dropbox app to get the updates now that the 23GB has been activated?

  • Didnt work the 1st time when I tried on Saturday.

Uninstalled and installed again today. Got the email within 15 minutes… and now I have +23GB

    Thanks OP

  • Worked GREAT. IF you have already done the "Getting Started" (GURU) 250MB thing on the GS page, then the 23 GB comes instantaneously. I am now sitting comfortably on 33 GB.

    Cheering! True ozbargain spirit.

  • +8

I just had my quota reduced and it taken away.
It had worked fine for myself and my wife. Both decreased 15 minutes ago.

    • +1

Same here, just checked and its gone

    • Sorry guys, looks like Dropbox is revoking the extra storage. Got mine revoked as well.

DAMN IT, lost some of my information because I had about 20 GIGS stored.

      /RAGE

    • Glad we weren't disciplined.
on the upside - referrals were doubled, and now capped at 32 gig. Hopefully that means 1 gig per referral for students.

  • What phones are you using? I have a HTC and it hasn't been revoked yet. Could it be filtering out all the non HTC accounts?

    • +1

that makes sense. I have a samsung.

      • +3

haha, makes SENSE - intentional pun, right?

        • +4

damnit you stole the thunder! It was my dream to inspire others on the incredible fun of punning. I wanted to be a Legend

        • what you did.
          it's there.
          and i see it.

  • For those of you who utilized the HTC promotion apk file that was put out on XDA Developers site, you’re in for a nasty shock. Dropbox posted on their forums that they intend to remove all ill gotten space from users who have used this early release apk (and they can track this). There has also been mention that users who are starting to lose this bonus 23GB are losing ALL of their bonus space from referrals as well, not just the HTC promotion space.

    Source

Ouch, kinda glad it didn't work for me now!

  • +1

Just checked. Lost my 23GIG! :(

  • dropkick box

  • Also lost my 23 GB :(

  • haha

  • Out of curiosity, why do people need 32GB DB storage? Do people store movies on DB or something?

    • +1

For online backup, obviously. The bulk of my Dropbox folder is mostly

      Application backups and profiles (50%)
      University / Thesis (10%)
And other very important documents that I've digitized because I hate storing paper copies (5%)
and the rest is tinkertoys like Android files/phone images/photos and music.

It's basically replaced my need for USB drives — downloads are fast too.

      • What if a Dropbox staff steals your thesis and publishes it before you?

I don't trust Dropbox or any other cloud service… the storage space is only good for junk/consumables.

    • Design work. Photography

  • Works on my HTC Evo 3D.

  • Just had my 23GB revoked too :(
