i purchased one of these over a year ago.. monitor now wont show anything thats connected too it, ive heard that this is a very common fault in these monitors. Dont get me wrong.. .they are beastly… just a good paper weight at the moment.

Try to contact the supplier and claim a warranty claim based on ACL?

      • +7

We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of messages this seller receives, they can't respond to your specific question right now. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing.

Ive tried. Its been about 1 year now since ive had it. seems that mi_official_store simply are too busy to look at it let alone recieve an email.

        very frustrated

        • -5

eBay is an another junk gate for China to the world. You cannot list your items cheaper than Chaaaina. I have moved to Amazon. At least there is a feel of some reputation with them.

          • +4

@ivegan: Not sure why you got negged… its true.

            • +1

@pharkurnell: Probably because in 99% of cases the same sellers on eBay also sell on Amazon.

I'll leave you to work out the reason for the irrational dislike.

              • @Diji1: It is the review process of Amazon and the return policy that I trust the most.
I don't care if they are the same sellers. It is the trust of reviewing items that you will be buying and make a rational view on before you hit buy.

where as eBay reviews are worse in the town.

        • +1

Fyi I previously contacted Xiaomi directly on FB messenger to enquire about their dead or stuck pixel warranty. They advised they provide a 2 year warranty (which covers even a single stuck pixel, in case anyone is interested in that specifically)

        • have you got ebay plus?

i had similar run around with Baseus Ebay with responses such as "sorry friend…" which typical of greeting messages from staff working in China… they were eventually non-responsive until I got eBay involved by calling them. it was a warranty claim as well which eventually got refunded in full…

    • +2

Oh, so sorry to hear, but these usually comes with 2 years warranty, Gearbite is selling with 2 years warranty. You should contact supplier.

      • +1

it says i cant contact them due to the amount of messages they receive… not sure where to go from here

        • +5

Threaten them with ACCC, then lodge complaint with ombudsman.

        • +15

Is it an eBay store and did you purchase through PayPal? You could raise a dispute and as part of your reasoning say you were unable to get in touch with the seller. They'd definitely respond to a dispute

          • +4

@Benjamin7711: And if they don't, you can escalate the dispute to PayPal to review.

            • @NobalaKoba: after 180 days.. timeframe to open a dispute

paypal no longer gives a shit about you..
and will tell you it is now a warranty issue and to deal with the manufacturer or seller..

              • @pinkybrain: PayPal has recently closed two disputes in my favour. Sellers didn't respond, so PayPal issued a refund and let me keep the items.

Good to see you're still around Pinky, hope you've been well :)

                • +1

                  @NobalaKoba: yeah still here..
                  same to you.

was your case past 180 days?

                  had an issue with paypal
and they told exactly likely in the example due to it being passed 180 days to open a dispute.

They also usually asked if it was working when first received the item..
if it was.. then they can't do anything since they say it is a warranty issue.. and they don't do warranty
so need to contact seller or manufacturer directly.

                  https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/Security-and-Fraud/Refun…

"I am afraid if it has been more than 180 days since you made the payment we wouldn't be able to look into this issue. This timeframe is outlined in our legal agreements and as such, we cannot investigate this transaction. We cap the timeframe for opening a buyer complaint to let sellers know that they should keep their postal information and other relevant transaction details for this period. We have found that in most cases 180 days is a sufficient timeframe for a buyer to notify PayPal that they have not received their item, or that there is a problem with the item that they have received. "

                  • @pinkybrain: Good to know, thanks for the additional info.

                    • @NobalaKoba: was your 2 cases within the 180 days timeframe or pass it?

yeah paypal moneyback guarantee sounds good in theory and it is for most of the time
except when it is passed 180 days timeframe..
then they asked if it was working at the time etc.. etc..

Gave me a reality check about how paypal moneyback guarantee really is in actual practice..

Essentially you only got 6 months to make any disputes with paypal and then your on your own..
and ebay only got 60 days etc..

So be very cautious about buying anything very expensive from sellers without a way to return it to a physical store or manufacturer.. etc..

