These were going for 2.50 a box here in Vic all through lockdown. Was wondering why they went up to 3.20 a box…

      • +1

        that's coles.
        this promotion is woolworths

        • +2

They were both on "Everyday low prices" / "Down Down" tickets until yesterday for $2.50.

Chances are we'll start seeing them come on special for $2.50 every second week, as such what happens with these types of things. The promo is kinda inconsequential.

        • Explains why Woolworths doesn't show https://pricehipster.com/woolworths-hostile

    • +2

First 5,000 submissions only. If you're interested then you better get cracking…

      • I see what you did there

        • But they missed the savvy/savoy pun

    • +1

Yes can confirm they were $2.50 up until recently as I saw the promotion in the first week and they had the Woolworth's red "Low Price Always" sign (effectively meaning they won't go on special) on the big displays and usual shelf position. I checked and Coles had the same price. Woolworths then increased the price to $3.20 and removed the Low Price Always signs as clearly "always" only means until they change their mind. Of course there are the usual in store errors in price labeling with some stores missing some prices to change.

I got in early (first week of promotion) as there is no way to tell when the 5000 run out. I wouldn't normally buy these if not for the picnic blanket especially given the well timed price mark up at Woolworths. No doubt the price will drop later to make some think they are saving money.

  • Thanks, will check out my local woolies this week.

    • +2

Keep in mind these are 66% carbs and 18% fat….

      • +10

        but free picnic rug

        • +4

          Probably 100% polyester…

      • +1

yea same as potato chips. even more fat with cheese or dip tho

  • I can imagine the quality…

    • +2

But it comes with a free brand name on it

      • It's not free, they've increased the price of the boxes.

        • The brand name is free; they could have just used plain rugs.

      • +5

But the brand name is cursed…

        • +1

          That's bad

  • What's the difference between jatz and savoy? And which is the closest to ritz? Haha

    • -8

      jatz and savoy

jatz and savoy are the same…

    • +3

which is the closest to ritz?

      neither…

ritz have a more buttery flavour and crumble more easily.

    • +1

There are also some recipe differences between the two crackers – the most obvious ones are that Jatz contains full cream milk powder and malt while Savoy contains golden syrup instead of malt. … It was decided to keep Savoy and Jatz because consumers in Victoria and NSW were equally passionate about their local brands.

  • -7

In NSW it is Savoy. I think the rest of Aus calls it Jatz.

They basically taste the same, but there are some minor ingredient differences.

A quick google should give the info you require.

    • +16

What (profanity)? They're Jatz in NSW you madman

      • Ok ok, my bad :(

I thought that was the difference?

Maybe its Victoria they are Savoy…..or S.A?….or N.T? or W.A………………

In any case, Jatz/Savoy are delicious. Just don't look at the nutritional info.

        • +8

Savoy were made by Brockhoff in Victoria and Jatz were Arnotts in NSW then Arnotts took over Brockhoff but kept the Savoy because most Victorians have taste and wouldn't buy Jatz 🙂

But if you look at the ingredients and nutrition panels on the boxs it appears they are now the same product whereas before one was slightly softer in texture

    • +1

I live in NSW. I haven't seen Savoys before

    • Only recently moved to Jatz in VIC for coles and woolies, although IGA have been selling them as Jatz for years now.

      • +2

Burton's IGA in Euroa sells both, just to cover all bases!

  • +8

What is this? A picnic rug for ants? Well yes, once you put Jatz on it.

  • Any reason you couldn’t just return the products after purchase ?

    • +7

      Only the indignity.

      • +4

Look personally I’ve never returned anything to a supermarket but I’m trying to eat healthier post Xmas and 3 packs of biscuits in the house is just too much temptation.
Supposed I could just donate them to the food collection on the way out

        • +2

Well I say "indignity" not as discouragement, but rather as a challenge.

No true Ozbargainer it would ever let the issue of "dignity" get in the way of acquiring the ultimate prize……a discounted or free item!

The larger question is of course, do you really need a red and white picnic rug?!

        • It sounds like you should just pick up a different unbranded rug rather than having one that will be constantly reminding you of Savoys.

      • +1

You say that like it means something.

Some here will step over their grandmother just for a sale.

  • +2

Cheers, will pickup a few boxes of Savoys tomorrow.

    Jatz can get (profanity).

  • +2

Advertised at $2.50 but got home and found they scanned at $3.20. I feel like Woolworths gets me with at least 1 item like this every week. Scammed!

    • +2

Thats why I always check my receipts. Happened to me and I ended up paying $5 for 3 boxes as a result of the scanning code of practice.

    • +2

You could have got them for free under the scanning code of practice. Well at least the first box free.

    • +1

Bought them at Woolies half an hour ago. Mine were $3.20 each too. Maybe it’s not a pricing error?

      • +1

I bought them from an advertising display pile of a few hundred set up outside the isles with a huge sign that said $2.50 in big font. It also had the marketing material for the rug promotion as a part of the display. It clearly worked though because my son only wanted one packet but we bought 3.

  • What is this?

    • A rug for picnic

  • +2

Does anyone knows the size of the rug? It does not state in the promo.

    • +2

I contacted them yesterday with regard to the size and waterproofness. I am still waiting for their reply. I will update here once I hear from them.

    • +1

      Standard 1.5m I think

  • +3

Woolworths website actually shows the picnic rug as sort of thin briefcase size with a red Jatz cover/handle.

Jatz website shows at least 16 red or white squares wide & 6 squares are the height [longest side] of the Savoy or Jatz packet (assuming an actual photo of both & not a composite image).

^ above size is a minimum as blanket is wider than pic on both sides - also appears to be cotton & therefore I would call it a tablecloth (except you sit on it at picnic).

EDIT just re-counted the Woolies folded up one is 17 squares wide so could be quite large if folded in thirds.

  • Anyone know if Jatz cracked pepper will also count?

  • +4

Got mine delivered today. Not soft. Completely synthetic/plastic (and smells like it). More like a thick tablecloth/tarp.

    Here's a photo of it

  • +2
Just got the reply from Arnott's :

    Dimensions:

    When closed: approx 310mm(W) x 210mm(H) and 110mm(D)

    When opened (blanket): 1185mm(W) x 1480mm(H).

    Material:

    600D Nylon Polyester.
  • Got to love the irony of point 15 in the T&C for an Arnott's product:

    1. If the reward is unavailable, the Promoter, in its discretion, reserves the right
to substitute the reward with a reward to the equal value and/or specification
subject to any written directions from a regulatory authority.
  • +1

I just got it in today. Has a real strong plastic smell and it looks like a cheapy product.

    • pics plz

    • How does it compare to the kmart one?

      • I got mine today as well it is thinner and rougher than the kmart one. Single layer of plastic with stitched edges.

  • it's big maybe 2x2.5, heavy duty, great for a freebie.
