    If only the DC version..

    • +1

Do they have an DC version for 660?

      • Kinda… They call it the 633DC.

Scratch that… 633 is probably more in line with the medium. My bad.

        • +3

Just going off the website, the efficiency of this model (even though it isnt DC) is very comparable in efficiency compared to the 633DC in terms of watt per CFM of air moved (10.875 CFM per watt vs 10.42) . Likely due to the larger fan blades. Generally, you don't need to spin the blades as fast to move the same amount of air the larger the fan blades are.

That's assuming you run it at max (660 also moves more air at max), they don't give data for the lower settings

    • What is the DC version?

      • +7

Higher model than the Marvel version

      • +1

Lower power consumption and quieter motor

        • +3

Ah quieter is worth paying for… prefer fan to A/C when sleeping, but hate the white noise

      • battery operated

  • Thanks OP!
Not the DC variant on sale, almost bite the bullet

  • +2

The 633DC is $194 at Kogan ATM. Much better value for an extra $8

    • The 633DC is smaller and less powerful though. Different classes altogether, not directly comparable. The 660 is a workhorse for when you need to shift large amounts of air.

      • They both circulate air. The 663DC is quieter and more energy efficient. The 633DC will move huge amounts of air if you want it to. I prefer not to hear it though so I just set it at 50% and it makes the bedroom much cooler when the AC is on. I don't need to set the AC as cold because of how well it circulates air.

    • It runs on 40v DC? do people run these in their cars off a transformer?

  • -1

Bought it for $59 from costco in-store

    • +2

      You mean $159?

      • +1

The figure "1" in front makes a big difference :-)

  • +3

this is going to be a real stupid question but can someone tell me what the benefit is over a cheap pedestal fan?

    • +9

Pedesal fan = Cools you down when it points at you.
Vornado fan = Moves air around the room, kind of like a big ceiling fan.

    • +1

These are designed to be pointed at the ceiling, not at you

As a long-time Vornado user (since 2014), I can tell you: there isn't much benefit in getting this over a regular fan, for the average home consumer.

The Vornado series shifts a lot more air than most regular fans, so if you need that kind of specific use case, they're great for that. If you just want to cool down, stick to getting a cheap fan I reckon.

The Vornado 660 that I bought back in 2014 just died on me. I've been using it to stay cool at night when I sleep — I don't think I'll be getting another, it wasn't really worth the extra money over a normal fan. I've had $40 fans that lasted longer than the Vornado. I believe in the USA the warranty is 10 years, but in Australia it's only for 5 years.

      • +1

I’ll second this. Rather have a couple of dc fans instead of this. To get air circulating well, it needs a high setting and it’s noisy as heck when turned up!

      • +5

just saved me $180 the missus sends her thanks

      • +1

To expand on this: the Vornado series are termed "air circulators", i.e. they're great for moving large amounts of air. Some people use them to promote airflow in their house/apartment, to increase the effectiveness of their air con, or just to circulate more fresh air around — typically by positioning the Vornado to move air from one room to another, or to move air down a long hallway etc.

If you just want to stay cool by having a breeze blow past you, stick to a regular fan I reckon. There's nothing wrong with the Vornados per se, I just think they're not worth 3-4x the cost of a "normal" fan for most people's use cases.

      • +1

I've previously always used pedestal fans. Found them too noisy to leave on overnight to sleep with and only cooling when it points at you.
Bought a 633DC last month and I find it to be a great investment. Saves me from running the evap for the whole house when it's just myself at home

    • +3

I have this model. This is useful when used in combination with air conditioner. It cools or warms the room a lot quicker.

Also I know this may sound weird - it’s also good when you don’t like the air directly pointed at you like a pedestal fan.

    • +2

I got one (633DC version) even though I have aircon (wall unit, not ducted). I have it plugged into a WiFi power point that turns on when my room gets to a certain temp and helps keep the house cooler. Once it gets really hot (like today in Perth), then I crank the actual aircon.

I have a pretty big open plan area and it moves the air around nicely. I don't use it to point directly on me.

Looks like they're price matching GG

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/vornado-660-large-air-circula…

You can combine it with the latitude promo (which ends today) to reduce it by a further $20 at GG.

Also $170 if you have a costco membership

    https://www.costco.com.au/Home-Furniture/Heating-Cooling-Air…

BTW, your maths is off. Assuming you are referring to the 12% CR CB, it's about a $20 discount

  • +2

Note that in the manual, usage in summer clearly states that it only supplements an air-conditioning system, don't expect it to cool your room down on its own, but you can use it to leech cool air from downstairs or something like that.

    • +4

No need to check other fan manuals, BTW - no fan cools the air down on it own.

  • Bought it for 170$ at TGG comm… the DC version I mean

    • +2

The 660 is $160 at TGG Commercial

      • +1

The DC is 170$ Someone was mentioning 194 at kogan. Should’ve replied to that. Sorry

        • +1

lol yeah sorry, that was my bad. I probably shouldn't replied to yours. I meant to let everyone know about the cheaper price. Thanks for letting me know about the DC price though, bought one for my mum

  • looking for 460!

  • Just bought one for $160 at good guys in South east Melbourne.

    • Ticketed price or…?

      • Negotiated referring to TGG commercial price, they agreed quite easily.

  • I have this and the manual ones (physical dial rather than digital buttons).

This one failed after a year. The button makes a beep but doesn’t do anything. It’s annoying because I think the fan is fine it’s just the digital controller has failed. I couldn’t find the receipt to claim warranty.

From now on I’ll only buy the manual ones as they’re still going strong after five years. They were also cheaper.

  • My apartment gets super hot on hot days and retains the heat for the next couple days. Would this be useful for me to shift some of the hot air out during the cooler nights?

  • We got this for our medium sized master bedroom. Compared to our 533DC, it's clearly more powerful for the same noise level. I definitely agree with ongoing OzB comments that the DC noise advantage applies only at low speeds. So if you want something just to help a little bit eg you are in a smaller space, DC is good. If you're sweltering at night and need some serious air movement, it'll be noisy.

Obviously the 533dc is a "small" fan but it's rated for 22.5m, which really isn't that much less than the 633dc which is rated to 24 metres.

Compare those to the 660 which is rated substantially better to than either at 30.5m.

  • Any Vornado fans I would avoid like a plague. Their so popular heater model smells out of box and does not go away. And doesn't really warm a small room. The smoky metal smell is also fairly bad and imo its poisonous

  • Any alternative besides Vornado ?

Tried to get a 633DC from GG in WA and was told i need a commercial account before they can price match it for me.
