  I’ve used Flexiroam pretty extensively and I find it good (bar some confusion over which time zone my plan started, which I never figured out, I just didn’t have any internet for my last 12 hrs in the US)

  If you can get a deal like this, or the 70% off local plan deals which they sometimes do, it works out really well for countries that it’s either hard to buy a local sim or roam to, or you’re not there long enough to bother

    The Local Plans commence at 00:00 local time, but I can see your point in bigger countries & regions. We're shifting to Global Plans at the moment because they last much longer and data rolls over with any new purchase.

    The Local Plans offer great value in certain countries: Indonesia (Bali), Singapore, HK, Thailand, Egypt, India just to name a few, but as we all now, it's probably a few months til this current wave passes.

  Doesn't compare very well with some of the options at Sims Direct - eg, 12gb @ $36 for 71 countries in Europe and Asia.

    I’d say the benefit is for frequent travellers or those who go to multiple regions. It’s convenient to have one sim that you can load with the local plans (which are cheaper than the global ones) depending on where you’re travelling to as opposed to somewhere like SimsDirect that would see you having to get multiple sims

    But I see your point

    Thanks for the feedback. The product you identify above is valid for 30 days. For a fairer comparison you should look at the 365 day verision which is $85 so not much difference really.

    Download & validity are two important factors, but there are many other that impact the value.

    Coverage: Most mail order SIM Card companies use 3 UK's prepaid SIM Card. So, for many Aussies heading to the UK they are using 3's network which is the worst of the big 3 over there. Flexiroam currently uses O2 & 3. Two networks is better than one!

    Flexiroam offers data rollover, so any unused data can be used for future trips.

    Flexiroam offers Data gifting (not just tethering). Taking your above scenario you could purchase as many SIMs as you want and share the Data Plan amongst your family or travelling party.

    Flexiroam offers far more cost effective Local Data Plans (great for short stays or stopovers) in many countries popular to Aussie traveller's. Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Italy, France, Austria, UK, Egypt, Israel, just to name a few.

    The 3 UK product the mail order SIM Card companies sell doesn't cover Canada or UAE, Qatar UAE is a popular stopover destination. It really sucks geetting a delayed flight, and not being able to use your Travel SIM.

    I guess what I'm saying is it's horses for courses really. There a stack of use cases in which they or a local SIM Card wll be a cheaper or better solution, but we believe we offer solid value in many others.

    It's not to say you couldn't use both either! We see ourslves as a nice to have in the kit bag. If I was a young backpacker I'd probably have Flexiroam to get me to that ultra cheap download pig SIM I could get locally, but each to his her own.

    I still believe for the average traveller that just wants to Uber, WhatsApp etc but mainly uses WiFi Flexiroam is killer value.

    It has been tough for all in the travel game for sometime now, and I think the mail order SIM Card companies unfortunately will face a battle as eSIM phones become the norm. Like Blockbuster and other industries that used to have physical products, their business models will be crushed.

  Hmm.. did anyone actually get their order fulfilled from this deal? Mine is still stuck processing and not getting an email or whatsapp (which is their online chat system) response.. don't want to lodge a PayPal dispute without giving them a chance.. but very close to it..
