Low endurance of 80TBW (3yrs warranty) was mentioned in an earlier post of this drive.

Probably better off buyign the WD blue with its 600TBW (5yrs warranty) endurance rating.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Western-Digital-WDS100T2B0C-2400MB…

    Even the low-end Crucial P1 ($109) comes with a 200TBW/5yrs warranty.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Crucial-CT1000P1SSD8-Acronis-Cloni…

    • The P1 seems to come also with the Acronis True Image Cloning Software, anyway try it? hopefully it does the job

I have been using Acronis for years, it has been great for cloning drives, never used it for anything more though

        • I have hardware cloning devices though one can't clone from sata to nvme (I have 2 devices for each type) and can only clone to same size drive or bigger,.

so can this software clone between sata and nvme, does size matter of drives/partition? Of course can clone boot partitions?

          Also reasonably fast cloning?

          • @Italkdigital: It can clone different size drives, pretty sure you can mess with partition size as well while doing it
I can't remember for sata to nvme, I did have to do that once but I might have had to source another software.
Speed to me is fine, I use an old version that requires you to boot into Acronis off a USB, not sure if there is a windows based option now

      • Yes, it’s decent trouble free software.

    • Thanks, bought the Crucial P1 for $94 with a $15 voucher.

    • Crucial P1 similar prices at eBay though no mention of Acronis True Image Cloning Software, need to use code PJAN20 for 20% off and PJAN22 for 22% off for eBay plus members comes out to be,..
$148 − $32.56 = $115.44 including free postage, if one wants to use up there eBay vouchers (maybe me)

Edit: actually description states Acronis True Image Cloning Software

That's SATA, this is M.2 NVMe.

Saves one buying a caddy for the NVMe 😁

But what about the speed difference between SATA and NVMe???

  • $115 @ Centrecom with free delivery if it works out the same?

  • Im thinking of starting to snaffle up these cheap bits as I see them on OzB and get ready for when GPU's reduce in price in June 2022 (as some people have forecasted).

    • Got any links to the forecasts? I'm sure will be interesting reading, time to get rid of my 3070 master

      • On my Android Phone, Google pushes stories to me regarding GPU's and I dont have any links currently handy but there were a couple of stories that combined future mining being less profitable, increased supply, Intel entering the game and the RTX4 series putting a downward pressure on prices.

However this has been predicted before and it may not happen. But there was an article that I read that 95% of mining was for ETH and the move from POW to POS will be the main factor putting a downward pressure.

Take all this with a grain of salt. GPU price discussion is the modern day equivalent of real estate price discussion.

      • It sounds like Nedski is banking on etherium moving over to proof of stake for mining, which should push a lot of miners out of the game - have personally seen mining rigs start to pop up on gumtree and facebook market place. We should see a dip pretty soon.

        • Considering the previous delays, it's a mistake to bank on it happening IMO. Yes etherium devs say they are on track now, given their testnet etc but who knows? And even if it does happen, we can't be sure it'll lead to a lot lower GPU prices. Not saying you should buy a GPU at current crazy prices, but also don't think you should assume prices are going to be a lot lower in the middle of the year. I'm particularly not sure it's a good idea to be buying SSDs to under the assumption you'll be using them with future price drops on GPUs since NAND prices are predicted by some to be lower in the short term/Q1 of 2022 and so and so SSD prices may follow. Although again not saying you should wait because it'll happen. It could be for some reason in 3 months we'll be saying 'can't believe prices were so low in January'. But if you aren't really using them now, but may use them when GPU prices drop, well then…..

I would start buying up parts within the same year that you plan on buying the GPU. Its pretty painful buying kit and seeing it become obsolete before you even get a chance to install it(know this from first hand experience lol).

I agree. Like im looking at the RTX3080Ti prices currently and I would be happy to pay that much as it will last me the next 4 or so years (thats how long my last card lasted me), however I am happy to gamble that prices will go down further in the next few months. Until then I can happily game on my GTX1650 in my laptop. Currently working my way through Deus Ex Mankind Divided.

  • I’m looking forward to 4TB NMVe’s to hit the $200 mark, which is my sweet spot for a NAS disk. While the 4TB Reds I’ve had in my two-bay Synology have been super stable for over five years, the speed and power benefits would far outweigh the endurance concerns if solid state keeps dropping over time.

I’m surprised there aren’t more SSD NAS products available outside of the NVR market.

I’m looking forward to 4TB NMVe’s to hit the $200 mark,

      Wait a few years

      • lol keep dreaming, the 2tb NMVe ones aren't at that price yet.

  • Is it fast enough for ps5?

    • definatlly no. you need to go to sonys website and look up the requirements GEN 4 ONLY nothing else. just be 5000mbps or above.

    Hi Guys, I have a B560m DS3H AC Mobo.

I have 1TB NVME already installed which is the boot drive and using for games too. There is a second slot too, is it as simple as just plugging this in and then formatting the disk one you log in?

    Thank you.

    • Yes

      • +1

        Thanks mate! :)

        • Just don't format the wrong one lolz, umm not sure if these are already formatted anyway, so just insert and maybe away you go

  • its not a bad price and will be good for games and stuff for sure.

  • Just a general question as an external drive for M1 Mac Mini. Will be used as storage for pre/post edited 4K action cam/phone videos, etc,

Which will perform better, an M.2 NVMe SSD + enclosure OR a Samsung T7?

    • Nvme - better speed

  • Sont suppose this would work on ps5…? Anyone know a cheap ssd that would? Thank you
