780

Here you go folks, as usual, Luke from TechFast has this incredible deal on the latest RTX 3080 LHR 12 GB model at $1999 for Phoenix and $2079 for Phantom.

Phantom OOS now.

Phoenix: https://techfast.com.au/products/Gainward-Phoenix-RTX-3080-1…

Absolute steal seeing the last 3080 Deal from HT had the sold out MSI 3080 10GB for the same price. So you'll get the extra ram and bandwidth for free with the Phoenix. As all things should be, price is balanced in consistent with last Techfast 3080 deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/670813

Not sure which one to get?, this review might help you between Phantom & Phoenix: https://youtu.be/q_VC_00wcMU?t=1138

Phantom generally has better cooling, and the extra pin helps with overclocking. And it includes the RGB sync cable and RGB led, whilst Phoenix doesn't.

Most importantly for gamers, what can I say, 12GB of vram surely future proof your gaming investment in years to come.

According to this it beats 3080 Ti on most games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsHZ3ZoBjLw

We might not see 80 series under $2k anytime soon. This could be your last change to stay in the 80 market.
otherwise you have to settle with 3070 or lower.

    • +3

with a 1080 I'd probably continue to wait another few months personally. I had a 1070ti and intended to but it started failing.

      • Still hanging in there with mine, pretty easy when all I play is warzone these days :)

        • @Streetpirate Warzone is one of the most demanding games, I reckon if you can run it you can run most stuff

I play almost exclusively Warzone and I couldnt make my old 1080 handle it any longer

      • Open it up and clean it and repaste.

Underclock the ram and gpu by 5-10%, if it's only degraded it should still run

    • Hold on man. I'm still playing with a gtx1070.
Weigh the options again during EOFY.

Even if you have to settle for 3070 or 4070, the upgrade will be more than noticeable.

      • yeah im thinking you are right, im still getting over 70+ fps on most games on medium settings, as long as it doesnt drop below 60 i'm happy. Hopefully that will get me to 4000 series

    • +3

I have a 1080 and am holding. There as so many awesome games that don't require this card. There is no need to rush unless you're a reviewer or a streamer or something.

    • +1

Don't get sucked in by FOMO and paying exorbitant prices. I have the same and it still runs many games well

    • +1

If you feel the 1080 is getting too far behind for gaming purposes I would recommend getting anything with RTX in there. The DLSS updates and constant optimisations mean you are getting free FPS upgrades all the time. My 3+ year old 2080 is still pumping out high FPS almost all games on Max settings including Ray Tracing On. Still cannot fault the GPU at all considering at the time I was told I was getting ripped off and should have bought a 1080ti instead. Lucky I didn't follow that poor advice.

I can't help but think those seeking 3080 and 3090 are paying premium prices for academic rather than practical results. As for "future proofing". No way I consider getting ripped 2 times RRP as future proofing. You are locking in market inflation that is sure to come down in coming 12-24 months.

      • -paying premium prices for academic rather than practical results-

Yeah that sounds like the computer hardware market in a nutshell.

I think the question isn’t so much whether or not that’s an acceptable price for a GPU. That depends. We should rather ask ourselves what games currently exist that justify investing into top-end PC gaming hardware. Quite frankly, I cannot think of many.

There isn’t the blockbuster game that is a must play and where you feel that the leap in graphical fidelity is really worth it. What Crysis was back in the days. Cyberpunk was meant to be a more recent title in that league. But everyone could see much of its excessive hardware demands were due to poor optimisation. Not to mention that gameplay was rather duh.

    • 0 games I can think of utilise that kind of power. If you aren't mining then you are getting ripped it's simple as that. You can achieve stellar results with much lower spec GPUs. I feel gamers have gotten way ahead of themselves in this ridiculously inflated market. FOMO

    • Exactly… and also I feel these inflated prices will push many away from PC gaming and onto Xbox and PS5. Then when the mining boom folds these companies are going to struggle to get their old customer base back..

      • Seriously, consoles were good before. But with the arrival of PS5 and the Xbox Series, the gap to PC gaming has shrunk dramatically. For now at least. I don’t blame anyone who abandons PC gaming for good and moves over to consoles. Even though that means waiting to get one.

Great deal for scalpers and miners… Gamers, not so much.

  • +1

    will try it for mining!

    • will give you around $1900-$2100 a year before electricity. YMMV. Using today's BTC price $A59k.

    • I’m not into crypto mining, but from an economical perspective, I would have thought that there’s an equilibrium of what it costs you to be buying and running mining hardware vs the profits that can be made. The fact that you have an ROI in 12 months makes it obvious why prices only ever go up and demand remains high. Or put differently: it doesn’t actually make sense for GPU manufacturers and retailers to be selling these in the first place. They’d cut a better profit by using them for crypto mining on their own.

