Hello, I’ve been asked many times to repeat this deal and I have, its through Groupon and as I will be fulfilling the purchases I will make sure to send the course out as quickly as I can.

For the record last time I did this many people were hesitant to do the deal as the fulfilment with Groupon is sometimes slow, I have asked specifically to get the orders from Groupon every few days so I can fulfil the orders as quickly as possible, on the deal it says up to 2 weeks but I fulfilled 99% of all orders within a week, so don't worry, you will receive your course promptly.

And this lovely comment from one of the Ozbargain members
FWIW - I purchased this for my wife for Xmas as she has had a DLSR for a number of years but has never been truly happy with the photos that she has taken. On our camping trip last week my wife was going crazy trying all of the techniques that are explained on the DVD and I am just reviewing the photos now. Some big improvements already just doing the basics.
Why I like the DVD:

it covers most topics needed by us amateurs (ordinary folk) and provides some detail without getting caught up in all of the technical jargon
it is Australian and does not get caught up in being too serious and boring
whilst the camera that is used is a Canon the rules and guides are applicable to most brands of DSLR
it is a very nice introduction for those people who might wish to go on to formal, advanced face-to-face photography courses i.e. TAFE or private courses because it allows you to have the basics under your belt and not feel like a total newbie
product delivered on time, as promised and packaging, etc of good quality
it has an easy to use index so that you can skip to parts that you want to review and practice
There are more reasons but I suspect that you get the idea. I like it and recommend it. I have already passed on the details of the product to friends and family and have strongly recommended that they buy it.

I bought this last time and have found it to be useful and worthwhile.

(Surprised that you are are using the Groupon channel here on OzB - or do you need a minimum number of purchases to get them to take you on or to continue to include you? I would have thought your margin would be better by directing buyers to your website again and thereby not including the middle person?)

For sure, I hear you there, I did this deal last time with them and it went well, they really backed up everything including giving me the orders every couple of days so I could fulfil them quickly(they don't usually do that), this was my main concern as I had bought a phone on a deals site and received it 6 weeks later and I wasn't a happy camper..Groupon brings new people to the deal, I don't need a minimum amount of purchases but I get a fair few emails from people who missed the deal and asked to be notified next time I put it up so here's the notification, cheers

  • Just grabbed one. Thanks!

    • No worries, will send as soon as i get your details from Groupon, cheers.

  • Got one if this last time around and trust me guys.. its a blessing!!… All I need now is my DSLR (did use some of the techniques on my friends' Canon, and really helpful. Thanks!!) :)

    • Cheers for the compliments, glad it helped..

  • Just bought two! Great price. I've heard only good things about this. I'll give the second to a friend for his birthday.

    • Nice one, they are all packed and ready to go, as soon as I get your details I will post them straight away..

  • I keep hearing raves about this DVD? Is it really good? I bought a DSLR recently and would love to improve my very basic skills and get my partner learn how to use a DSLR.

I run a 100% money back guarantee, so if it is no good then you are covered but quite a lot of people, thousands actually have benefited already from the DVD, cheers

      • Just bought one!

  • Just bought this one too.

  • A little offtopic, but can anyone recommend a good SLR/DSLR for a novice?? Something I've been wanting to get into for years and with the purchase of this DVD that so many love, now migh be the ideal time to make it a reality.

Well there were some really good deals on the Canon 550d and if you add this with a nifty 50, a 50mm 1.8 its a good cheap combo that can shoot awesome video

      • Thanks heaps, will look into this camera.

Bought a Nikon D5100 as my first DSLR…super happy with the camera thus far.

You have asked for a SLR/DSLR recommendation - I would suggest completely forgetting about the traditional SLR for a beginner and going down the DSLR road. The Canon 1100D with a 18-55mm lens comes up on Ozbargain pretty regularly under $400 from a local store. It is pretty much the most basic DSLR you can get but if you hang onto it for 6-12 months it will give you an excellent indication if where to go next:
      1. You hate the bulkiness/complexity of the thing and just want to go back to a compact
      2. You are happy with the 1100D and it completely satisfies all your photography needs.
      3. You discover you are a photography FIEND and upgrade to a bigger and better camera.

Also, if you wanted a more gradual (albeit more expensive) step into the DSLR world you could always get a Sony NEX-5N. I have had the NEX-5 (the previous iteration) for over a year and absolutely LOVE it. It is a mirrorless digital camera (so not technically a DSLR) and fits neatly between a compact and DSLR (like the 1100D) in terms of both physical size and ease of use. As the NEX-7 (the latest and greatest Sony camera) is finally being shipped to customers after months of delays, you should find that the price of of the NEX-5N drops a bit. A NEX camera can also be where you go from if you find yourself slotting into category 1 above. I should also say there are other mirrorless cameras out there, but I personally believe the NEX series to be the best.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. That NEX-5N does look quite slick. Might hold off purchasing for a few weeks and see if it comes down on price like you suggested it may with the release of the newer model. Again, thanks to all for the feedback :)

        • A DLSR gives good visual feedback of depth of field, and to me DOF is the key to great photos. Not sure if the NEX5N allows you to preview DOF.

If you're doing semi-serious photography buy a camera/lens with the largest aperture you can get (smallest number), 2.8 or better if possible.

  • Just bought one! Have a question as this is my 1st time buying from Groupon. After clicking on Buy!, I signup an account and paid via PayPal. Didn't ask about my address during signup or checkout??? Will I still get it?

    • Shoot me through an email to [email protected] with your details and I will make sure you do if there are any dramas

  • bought it last time. amazing infomation.

  • I just bought it, do I need to do anything after receiving my redemption code from Groupon?

    • +2

Yes, you need to start dreaming of big juicy lenses and how you can explain to your kids that they won't having dinner tonight as you've spunked all your money on a new strobist set up…

Only joking, nope there's nothing to do, Groupon will supply me with your details, cheers

  • Got this last time. Wish I had it when I was starting out. Good for beginners (only).

    • -1

Well its aimed at beginners to intermediate but to be honest if you pick up one good tip its well worth the $15 in my book..

  • I bought one, Thanks you. According to your website, I don't need to redeem.

"If you have recently bought a course through Groupon there is no need to redeem your coupon, Groupon will supply me with a list of the names of the people who bought the course and I will post the course out as quickly as possible."
