  • Nice price

      Didn't see any yesterday

  • I can make it at home for free.. all I need is an aubergine

    • aubergine

      Eggplant?

      • A comedic reference from a BBC Indian skit show from the late 90s where the mum could make anything at home for free with an aubergine.

Paneer is actually very easy to make at home, full cream milk, lemon and a saucepan

Interestingly, the same process, but with vinegar as the acid instead of lemon juice, makes a simple form of plastic:
          https://sciencebob.com/make-plastic-milk/

That version isn't durable, but when treated with formaldehyde it was one of the earliest types of plastic, pre-dating bakelite, the first fully-synthetic plastic.

It was used for small items, like buttons. When treated with formaldehyde, the resulting plastic is called Galalith:

          • @Russ: Mmmm toxic formaldehyde.

Vinegar can also be used for paneer. We stick to lemons as we have a tree

  • Price ends in 97 so it's marked down or clearance. Could be short dated.

    • Just checked mine - dated 27-Jan-22, so enough time.

Even at original price that’s great value

  • can i have 10 kg please

    • I literally saw a guy fill up his cart - it was probably more than 10 kg. 😅

      • u can freeze it. it's made from Australian milk

      • wish it was in Melbourne

Guys, Paneer is not cottage cheese as we know it in Australia.

Cottage cheese is produced by taking the curds of milk and adding cream.

    • I used cottage cheese for lasagna… would paneer be just as good?

      • +3

You might be able to substitute fresh home made paneer for cottage cheese.. but not store bought paneer which is much harder than cottage cheese.

      • No its too hard. Its like trying to put ricotta in a lasagne.

  • What can you cook with it? Bought some last time, not as cheap, most of it is in freezer now as I don’t know what to do with it except fry it like haloumi

Cut it in small cubes, marinate with salt and some spices, put it in airfryer for 5-7 mins…and enjoy….

    • A lot of Indian curries can be made vegetarian by subbing out the protein for paneer.
Paneer Butter Masala is essentially just a Butter Chicken but with paneer instead of chicken.

      • +1

This. You can get some of those simmer sauces and use paneer instead of protein.

        • But it’s a pain to make Indian curry with a million different spices unless they have pre-make ones already in a tin like the Thai curry

  • Fantastic price for that much paneer. At coles and WW, 1KG costs $34.5.

    Sorry guys - party’s over - it’s back up to $11.99.
