Coles Keilor Downs Vic - Standard Def Set Top Box $10, High Def STB $20

180

Browsing the aisles of my local Coles when I found an end full of set top boxes at very cheap prices. Standard Definition $10 (MXT Brand) and High Definition $20 (Onix Brand)

Had heaps of both.

The Onix HD STB was very small, it had HDMI out as well as PVR function and multi media playback via usb 2.0. Didn't really examine the $10 too hard, as it seemed to be a bog standard stb.

I know all tellies these days have built in digital tv, but i'm sure there are plenty of Rank-Arena's out there that could be salvaged a bit longer.

New Coles opened last week in Carindale Brissie & these were on the shelves! Its not as if it has been sitting on the shelves unsold for ages, but old stock put in new store.
Decided not to post about SD boxes - who wants them?

    • Maybe if you still use a CRT TV, in which case it doesn't matter if you use use SD or HD.

Yes, CRT TV does not mind if SD or HD - works with both. That would be the main use for a STBox. But why get a SD for $10 against $20 HD - given some channels are only on HD?
But selling a bargain basement old tech product in a brand new Coles, in a $300M extension to a Westfield - reportedly built here because of all the money sloshing around - well seems like poor marketing.

You gotta get the HD for Gem, 7mate, One and Abc news, def worth the little bit extra

    • Exactly had a few old SD STB and couldn't even give them away. Ended up donating them to the local charity store and they can add them to there big pile of SD STBs. If they are lucky to sell them.
