I didn’t let this one slip by, cheers.

Important note for the general public - no PoE adaptor

AKA you'll need to get something to power this access point or it isn't going to work (injector, switch etc.)

    • I purchased one of these from Umart 2 days ago, and got a POE injector in the box.

I suspect I must of received older stock, when they used to supply the injectors.

      • What is a POE injector?

        • +2

Power Over Ethernet - means you have one cable to the Access Point that carries both data and power

      • Oh that's awesome!

  • Bought 4, just in time for my Wi-Fi overhaul

      Sounds pretty fly for wifi.

      • Lives in a mansion

      • Wait… thats my wifi password. Damn. Need to change it.

  • Couldn't see a physical address for this company on the website… Anyone used them before?

    • +3

The name seems designed to emulate AmazonAU too. Little bit suspicious from the get-go.

    • I ordered 2. The tax invoice shows:

7 Rosslyn St, Mile End South SA 5031, Australia

Street view shows OZB Enterprises (SA) Pty Ltd and the Tax Invoice also lists this as their bank account details.

        OzBargain enterprises…?? :D

        • I think that name is associated with PCByte?

      • PcByte AKA NinjaBuy AKA OZB Enterprises and whatever other names they go by.

      • iot.hub is their ebay shop. I bought a Logitech keyboard during Black Friday and had no issues with my purchase. The address mentioned above was on my invoice too..

    • I bought a couple of things from them during their Black Friday sales. No issues.

OOS :( just before I finished my order.

  • What does this do? Router is currently at wrong side of appartment blocked by double brick walls.

Can this be installed anwhere and Cat-6'd to the router?

    • +1

Yes, but look up Power over Ethernet (PoE) as you need this to make them work.

      • Ah thanks,

Do people actually install switches in their homes? For what? better wifi and CCTV?

        • +3

Do you understand what a switch is?

        • +1

For Wi-Fi access points, CCTV, game consoles, desktop computers, laptops, NAS, servers, TVs, media players.

        • Yep. And yep (amongst other things).

        • A Switch is basically a Powerboard for your network. It takes 1 Ethernet link (usually from the Router) and can convert it into 4/6/12/16/24/48 Ports, with or without PoE.

  • OOS

  • Damn missed out!

  • Does the router need WiFi 6 compatible as well?

    • +1

Don't think so. You don't even need to have existing wifi. This will take an ethernet cable and then produce a wireless network.

    • No, but you do need a POE injector or switch, plus a Unifi controller

      • Oh, didn't realise you needed a Unifi controller. There's no other way to use it?

        • +1

You don’t need any kind of extra hardware if that’s what you’re thinking. I set mine up via software on my Windows PC and I only ever open the software again if I want to change or check something.

        • +1

You don't need a UniFi controller if you just want the WiFi. Can setup with software on a comptuer or nice and simple with the phone App

          • @Grubsy: What do you need a controller for?

  • Paid $127.20 after discounts with Ebay (Ninja.Buy) 2 weeks ago. Managed to grab another 2 before it ran out of stock for $119 each delivered.

Ebay tax invoice was from same company

    OZB Enterprises (SA) Pty Ltd
7 Rosslyn St, Mile End South SA 5031, Australia
    ABN 21 621 848 600

Thanks for sharing. Good to know.

  • does this give you the same wireless name as you router or a different one?

    • +1

No, it's not an extender but an access point. So you could setup the same name and password as existing but now sure how that would work. I think you can setup more of these and they might manage the handover better?

      • thanks, didn't know there was a different. don't most homes already get a router when you sign up for nbn? what the purpose of this device then?

        • +5

Yeah, but the modem-router you get from you ISP will be more than likely overpriced and shit. This would replace/add to your existing wireless network, say for example you had poor reception at one end of your house, then this could be placed down there.

  • Sold out, bugger

  • Can it work like a mesh network? Or do you have to switch wifi if you use several devices?

  • Any chance of a restock?

  • Careful guys, software bugs haven't been fully ironed out. A lot of peeps having troubles with IoT devices.

  • $117 here woth PoE injector: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/265312176291

That's the AC not wifi 6 version mate.

  • Mine arrived a few days. Swapped out an AC Lite & AC Pro. All working well.

  • The U6-Lite arrived earlier in the week and was an easy swap from the AC-Lite mounted on the ceiling. A quick forget device, change POE settings, and then adopt and all is working well. No AX devices to test but everything is connecting as it was previously.
