Dupe — please use the Search functionality on Ozbargain before posting. Also Please read the Wiki for student specific deals.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/student_deals

You need either a @education.nsw.gov.au OR @tafensw.net.au email address to be eligible.

Incorrect.. any old EDU address will do. That means university students are eligible as well.

    • oh crap
how do you delete this post?

      • the magic OZBunny will do so…

to be honest, this "NEVER REPEAT" rule is really too tough!
should have make it one and a half year rule? says 450 or 500 days?
(that way we won't see repeating deal in a short time frame, one year is long enough imo)

the OP here is not advertising, nor this post is making any money for him
(if it's sockpuppet/just purely advertising, then the admin should close it already)

and that old post is what? 593 days old?
if the OP didnt remind me, I would have forgot there's such a great deal…

I would +vote to OP, thanks for sharing your finding!

Thanks for your support! I got excited when I was posting and then my heart got broken after scrimshaw's reply, and then your reply made me breath again, lol

        Thanks Davidl2

        • I support people who shares! people who have a good heart - shares their finding/experience!
there are too many underage/immature kids out there just NEG this & NEG that
(no, I am not referring to scrimshaw, I am sure he does it for good will/as a reminder for no repeating deal)

so don't take it too personally, sharing make a better community/better internet!
          afterall, this is Ozbargain spirit!

if we're not sharing, then Ozbargain wouldn't have exist!
and you, or me, or anyone else would have less chances knowing other great deals that exist!

        • and yeah, you should edit the original post as any EDU.AU email should work
my old Tafe & Uni email even valid as PREMIUM accounts! :-P

        • Heh, that previous Dreamspark post was my first post too! Interestingly, it's been roughly the same amount of time since my post till now, and my post compared to the one before that mentioning Dreamspark. Seems like a long enough time to remind all the students (…or not ;]) out there this great deal.

then my heart got broken after scrimshaw's

so don't take it too personally, sharing make a better community/better internet!

When you've been on Ozbargain for about 2+ years you learn to deal with it — so take davidl2's advise and just enjoy Ozbargain for what it is.

There's always a kind of negative psychological reaction when you get neg votes on your post — as Neil explains it its akin to getting red marks on an exam paper.

There's no need to get butthurt over neg votes or mean comments (like mine!) — Ozbargain doesn't have a reputation system and the voting system is simply a barometer about how good the deal is, not your worth as an Ozbargain member.

  • Any of these programs worth me getting?

  • I know this deal is a dupe and will be unposted, but is it really that hard to specify school/tafe students in the title?

  • +1

I'm sure all students can get those from Dreamspark. I know I got WS 2008 as a Victorian Uni student last year.

  • Also, people studying Engineering/IT at uni should be able to get Windows, Office, and a bunch of additional programs for free through Dreamspark Premium (formerly MSDNAA). Check with your uni to see if they offer it.

  • What did you enter as your school? I can not see NSW DEC in the list.

    • For me , I select NSW TAFE as I got @tafensw.net.au email.

      • I saw some TAFEs in the list but was unsure what to select with a @education.nsw.gov.au email address.

  • by the way, does anyone know what's the differences between these two?

Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition
    Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition

    R2 = Release Candidate 2?
    what about standard edition?

if standard edition is the RTM version,
why is there a R2 edition around? what's the need of it?
    (confusing)

    • +3

      2008 R2 = based on Windows 7 kernel. Optimised.

      2008 = based on Vista. Don't bother.

    • +1

      R2 = Release 2

      Think Windows 98 & Windows 98 Second Edition. Same with WS2008 & WS2008 R2.

Trivia: Originally MS wanted to call second edition server OS's as Release 2 and client OS's as Distribution 2, e.g. WS2003R2 & WXPD2 (got it? R2D2). WXP never got its D2 and MS has since scrapped all plans for second edition client OS's (with the exception of W98SE).

    • thanks guys who replied! appreciated it! :-)

  • Anyone got any ways of getting a .edu email address without being a student? Funnily enough the uni email address I used 10 years ago doesn't work :(

Would love to have a copy of VS 11.

    • +1

      Become a staff.

      • Yeah, I'm not that good at programming! :)

        • Enrol in a short course at TAFE (no prerequisite), get your e-mail address, verify with Dreamspark (valid for 1 year), discontinue TAFE course and get back your fees. You now have one year to download.

          Get your Win7 & O2010 as well.

        • Thanks, mate. I just finished registering for one of those .edu email addresses but I cant get it validated on the dreamspark site. :(

When I lived in Scotland, I was going to register for uni then just not turn up. The years uni fees were less than what council tax would have been!
Do night classes or open university type classes count?

        • +1

I think it should work as long as Uni/Tafe providing you a EDU.AU email
doesn't matter if it's short courses or night classes

  • Just used a friends Account from NSW Tafe western insitute, which gave me premium access. Cheering.

  • Can confirm it works for staff with an .edu.au address.

  • +1

I got this when I was in school.

I got my serial code for Win Server 08 R2. Will this code expire or does it last for ever?

    • It's for life.

  • +1

Awesome! Thanks for your support everyone!
I will find great bargain deals and upload next time.
    Cheers

  • As previously mentioned, this has been going for a while, but +1 for the bump in memory… I always wanted a copy of Server 2008 R2 Enterprise…

  • Hmmm, looks good

  • can any one give me a free spare one?

  • Not all tafes are eligible. I know Hornsby Tafe has the dreamspark program, but north sydney does not.
