I don't see how that makes this not a deal. The retail box also does not include a cooler and $50 less is something

      • +1

5800x don’t come with stock coolers anyway

    • +10

Not sure I'd want to buy from a store that does it's chatting via… Facebook Messenger.

      • No issue with privacy concern. HT operate like a corner store now?

      • +5

I've purchased plenty from them. Never had a need to contact them further. I'd recommend this seller.

    • Rosman computers are quite infamous for not shipping items marked as 'Call Us' in your local area for months.
I'd hardly place this as a reliable source for price.

  • +2

    Can this handle Excel ?

    • +14

Underrated comment, if you've ever tried to run pivots and complex calculations on hundreds of thousands of rows then yes more cores help.

    • +8

      It excels at it

      • excellent

  • +14

If you are not in a rush I'd wait to see what the Feb refresh is like and which 5000 series processors get v-cache - might result in this model dropping to $400 to help clear stock perhaps?

    • +1

Will the refresh series work on current motherboards? I have a good board and wouldn't mind upgrading.

      • +6

They should do, they're just improved versions of the 5000 series, not a whole new series.

        • What jeppetto said…
I am also waiting for the 6000 series myself which, if all the rumors are correct, it will still fit an AM4 socket.
Otherwise, 5000 series will get a discount.
          Win-win in my view.

          • @Kafrilas: I thought the 6000 series was going to be AM5 with DDR5? However 5000 series refresh with v-cache appears like it will still be supported in AM4 motherboards.

            • @4foxache: Could be as you say.
Redgamingtech reefers to it as 6000 series but, truth be told, nobody knows yet.
It could also be called 5xxxXT.

I guess we will find out at CES, on the 4th of January, when AMD presents their keynote.

  • Would it be worth making the jump from a 5600X to 5800X?

    • +36

      no

      • +1

I suppose it depends on what you do with your PC and how keen you are to fluff around selling your 5600X.

        But yeah in general, no.

    • +6

only if your pc is for other productivity tasks e.g. photo/video editing. if only for gaming, then not worth the cost and the jump. 5800X also runs much hotter and needs more aggressive cooling.

      • +2

I have the 5800X, and YES this chip runs really HOT, even though I have a pretty good watercooling setup.

        • Yes, I also undervolted via PBO to bring the max temp to 77 while running Cinebench.

        • You should see the 5950x, not even the Arctic LF2 420 can tame it

    • +2

If you're gaming? Definitely not. For productivity? still probably a no as you're only getting 2 extra cores. You'd rather be looking at 5900X to get a sizable bump in performance.

      • I reckon 5800X is better, even though it has less core, with CPU, save your money Not getting the 5900X and use that money to upgrade in a couple of years. Technology get out of date too fast.

    • -4

If you're gonna upgrade much better to get Intel 12th gen and sell your motherboard with the cpu.

  • thanks I got one

  • +8

Need a high end cooler to cool that furnace.
Dud processor of the 5xxx range…..If gaming 5600x is 75watt…..if productivity skip and go 5900x/5950x

    • There are plenty of sub $100 coolers that shouldn't have an issue cooling it.

    • noctua nh d15 should cool this good if you have a compatible case

      • +2

Well, the NH-D15 can handle almost anything (@ stock) but intel's i9s, so that isn't saying much.

But yes, it does require a decently more beefy cooler than the 5600x, but the 5600x doesn't really require much so 🤷

      • My experience is it barely reaches 75c when doing Prime95 runs with nhd15.

    • +8

This is such bad advice. 125w is barely a furnace. your average $30 cooler cools this cpu easily.

      • +1

But it's 125W crammed into one CCX, which is what makes this chip run so much hotter. The 5900X and 5950X have their power distributed over two CCXes and the 5600X only has 65W in its one CCX.

        • Yes but most basic tower coolers are rated well past 125w tdp. It’s a non event mate.

I’ve had a 5800x for a year and it barely sniffs past 50c under load.

          • @Skramit: Unless you're running the thing at like 1V I don't see how you could possibly get a 5800X to stay under 70c at full load. What cooler are you running?

  • +5

recently got a 5800x from the black friday afterpay deal upgrading from a 2600x

yes it runs hot, but with a little 5 minute tweak of the PBO settings in the bios you can get temperatures down by around 10 degrees for a loss of 2-3% performance

still got a new aio though (evga clc 240) because they were on sale at bpc and the main criticism of that aio are the fans that come with it which are easily replaceable (i got some arctic p12's)

    • Coming from a 3700x it's probably worth the upgrade right ? Gaming/Adobe suite work..

Question for heat especially in summer. Can I please ask for better ways to manage cpu/GPU temps? MB520 case and CooLER master ML240 AIO, 62cfm max.

Aside from blasting the AC of course.
      Thanks brains trust

  • The core counts 6, or 16 or 20.

If 20 hmmm nice, really nice, if not not nice

  • Harris Technology

do you got promo ryzen 9 5950x ?

  • Still waiting for the 5600X :(

My 3500X is dying in Valorant at 1080p.

  • Anyone know if the warranty is the same for this OEM version?

  • Can’t seem to get the $499 anymore. Any idea why? Expired?

    • +1

Still showing $499 for me, even though the T&C says it expired at 11:59PM on the 10th

      • Thanks, I tried again now and manage to use the voucher SPENDSVE & go through with $499. Tried yesterday 12:30am and it keeps rejecting my voucher.

  • -1

Same price as the 12600K, which has new architecture, solid upgrade paths, and outperforms it…

    • +1

      Motherboard price.

    • Compatibility issues with Alder Lake in certain apps & games.

  • Anyone got their goods? I received mine after waiting for 11 days and they sent me clothes instead of a Ryzen 5800x LMAO!

    • +1

Yep, got mine in 1 day with Ebay plus
