Apple Watch Series 5 44mm Stainless Steel Gold/Silver (GPS + Cellular) $529 + Shipping ($0 with Club Catch) @ Catch

150

I've been looking to buy a new Apple Watch for a while now but the improvements have been pretty poor imo (Series 6/7). Only difference between this and the new S7 is the larger display (sure it's also curved on the edges), the Oxygen monitor and faster chip (which still uses the same as Series 6).

Seems like a solid price given it has cellular and is in the stainless steel case.

  • Why it does not have 2 years warranty?

    • Seems to be the same for all Apple products on Catch, I’m hoping it wouldn’t be a problem to deal with Apple directly and they would provide 2 years.

      • Consumer guarantee does not apply to grey imports.

      • Apple have international warranty

The s7 is a blooodddyyyy nice screen though.

  • so far boost mobile hasnt got esim yet yea?

  • Is this a good deal ?

  • I got the S7 and the design and slimness of the S7 does not compare to previous gen’s

  • I bought a second hand one in immaculate condition for $250

    • LTE and Stainless steel? Good deal if so,

      • Yep, lots of bargains on FB marketplace

Also, lots of scam stars on FB marketplace and Gumtree.

I appreciate a good bargain but describing the differences between a Watch that’s now 3 generations old as minor seems like a pretty big stretch.

Blood oxygen is an important metric in a COVID world or for folks with sleep apnoea. I agree it might be debatable there on utility.

But a far larger screen (allowing for keyboard capability) that is harder to break (inc improved dustproofing), significantly faster chip (inc U1 wideband for better tracking), better battery & energy utilisation (ie longer lasting), 3rd Gen heart sensor (improved accuracy & read)..

And ultimately the asking price of a brand new Series 7 45mm aluminium (vs stainless) and gps (vs with cellular) is ~$100 more. Cellular and stainless steel seem to have very little utility or price longevity— as proven by these heavy discounts.

Anyhow food for thought on an alt view to value, appreciate OP bringing a deal for those who seek it on older models.

      Mate, spot on!!! x100

Cellular is a hidden scam. You pay more for the device, and then have to pay your telco more money every month to keep that eSIM active.

      Stainless steel = Highly cosmetic

      • +3

I’d agree on most things except stainless steel being only cosmetic. The S/S models have sapphire crystal faces that are magnitudes more durable than the aluminium models glass fronts.

        • +1

This is not entirely true. The sapphire crystal is more scratch resistant but also more brittle than the ion X glass used on aluminium models. I know because I cracked mine from a 1 foot drop.

          • @raghuchary: If so, that’s incredible. I’ve accidentally bashed and scrapped mine against brick walls and momentarily thought “that’s it - it’s gone” and looked and found it still in good shape. You’re making me reconsider the upgrade

            • +1

@tassyk: That was a series 5 stainless steel that cracked. I chose to go Aluminium when I bought the series 6. It is something to think about. I wear the watch all the time, and don’t like to add a protector on it. Better to go for the aluminium model in my case.