You are basically at the mercy of that seller once paypal is no longer a threat to them..
So you may need to threaten with ACL etc.. but some seller may not give a shit etc.. or think most people won't go through with the complaint (which is true)..

                      • @pinkybrain: Within the 180 days.

Guess Amazon is still better for faulty products after a length of time then. Had them refund items after a year with no issues.

          • @Benjamin7711: Will it work with Paypal after 1 year of purchase ?

            • @EnALup: paypal almost always sides with the customer. especially for electronic devices like this that should clearly last more than 1 yaer. Moreso if 1 year is clearly within the warranty period

            • @EnALup: paypal only has a 180 days timeframe to open a dispute..
then they wash their hands of your problem..
and then tell you to deal with the seller or manufacturer directly.

              https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/Security-and-Fraud/Refun…

              • @pinkybrain: Thats what I was thinking and was confused if we can contact them after 1 year based on another comment.

                • @EnALup: yeah I learnt the reality of paypal moneyback guaranteed
when they told me like the example..
that is why buying very expensive items from ebay can be risky if you need to apply for warranty
and it is passed 180 days..

                  https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/Security-and-Fraud/Refun…

"I am afraid if it has been more than 180 days since you made the payment we wouldn't be able to look into this issue. "

You are essentially on your own to contact the seller and hope they are good seller and will do your warranty etc..
if not you may need to threaten them with ACL (which they may or may not give a shit about)
                  or contact the manufacturer directly..

Wait for a Dell eBay sale, and just get the Dell ultrawide: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/dell-s3422dwg

    Vastly better motion blur.

    • +2

Agree. Such a better monitor that the Xiaomi cannot compete.

    • +2

Something is off with how the Xiaomi handles motion. It does not look/feel like a 144hz panel at all.

      • +11

Correct, as it averages out at around 11ms response time, which combined with dark smearing for VA, makes for a blur fest.

I warned a lot of people, showed testing and evidence, and a lot of people shouted me down because they wanted to validate their impulse buy.

        • +1

Likewise. The echo chamber effect surrounding this monitor is crazy.

Any fast movement in games is horrible. And that damn gsync flicker drove me nuts.

          • +1

@wintermadness: Freesync flicker will be a given for Samsung/TCL panels, including the Dell, but once you're up at 144Hz+ it's less of a concern.

Run with it off, or maintain a minimum FPS above 60 with it on.

            • @jasswolf: competitive games can usually reach 100+ hz easily in which you may as well turn off VRR but a lot of single player games may have sudden drops to below 60 fps especially those poorly ported console games which may have limited fps in the in-game menus…

speaking of which, how is the blur with this Dell? i believe you owned/tried the Kogan/Xiaomi ones in the past?

Kogan and Xiaomi use similar Samsung panels which may exhibit blurs like when scrolling codes in dark mode/terminal clients etc… It didn't affect me in games though…

              • @meong: I used and returned a Kogan 16:9 monitor back in the day, but I'm familiar enough with testing methods and Samsung panels to know the Dell is part of a newer breed.

RTings don't do a lot of things right, but you can see the difference pretty clearly via this table: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/table/74944

The Nixeus model there would be the closest representation of the Xiaomi, but the dark smearing is a bit messier IIRC.

                • @jasswolf: The Kogan had so much similarity as the Nixeus (same stand and menu) which was a mess at 144hz… i think a lot of the older 144hz panels are actually overclocked 120hz…

have you tested the Dell as well? i'm keen to know how it performs based on your experience of how blurry the Kogan was… hopefully we can finally move on from the Xiaomi/Kogan/Nixeus batch of Samsung VA panels…

                  • @meong: You can see in the pursuit motion capture images that the blur is reduced substantially. There's dark smearing versus the Samsung G9 series, but that's an elite panel.

                    • @jasswolf: still not as good as actually seeing them in person though…

                      • @meong: You'd be hard pressed to find a retail store in Australia that has such monitors set up to demo fast-paced content. A lot of the time, they're never set above 60Hz.

HWU and TFTCentral now do response time testing that is a far closer approximation of human vision. You can trust their numbers.

