  • Does anyone have this and can recommend? I was keen on it for multiplayer for the kids but I’ve read that the motion controls are not good. https://www.nintendolife.com/games/nintendo-switch/taiko_no_…

    • +8

There’s a free demo, so you can just give it a go if you’re on the fence.

    • +1

The controls took a little bit of getting used to, but it's definitely a fun game. The controls are either motion-controlled or button, from memory. I've only ever played the motion-controlled version.

    • +3

Isn’t the whole fun of these types of games, using the drum controller?

Like imagine playing Guitar Hero, with a control pad?

      • Now if only effing Konami does this for Beatmania DX….

    • +2

My kids reckon this is far more fun than Mario Party Superstars. I needed the English version as I only have the Japanese version so this is a good deal!

    • -1

Well worth it at under $15. Helps if you can read Japanese to navigate the menus etc.

      • +4

        It's in English dude.

  • +1

drum drum drum till you drop

  • +2

After practicing my virtual drumming using the joycon, I feel like i need to test out my skills on the real thing in the arcade.

    • it's definitely feels like a workout after playing Taiko at TimeZone. My arms hurt lol

      • +1

Ahh? Which TZ has Taiko? Nothing in Vic?

        • +1

There's a Japanese arcade unit in Fortress (Melbourne CBD). $2.50 per play.

        • I'm in Sydney, TZ Central Park and Chatswood have Taiko.

        • There's one in the arcade in Highpoint.

        • +1

There's a Taiko at Kingpin in Crown Melbourne (the old 'Galactic Circus')

  • +3

    Ahhhh I miss Donkey Konga

    • +3

I should pull it out of the cupboard!

  • +1

Thanks OP, I was looking for 2nd hand game for Taiko and this is great.

  • +1

As said in past, great game to play with touch controls.
Plus get a free DLC song every month if you play online, but online is pretty boring.

I can pretty much play "Train Train" with my eyes closed.

    • +1

You get a free song if you play online?? I've had this game for months and just play Undertale and Mario co op with the kids until our arms are sore lol. Is there a specific mode to play to get the freebies? I'll have to make sure to jump in to play a few games to get some bonus tracks if thats the case.

We got the Hori drum recently that's a lot of fun.

      • Yes each month has like a challenge board…win 10 games win a avatar, play 7 unique songs win a background ect.

      • +2

Hey mate just a heads up unfortunately the monthly online rewards have finished up now. December was the last month, it's not yet known if there is now any way to get those songs from online rewards.

There is still rewards from playing online, but it's just avatars/avatar backgrounds and before song /after song preset messages.

    • +1

Just as a heads up, the monthly online rewards have finished up now for the Switch version.

You can still play online as before, but now the only rewards are the incremental ones for raising your online rank points. These rewards are all player icons/messages, no songs I don't think.

The song rewards ran for 2 years I think and finished up in December. There isn't any word yet on how you can get the songs if you missed out, but going by the PS4 version, there isn't. Seems like if you missed out then you missed out.

Thanks a heap, I've been waiting for this since I missed the last price drop!

Did some research and the unbranded drum controllers are decent, albeit cheap feeling.
Some say sensitivity is actually better than the branded Hori controller.
If you want 2 drums for co-op this eBay listing is local stock with a discount applied at checkout making it $117.48 for 2 drums delivered ($58.74 each), which seems reasonable.

Thanks very much mate, you made my day

      • +1

No worries! I got 2 drums as well, so here is hoping they do the job :)

  • +2

Love this game. You can get a really good cheap knockoff drum controller from Ali Express too, my kids love it.

  • +1

Bunch of free DLC for it available here:

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/595600

I think possibly one or two more might be available now, worth a scan through of the DLC list if you pick up the game :-)

    • Thanks. Will add to the post

  • Do I need a TV for the motion controllers to work for the demo in 2 player mode? I can only play using the buttons :( I try to do the motion controller test but it only allows one controller to be connected at a time.

  • +1

you'll need a hori drum - but after that it's just non-stop fun!
one of the few games I actually pay for DLC (more song packs)

    • I was trying to find a good buy for that drum. So far the cheapest that I have seen is to buy from playasia, but the shipping cost is $50 :(

Is there any where else you would recommend?

      • I've bought it so long ago I've forgotten where I got it from :)

        might've been ozgameshop

but amazon have quite a few sellers too.

or check your local ebay guy?

        • Ahhh all good. I will try to look around local marketplace. Just that I have no high hope in finding one here in WA :(

If all else fails, I will try to get my Singapore buddy to ship one over.

Thank you for the suggestions :)

How the hell do you get both joycons to work on single player?

  • +1

Bought. Now I join everyone on the lookout for a cheap Hori drum.