      • Nvidia and AMD businesses are selling GPU, not crypto mining, they cannot switch their business overnight. Have reputation and brand to hold.

The 12 months ROI are in the hands of miners, not gpu makers, their profit already cashed in the moment you buy those GPUs from retailers like Techfast.

If BTC hits US$100k for the first time this year, then your ROI will be in less than 6 months, depending when it hits that level.

        • +1

they cannot switch their business overnight

Not overnight, we've known about this crypto thing for many years now. If you make crypto mining equipment it's not too much of a stretch to convert one of your warehouses to a dedicated mine site and feed a percentage of your production stock into it. At wholesale materials cost and Chinese electricity prices they could easily double their revenue. I'd be surprised if someone at the factory isn't already doing it unofficially.

      • ROI in 12 months assumes crypto will not tank, so that's a risk on its own.

  • +3

Dude. I understand the price is decent in this insane hyperinflated GPU market that the price is ok but calling it a steal doesn't sit right with me.

    • I know, but many including myself has been waiting for 3080s price to drop to lower $800 since its launch 16 months ago. Just like 1080s back in the day.

But hey, we can only get on the boat, or wait at the piers.

      • Haha. Id be happy to just get it to launch price of $1400

        • thats all they are worth

      • hey pm me, cant pm u first

  • +1

100% more than im willing to pay lmao

  • Why not get 3080 Ti if 3080 is only a few hundreds cheaper?

  • Are there any 3070ti systems coming anytime soon? I was hoping to jump on the 3070 card but missed the train

  • Guys heads up not sure if these are the GS or golden sample versions. The non GS models in the past did not have high enough power limits. I believe there is a 12gb 3080 phantom and a phantom GS on the Gainward website. Hoping the OP can chime in here.

    HODL….. For few more years.

  • Hmmm, should I sell my Giga 2070 Windforce and buy this?

    • +1

      Yes.

  • For once, I bought something that appreciated in its value haha
This might the case for 2022 where the GPU holds value. So, anyone on HODL needs to think of another strategy.

Interesting review for those that would like to watch
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tS7lx5us1fg
There are no performance reviews out yet as NVIDIA only released the driver on launch day - yesterday or the day before.
So they released the card over a week ago to reviewers etc but no driver to support it, so they couldn't bench mark the card.
They go on to say that essentially Team Green are just trying to set a higher market price for cards and that they have phased out 3080 10GB cards

    • -2

3080 10GB LHR still being sold on ebay for $2k+. I think its fair price to pay for 3080 12gb version from this listing.

  • +1

    HODL for 4 series

    • +2

not before 30 super series coming out.

  • So glad I got my 3080 for $1199 when I did.

    • Sell it for $2600 lol. it appreciates like $80k investment car.

      • This brand new 3080 with 12GB VRAM for $2000 or his second-hand 3080 with 10GB VRAM for $2600? Hmm, decision, decision…

        • Don’t forget mine is also not LHR. That’s gotta make it worth more right ?

          • @MikeMikeMike: $2200-$2600 for non LHR. depending on brands, etc. EVGA is the best for mining.

            • @[Deactivated]: That’s crazy. I have an EVGA XC3 Ultra. But I would never sell it.

              • @MikeMikeMike: I wouldn't either, unless you want free upgrade on brand new 3080 'Tie' lol.

                • +1

@[Deactivated]: But if you are not mining, then might as well sell your non-LHR 3080 10GB card for $2200-$2600, then use that money to buy this new LHR 3080 12GB card.

                  • @edfoo: Exactly, you get brand new item and faster performance for gaming. non LHR is for miners. LHR for gamers, that what its intended to be supposedly.

                    • @[Deactivated]: Just hoping nVidia releasing a newer non-mining 3080 card for <$1000 now haha.

                      • @edfoo: best chance you get is to wait till 2023/2024 for 4000 series. forget about 30 series LHR fiascos.

  • +3

Ended up paying over $2210 for the phantom with shipping cost $23 is that normal?

    • -2

where from? how come you didnt get this deal?

  • HODL for 4 series intel coming too more competition lower costs & crypto will tank shortly also

    • 9M Ether are locked away.

The network needs more Ether now more than ever. Miners are making a killing and will for the next 1Y to 3Y.

  • Anyone know how the Gainward Phoenix cards perform in terms of fan noise / acoustics compared to others on the market? Can't find too many reviews, presumably as these aren't sold in US.

  • +1

As we had hoped they were released over the weekend and are now with the courier. Standard time from them to us is 24 hours so all going well the cards are with us tomorrow so system builds and single card orders can be completed.
