Are we ever going to see a 3070 around the $1k mark my 1080 is going ok but keen to upgrade it soon

yeh wait til eth 2.0 next yr

  • Can anything here be used in a PS5?

    • +2

Min read/write for M.2 in PS5 is 5GB/Sec, so the Samsung 980 PRO will do just fine.

    • Firecuda 520 is also gen 4 so technically it will work. But I'd play it safe and go with higher speed ones if you can afford it.

    • Firecuda 520 is technically possible.

If you want the cheapest option:
      Corsair MP600 CORE 2TB - $259

However, that one is QLC and it's below specs by even wider margin. It's just that PS5 doesn't enforce the read speed requirement. It appears to check whether the SSD supports PCIe gen 4 x4. You do get a warning message if it is below specs. PS5 cares mostly about reads, so that's somewhat more controller and bandwidth dependent.

if your going with the 980 Pro just buy it now, I had a look at it yesterday when looking at the WD Sn850 deal, I ended up going with the WD but really all your saving is $6 waiting for the sale (plz don't crucify me OZB) its more than likely to sell out fast when it goes on sale and it already has free shipping.. I also looked at the Firecuda 530 1TB yesterday too that came with the limited edition heatsink but I couldn't find much info about the heatsink so I didn't want to risk it not doing so well in the ps5 if it came with the normal firecuda heatsink for $299 I would have bought it in an instant but that one was regular price

      • It's very expensive now though. I bought the 980 Pro for <$240 back in July. That is unless you value the heatsink for $60…..can probably just go to Ebay and get a similar one for $15.

Word of warning, that ITX 3060 by MSI has an issue with VRM throttling.

    • +3

Great to know… It still won't make any difference in this market, they can make Papier-mâché fans and stick it on GPUs and they'd still be able to sell them at 2x the msrp.

    • +1

Interesting, I've got one and I'm able to push +200 on the core and +1000 on the memory no issues (apart from heat). Is there a way to identify when the VRM is overheating? Thanks MSI for not including VRM and VRAM temperature probes >:(

      • +1500 mem stable here, maybe its something else throttling

  • WD Ultrastar DC HC550 SE 18TB 7200 RPM 3.5" SATA Enterprise Hard Drive - $599 + Shipping (Good Deal for a local product with local warranty). Personally wish it was the HC550 16TB model on discount as well as that is all the DS920+ "officially" supports up to with SMART support.

    • Missed out on this deal… wonder if Op knows whether they'll get stock again and do it for a similar price again (otherwise will have to settle for Amazon US's $630 WD Red Pro)

Suunto is one of the biggest sports watch brands in the world alongside Garmin, Polar etc.

Just because you haven't heard of them doesn't mean no one has.

    • +6

Suunto make high precision compasses used all over the world by geologists, engineers, etc.

    • +3

Suunto is a really well known and respected outdoors/adventure/fitness watch brand.

In the fitness space their watches have long had more technical features like R-R interval tracking in the heartrate monitoring. Their GPS/compass adventures watches are very solid and popular, and my own interest in them was hoping that the D5 dive computer they make was sneaking into a sale somewhere.

Maybe they're not well known if you don't already know the particular space they're in, but it's like questioning MoTec or Magneti Marelli as companies nobody has heard of before. If you know you know.

    • yep also had a great experience with them just pre xmas

  • thoughts on the LG UltraGear 27" 2K QHD Nano IPS 144Hz monitor?

    • +1

It's pretty much the same monitor as the LG 27GN850 but with an ergonomic stand instead of the gamer-style look. It's a solid 1440p gaming monitor.
The only downside I would say that they both (850 + 880) lack is the contrast ratio is below a standard IPS monitor should be (800:1 instead of 1000:1) and also the black uniformity is not as good as a VA panel.

      • thanks for the detailed reply.

Done some searching since my post and looks like the Dell S2721DGF is regarded as the best monitor with these sort of specs for the common $399 sale price.

It lacks G-Sync though and I don't think it has HDR, do you have any thoughts on the choice between the two?

        • +2

They're both pretty similar in specs both are G-sync compatible. If you game in a brighter room then the Dell variant does a bit better in terms of glares. I would just get which ever one is cheaper at the time of buying. Make sure it's the S2721DGF(165hz) not the S2721DS(75hz) variant.

  • @nocure any chance of free shipping for a UPS?

  • +2

How good is that CyberPower 1300VA UPS? I know I want a line-interactive UPS, but past that I don't know how to tell quality from snake oil.

  • I'm no good at looking at SSD

    Crucial P1 2TB or Corsair MP400 2TB? Both entry level QLC….

Also can you use the Corsair MP600 PCIE 4.0 in a Dell XPS 15 7590? Just caps to PCIE 3.0 speed?

    • +1

      Yes, it should work

    • Corsair MP600 Core I assume? Are you okay to remove the included heatsink? It will be capped at PCIE gen 3 speed.

Between those 3, performance wise: MP600 Core > MP400 > Crucial P1. But, personally, if I have that Dell XPS laptop, I would look at 970 Evo Plus 2TB (wait for a good deal of course).

      • Yeah can't go wrong with EVO. Been using a 1TB for a few years but now I want a the 2TB but everything is very expensive.

  • Sh*t I just bought that drive this morning for $265 from them.

Paid debit, so no cashback protection either.

Hasn't been picked yet, should I cancel and pay a restock?

  • -2

Shopping express delivery fees and credit card fees will add 20 bucks on top

  • great deal, just in time to replace the 1TB in my portable SSD

damn, OOS in minutes, waste of time
