Darn, bought this for around $1K a few months ago. The i5 in this is great, good performance (for office tasks / non-gaming). But not sure if I would purchase Acer again because first unit had a dead green pixel, and the replacement unit has noticeable backlight bleed in top-left corner. Also, fingerprint sensor not really all that great.

    • What's the battery life on this?

      • +2

Good, not amazing. Maybe like 6-7 hours of light use. Drop that to 5 if you do video calling. Intel Evo claims like 12+ hours which I think is a bit of a joke.

        • +4

Something to try; set your max cpu state to 99%.

This is a trick to disable turbo-boost if just doing office tasks.

The current:performance ratio is really off tilt when turboing, so you can often get significant battery life boosts when you disable it.

You might get lucky and be able to disable it in the bios; if not, there ya go.

        • Looking at Acer site thought with a 56Wh battery it would be far better than most which seem to be around 38/42 Wh. Although I do not believe the site saying it would last 17hrs :)

          • @pgj: I have a Dell with 56wh, I am lucky if it lasts 3 hours

            • @Laziofogna: Ok, thought that was the main indicator for battery life. Thanks for the reply

    • Do you know if the ram is soldered and not upgradable?

      • +2

Yeah unfortunately RAM is soldered and non-upgradeable. Would only buy this for office and casual usage. On the positive side, the CPU operates at 28W rather than 15W, so it will be able to sustain higher clock speeds without thermal throttling.

Sounds like the classic crappy Acer build quality!

  • Seems like a fantastic price. Need something for basic browsing, YouTube. Gaming laptop too heavy (and horrible battery life) to use daily for basic tasks.

    • +1

wouldn't a tablet be better for basic browsing, YouTube

      • Tablet browsers suck. I would want a keyboard too. Already have an ipad which works fine, but too finicky for proper browsing/typing

        • -1

laptop would suck more do basic browsing and youtube..

-it is much heavier and not as easy to move around with a laptop..
-there is usually no touch interface on laptop, so need to move a mouse cursor around from small trackpad.
-touch UI is better on tablet for watching youtube and choosing different videos..
-the battery life is usually not as good.
-lying down on a bed or chilling out on a lounge to browse youtube or browse websites is more easier done on a tablet (lighter) and more enjoyable than laptop..
-how often do you actually need to type while browsing or watching youtube, and the tablet keyboard is not that bad to type on anyway..

Laptop is generally suitable more for doing work and more hardcore gaming..
Tablet is generally considered best for browsing sites and watching youtube..

@pinkybrain: But he stated he wants a keyboard. And then you need to buy a stand, to keep a tablet upright.

Not to mention, since he also states "tablet browsers suck" this means he wants windows; and there's no decent windows tablet around this price.

List as many "pros" as you wish, the 'customer' has stated his key points to meet, and a tablet doesn't meet them.

Not to mention touch screens are always glossy, and pentile. Besides the overabundance of green in the pentile display, matte 'protectors' usually look bad compared to a nice matte screen.

Ive never been in a circumstance where ive said "damn, I wish this device didnt stand upright on its own" or "boy, I wish I didnt have a keyboard!"

    • Lenovo duet will be v good for that.

  • No touchscreen

  • +4

    Ram not upgradeable confirmed

    • 8 gb of ram is not good for future proofing.

  • Decent price for a fairly premium tiger lake i5 laptop especially after taking advantage of the cash back too.

  • +8

For 600 dollars cheapskates still want touchscreen, upgradable RAM and 10 hours battery ffs.

    • Nah. But non touch is a dealbreaker for me

      comes on ozbargain

      calls people cheapskates

Bought this machine from HN a week back and have been enjoying how quiet and light it is. Speakers are probably one of its weakpoints for me.

    • What is the battery life like?

      • With video watching + browsing, around 15-17% an hour

        • Much appreciated

        • so how much hours can you generally get daily doing those activities?

and what activities do you generally do on it and how many battery hours would that get?

    • Specs say 1.2kg?

      • +1

Light for the specs and price

  • Perfect timing. Needed a new laptop to use at work.

Some people want everything for nothing, this is literally cheaper than buying secondhand.

I just bought this so thanks OP! Good little upgrade from my ever aging Acer aspire from years ago, should be great for surfing and watching youtube while visiting the fam.

  • Specs say "FHD IPS non-glare1" so looks like a matte (not glossy) display. Nice.

  • I hate that they removed a USBA port compared to 2020 model

  • Bummed, just got a message that the lenovo i ordered on boxing day they had no stock (and it got the 10% ebay code).

Oh poop, so i should have signed up with the ebay plus membership and used the code.

  • Thanks bought one.

  • Anyone got update from BingLee on the order? I have heard nothing from them since puchased, so wondering if it will come or they ll cancel the order.

    • No updates on this but I ordered something else from binglee eBay on December 30 that only shipped yesterday

  • Mine arrived a few days ago but had to pick it up from the post office.
First impression is WOW, such great value.

CPU runs so quiet and cool with the notebook in idle.

Surprised it even came with a backlit keyboard.

Not a fan of the power supply, but if i read the specs correctly i should be able to get a usb-c style charger (of suitable power specs) and be able to use that.
