Waiters Fast to Remove Plates and Drinks from Table

Given it is end of year and many people are probably having end of year lunches at work.

Went to a restaurant, and the waiter was so fast to remove my drink.

Hand comes out of no where and takes the bottle, and then they ask 'Are you done? Can I get you another?'.

Why? If I want another, I will ask. Or at least suggest before you take it away.

There is no reason to be so fast to take stuff. I know some people might appreciate it, but I do not. There was still room on the table. It could have stayed where it was. It wasn't doing any harm. If we need the space, I will specially move it to the side and ask for it to be taken. I believe it may have still some amount in it. Maybe not look like much to the eye, but still leave it until I tell you to take it.

It was not particularly busy. There was no rush to turn tables. There were plenty of other tables available.

Open message to all waiters.

Taking stuff without asking is not appreciated.

Sorry OP but you are complaining because a waiter is doing their job. In fact I wish waiters always did this because nothing frustrates me more when I'm at a function, my glass is clearly empty and no one tops me up. I shouldn't be calling waiters to top me up, it's called being attentive, go read 5 star reviews, you will see the word "attentive" used a lot

If it was unlimited top up and at no extra cost, great, I have no problem with a waiter taking a glass that maybe I have not finished.

  • This is some first-world problems right here…., especially over free water.

    • Next forum post will be free water wasn’t filtered

      • Then next forum post will be "free filtered water didn't come with a garnish of lime or lemon"

I would encourage people to look up random12's posting history before responding.

    There's certainly a trend.

They should hire staff from chemist warehouse. When I was waiting for their assistance, I have 3 kids already

  • Imagine being so angry that a waiter offering you a drink sends you into a prolonged rage that only a post on Ozbargain could possibly bring solace.

  • Try one of the 2 Toilet Restaurants in Taiwan.

You clearly don't have better things to focus your energy toward

  • Why so many vote downs? They surely can ask before they take it.

  • Of all the things to whine about, efficient waiters ain't one of them. And I hope no waiter listens to your whine. Cleaning away used plates and glasses etc efficiently, quickly and without needing to be asked is very much appreciated by normal people.

LOL I thought this was a troll thread but then I read OP's comments in previous posts and realised I was quite mistaken.

Like your waiter, I too, would have cleared your table and the glass from your pompous hand to get you to fck off quicker.

  • I've had one experience where one employee at a McD actually took our rubbish away.

Now they are dirty restaurants (don't know if this due to COVID) I won't step into a McD yet alone eat their food.

For the price of a meal, it's the same price in a restaurant, plus they actually take your dirty plates and glasses away when your finished with them. ;)

I hope you never go into a 5 star Michelin restaurant.

Nothing better than getting an $xxxxx drink and then having a waiter swipe it before you finish without even letting yo know.

      • +2

You said in your original post that they asked you if you if you were done with the drink and you also weren't sure if there was anything left in the drink or not. Now that has suddenly turned into "having a waiter swipe it before you finish without even letting you know".

You are absolutely delusional. I am embarrassed for you and anyone who knows you. Get a life.

The story changes every day πŸ˜‚ next minute OP will say the waiter took a full bottle off the table lol

          • +3

@spackbace: Next the waiter will have brought the full bottle, let it faintly brush the table, and then remove it ALL MENANCING AND IMMEDIATELY without even letting the poor bloke finish it!

    • I guess you haven't been to one before…. 3 stars is the maximum Michelin star rating, not 5…

    Karens in the wild.

  • "There is no reason to be so fast to take stuff. I know some people might appreciate it, but I do not."

OP you said it yourself. Some people appreciate efficient service.
The reason to "be so fast to take stuff" is that "some people might appreciate it". The whole world doesn't revolve around you.

  • It really seems like the complaints on OzB are increasingly losing touch with reality.

  • OP, next time just say that you have not finished and asked for the bottle to be put back. Problem solved. Life is too short to be bothered by such little things.

  • How do I filter this type of nonsense from my feed?

  • Restaurants are scraping the bottom of the barrel now trying to make every buck given they lost customers during lockdowns.
This is translated to how many minutes you're consuming a space there whilst it's looking busy outside.

TLDR: It's a sign to hurry up and get off the table and vacate it to the next person…are crappy and low-life tactic by the owner.

    Dont return

Doesn't seem to be the case here at all -

It was not particularly busy. There was no rush to turn tables. There were plenty of other tables available.

Its a sign the OP is a bit of a douche. The waiters are doing their job and doing it efficiently, he himself said there was no rush to leave. Customers like him are hated by everyone, entitled to the point of ridiculous where no matter what you do they will find a reason to complain no matter how petty.

  • Is this what society has come to? You have the school tragedy in Tassie and then you have some clown going on about waiter service. May I suggest a spoonful of cement and harden the f*@& up.

  • +1

This either has to be a troll or OP is projecting some insecurity about him or herself onto the waiter.

Open message to OP, from hospitality staff…

Know that we hospitality staff, discuss you Karen's & Kurts at great length BOH, the most prominent sentiment being we'd wish you'd (profanity) off back to whatever burger joint you usually frequent & free up space for punters that aren't goatse style gaping dickholes.

    Know that.

Know that when the apparently over enthusiastic server left your table, they were straight to the back of house, wishing a pox on you, your children & your childrens' children.

    For six months.

    Eat a bag of πŸ†

      πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

      • And you, my friend are far too familiar with the interwebs.

  • Waiters vary.

  • +1

Where did you go so I can dine there? Sounds like great customer service

  • Sound like the waiter is doing a good job at their job, why are you so mad?

If you didn't want them to do their job so well, tell them to leave you alone until you call them. Judging by this crappy winge, I bet you were too gutless to even say something.

  • I wonder if he would complain if the ambo did CPR without asking.

If anything, at most restaurants I don't get enough service. What a silly op.

  • Snow White and Santa must have swapped some staff. Someone got Grumpy for Christmasβ€¦πŸ€£

  • Next you will whinge about waiters not clearing the table or being unable to order drinks because they won't come to your table. The world cannot win. Idiots will always complain about something.

I've had waiters try and take a glass that still had some wine remaining without asking if I'm done and that's an issue for me but if it's clearly empty or if they ask before taking it away, it's a good thing.

Maybe the OP doesn't really know how a decent restaurant operates.

  • +1

No wonder there's a shortage of hospitality workers cos they love dealing people with attitude and entitlement. Total ew.

  • Time to wake up, you are a Karen.