                        • @jasswolf: of course, even before covid you barely get a demo of any gaming monitors… the ones that were demoed were running video loops on 60hz refresh rates…

it is just hard to rely on blur from rtings results, etc instead of actually inspecting in person… i've gone to IPS and noticed the difference immediately and probably wont be going to any cheap VAs for a while now… maybe my next monitor will be the upcoming AW 34 OLED…

    • Waiting for that S3422DWG to be on sale at $495, but does not seem like it will happen again :(

    • Do you have the Dell yourself? If so can you comment on the issues as stated here?
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/11339893/redir

      • I do not, but I've not been an advocate for Dell build quality for a long, long, long time. They've been trading on brand name. It's a no frills, drop-shipped, fast-assembled monitor, but it has a fantastic panel.

To quibble about the stand features on an ultrawide beyond the ability to rotate into portrait seems a bit wild to me, because they take up a fair bit of desk real estate. The Xiaomi stand is not great, and not worth this kind of debate at all. Daisy chaining is a niche feature beyond laptops being used to drive a multi-monitor setup.

VA ultrawides have been almost exclusively terrible for years, and the Dell is finally something decent. Don't set your standards lower.

      • I have the Dell 3220DGF, the predecessor monitor in 32” and it’s great. DPI can be a little low for all day office work (still works though) but otherwise great for gaming.

Deep blacks and the refresh rate still stands up under VA.

        • 11ms response time is not great for gaming unless there's not much motion going on …

          • @Diji1: Not sure exactly which monitor you're commenting on, but in case anyone follows up: those are HWU's timings for the Xiaomi, not the Dell. The Dell would be more in the range of 5ms, despite dark smearing.

          • @Diji1: The Dell is far lower than 11ms

    • How does this monitor compare with an S2721QS for work (and occasional gaming)?

      • You mean the Dell ultrawide? Not ideal for document work, not good for colour accurate work (due to less consistency), way better for gaming.

      • All I can say is I've had the Xiaomi for 1 year as my main home office monitor (and gaming when I can) and it's still going strong and I'm very happy with it. Got it for $450 from Kogan and I don't notice the curve at all while I work.

    • Yea….nah

      • +4

        Outstanding points.

  • +1

There is just something about VA panels that feels off… I thought I gotten used to a VA panel when I used my 32” dell monitor for almost a year but then I got my hands on an ultrawide IPS and the colours on the IPS just blew away the VA

    • -1

IPS looks more life like, more of the time ie well lit scenes.

      • +1

what is 'more life like' even supposed to mean - i didnt neg you. but have no idea what you are referring to

  • +2

I bought at $599 2 years ago amidst the thick of the pandemic. Still going strong today! Very happy with the purchase, have used it with a macbook and razerblade 14 via USB C - DisplayPort 1.4, works perfectly :)

  • +2

Beware there is no button to quick switch video sources - you will need to shut off the video via software for the monitor to switch to the other display (e.g. put to sleep) automatically or go through 4+ button presses to change the source.

Apart from that, nice screen realstate. I don't game so 120hz is just for my scrolling pleasure.

  • Great for Excel work and occassional gaming. Annoyed by having a lack of a source button to switch inputs.

I also have a PS4 connected to this and it doenst support 21:9 so there are two black bars on the side. I also wish it had HDR as the PS4 graphics looks washed out compared to hooking it up on a TV.

    • Yea having a ps4 connected to it will makes it feel like a 24" monitor hey

  • +3

Yes, it's not IPS, yes it's been max like $30 cheaper… etc

Love this monitor as a daily and for work. 11/10. The ultrawide is really practical for multitasking.
The built in menu is a bit clunky but that's all I can fault.
Had over a year now and just works perfectly.
No built in speakers but has 3.5mm speaker output and just connected to PC speakers anyway..

If you're going to get a monitor arm for it make sure you get a strong one. Recently bought the North Bayou f100a and it now works like a dream and easy to move around once you've got the gas struts adjusted to the right level.

