Eligibility:
This offer is available to new Card Members only. This means you must not have held a Card issued directly by American Express Australia in the last 18 months. You are eligible if you hold an additional/supplementary card on someone else’s account, or if you’ve held an American Express Card issued by ANZ, Commonwealth Bank, NAB or Westpac. The minimum income to apply is $65,000. You must also be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or hold a long term visa (long term means 12 months or more and does not include a student visa).

Not my brightest, but on Saturday I accidentally applied for the wrong card (Platinum Edge). I realised my mistake straight away, called and got the application cancelled. Sadly the approval was instant.
I asked if when I applied to the product I was after I would get the new membership benefits. Operator said yes.
I called again today to re-confirm and was merrily advised that I'm not eligible for new member benefits, I have to wait 18 months and essentially tough luck. I asked if this could be manually overridden, as it was obviously a mistake and I never actually held the card. Lady said "nobody can override that", which sounds made up.
In short, is there a number with people actually interested in selling the product within Amex? I strongly feel this lady was not going to commission so had absolutely no interest in helping me.
