  • My Anova sous vide machine broke recently. Does anyone know if I can use this to sous vide?

    • +2

      Nope

    • +1

i once tried to make a sous vide appliance before buying my anova using a slow cooker and a stc 1000 controller. The pot has too much thermal mass. When the temp gauge turns the element off, the pot is still transferring the heat from the element, and the temperature fluctuates way too much, and once it overshoots, takes ages to come back down

I Don't think it's as set and forget, it has a temperature probe but cooking wise it say it only has a low, high and keep warm setting. As such it's not like a sous vide where you set the temperature and it automatically keeps that temp.

    • that's incredibly misleading, the temp and buttons next to it insinuate that one can control the temp

      • I could be wrong, I don't own one, I'm going by the description/specs on the ad. but it doesn't read that way.

Edit: Maybe I am wrong, it says that one of the cooking methods is "probe setting" (thanks @julz, see below)

  • Interesting

The Temp Control™ Slow Cooker has three cooking settings to make cooking anything you plan to cook, easy.

PROGRAM SETTING Program your preferred amount of cooking time and the slow cooker automatically shifts to Keep Warm at the end of the selected cooking time.

PROBE SETTING Perfect If you are cooking a large cut of meat or using a recipe that requires food to reach a certain temperature.

MANUAL SETTING To slow cook the traditional way without setting a time, select traditional High or Low slow cook settings.

  • Can this cook rice though?

    • This is what I would like to know too, but no answer yet.

    • In my opinion, getting a multi cooker is a better option

  • In my opinion this a bad product. When you're cooking a roast you want the meat to get to an internal temperature and then quickly remove it from the oven to not overcook it. Slow cooking is completely different, you want to get to an internal temperature and then keep it at that temperature for an extended period of time so that it breaks down the connective tissue etc. Having a probe that turns the machine off when it gets to temp is fine for roasts, but not for slow cooking.

If you could put the probe in the liquid and the unit would maintain a set temp that would be great, but that isn't what this one does.

  • Im pretty sure have used catch delivery trial a very long time ago,it seems I maybe eligible for free trial again can this be canceled or are you stuck paying it after you take up the offer.
In past normally sending to a store like target etc was free but not now, they seem to offer it free then don’t.
I certainly don’t want to be stuck paying postage every month as I don’t buy often enough

    • +1

You can cancel straight away and retain the free trial for the remaining 30 days

      • You can use different payment methods so if I paid with PayPal how would you cancel them using your PayPal for it, or cancel right away or after item sent and once you cancel can you still use for rest of month

        • +1

Can't use PayPal for Club Catch subscription.

      • Sorry you answered by question already so I just need to cancel prior that’s all

      • So much for free trial further into the ordering said I used card before so tried using another and that said they would charge the club catch fee upfront so it’s not a free trial for me if the want to charge a monthly fee upfront

        • Probably need to create a new account with the new card and possibly new phone number to get another free Club Catch trial.

          • @adr8: It’s easy to get unlimited accounts it’s not so easy with phone numbers and cards, I was going to try the zip virtual card but that might not work.
As phone number will be same.
I probably pass on the item even though much cheaper than elsewhere I just refuse to pay there postage costs when at times they offer free click and collect in target and Kmart.

  • Is the inner pot made of ceramic? I could not find it anywhere.

    • +1

Dishwasher-safe crockery bowl & toughened glass lid

  • Picked one up, thanks!

Edit: Huh, it went back up to $109.95 ($104.95 ClubCatch) after I bought one, not OOS though, still 9 left..

    • +1

Still shows lower price at checkout for me but refuse to pay the postage

Stupid site says on next page sold out lol they are as bad as eBay on membership fees.
Glad I got prime with Amazon I would buy more from.catch if they offered the click and collect option free like they have done before.

      • WEIRD. I've had some very iffy feelings about Club Catch the last few days.. Either I'm not reading it's 1 per customer or the stock counter is not to be trusted. Was on payment page the other day where I would have saved over $800 on a product, flicked back to the stock page on another tab, still said there was 7 - 8. Back to finish payment tab and it was already removed from cart for OOS. Back to stock page, and it still said there was 2 left.. Only then going back up to original price at 1 stock left..

Very much trying to avoid CC now. MASSIVE letdown.