  • -2

    IPS or nothing

    • +5

Only if you loves the bad black levels and lower contrast on IPS

      • -2

Honestly, the pros outweigh the cons

        • For gaming where response time is important, yes. I'd prefer VA for productivity and some media consumption, though.

          • @nigel deborah: Current VA tech has better overall response times. IPS is falling into third place right now, soon fourth with OLED/QD-OLED.

            • @jasswolf: Take your word for it. I shohld have said this particular monitor.

  • +2

I bought this over a year ago (Dec 2020 I believe) when Kmart had them for $450 (thanks OzB). Just here to say that it's running strong ever since.

I don't do much gaming, but do lots of Excel and browser work, and this is the centre piece of a three-monitor set-up (one basic panel in vertical, the other a laptop, either side). I do intend to game, one day… :'-)

  • +2

So I run 2 of these side by side. Just a heads up, first one I got from MI eBay store was AU version and great colours. Got my 2nd last month from gearbyte and it's the Chinese version and monitor is alot darker. Tried every setting, tried different calibrations and can't get any of them to come close. Just a heads up for those with orders from Kmart, mi etc.

  • I like mine. But sound from laptop speakers is affected when using this monitor. Sounds hollow and tinny. Don’t know why.

    • Yeah the sound pass through in monitors that are usually trash quality.

Can't you set your laptop speakers to default instead of "mi monitor"

  • Great monitor for value and functions.

  • +1 for gearbite, best customer support

    • Are you kidding?

      • He is probably a Gearbite employee…

        • I have a dead pixel on my monitor, not a huge deal but kinda sucks when it's like 6 months old.

Contacted Gearbite and they offered for me to either send it back in, or a $100 refund and I just deal with the pixel.

I asked to send it back in but they stopped replying after that lol.

  • I also have it for over a year and I think it's a great office unit, especially for the price!
BTW. Video calls with a full size screen presentations and the crowd plus chat on the side in the 'wide screen section' are the best! (Applies to all ultra wide screens ;) )

  • +1 for office unit if primary use. I've played Crysis 1-3 on this and found it to be solid (I'm a part timer, so the smearing/lag/issues mentioned above etc. I didn't really notice). Have this as main and Kogan 1440p 24" vertically for documents. Great WFH setup. Got PS5 and 4k Foxtel running through Dell 4k 27" off to side (can't do 120hz but most of what I play is 4k60).

  • Got 2 for daily use, gaming and office work. No complaints here.. bang for Buck!

  • +1

off-topic but any idea when the Alienware 38" will likely go on sale again? Waiting on that one kind of desperately, this is tempting in the meantime but would rather just wait…

    • hodl up, let me check with my crystal ballz

      • Thanks! Can you also give me the lotto numbers? Thanks :D

PS the deal is currently on. 1750 on Dell site. Not great but can be stacked

  • screen player's field of view, especially in RTS and FPS games, the field of vision is extremely wide

Partly true but in many cases FOV is actually reduced for FPS titles depending on how game calculates FOV.

  • +1

Bought this on November from eBay for 449$, why the price increased now..

  • Got one last year from ebay, great monitor, running strong.

  • +1

Seems like more people are recommending the Dell 34 Curved Monitor S3422DWG over this, due to its build quality, I better wait for the Dell one then..

Or is it better to go down the PRISM+ XQ340 PRO path?

  • Any recommendations for a flat one? I get dizzy from curves…

    • can it pivot 90deg vertical?

    • First time I heard that, how about LG IPS panel?

  • Anyone use one of these on a stand?
I'm wondering if something like the nb h80 would be strong enough to support and raise it up.

Kinda wanna try and lift this up and fit another monitor underneath, but not if it's gonna cost much

    • I have the non-gas one it works fine. I did need to manually tighten horizonal screw as the weight of the monitor was just slight tilting it.

    • i bought this monitor for my gf and i, both running NB H100s (as its a 34" screen). i prefer the pipe set up (https://www.amazon.com.au/NB-Monitor-Motion-Swivel-Computer/…)

rather than the gas-strut as you get a better range of motion. highly recommend
