For those interested, you may want to do a bit of homework. But then again most manufacturers have recalls on various issues.

So among the recalled VINs, there is 1% chance that the reversing camera stops working. How awful.

thanks picked up 3, looks like still on stock

For the Greenies out there thinking about buying a Fully EV for the environment, this article is an interesting read

Toyota has sold more than 240,000 hybrid vehicles since the original Prius arrived in 2001.

“According to our calculations, those 240,000 hybrids have had the same impact on reducing CO2 as approximately 72,000 BEVs,” Callachor said.

“Yet the volume of batteries we’ve used to produce these hybrid-electric vehicles is the same as we’d need for just 3500 BEVs.

“In other words, we can say that the batteries needed for 3500 BEVs have been used to achieve the CO2 emissions reduction effect of 72,000 BEVs.

“It means that HEVs are an extremely effective way of reducing carbon emissions today – and doing so at a comparatively affordable price.”

What's never taken into account with plugin hybrids is how much owners never bother plugging them in.
Regardless, claimants of EVs being bad for the environment never do an apples v apples comparison, by looking at oil from point of extraction

      • Appears you have mis-read the article as the Toyota vehicles referred to in the article for the comparison against Full EV's are not plug-in hybrids (i.e. Toyota Prius)

        • Then even more disparate

    • +1

Yes, I get all my news about the environment from News Ltd (no explanation required) and Toyota (the third worst in lobbying against climate policies).

  • +1

Tbh, the model 3 is starting to look pretty regular on the road. Are they even cool anymore? I’d rather be cool.

    • +2

They have air con and windows…you can still be cool driving one.

      • Eww.. Who drives with their windows down? Its scary outside.

    • Greens support sticker on the back window & arm out the window holding takeaway coffee cup with one of either 'almond', 'soy' or 'vegan' written on it. You're all good.

    • regular

  • I wonder if model 2 in 2023 will be the real price mover? Supposed to be 25KUSD so around 40K AUD. Interesting times ahead for EV.

  • +2

It seems the model 3 long range, red paint, white interior is over the 78K NSW stamp duty refund limit.

    Deal breaker for me :/

    • -1

It might come down in price.. Hang on my electric friend.

      • +1

Yer, I’m planning to buy a new or near new EV car in 4.75 years time.

I want under 50k, over 400km, AWD and under 5s.

        So, yep I’m hanging on.

(A 4 year old long range model 3 will probably fit the criteria except the newness).

        • What would the resale price be if you had it for another 3 years (I guess depreciation) . My guess would be pretty low wouldn’t it.

    • -1

      Sounds like a bargain cough

      • Yes. If it comes down in price it's a bargain. :)

Interesting how the original post has now "deleted" any reference to price drop as opposed to closing the thread 😱

Just noticed a —- price —- for the 2022 RWD Model 3 drive away pricing thanks to VIC ZEV Subsidy ($3,000)

How long is the wait for delivery?

    • 14-20 weeks according to their website.

      • +1

I placed an order because of this deal post. What have you (I?) done??

The irony - Tesla is also the most popular brand by those who own them. This is what lecturers are using in Marketing 101 at Universities to teach about the power of marketing on human beings.

@[Deactivated]: They need more people to pay up for FSD so Elon has enough money to try to make it work. Otherwise easy to run out of money when your programmers are paid upwards of $200k a year.

            • +2

@netjock: Programmers who do ground breaking work should be paid more. 200k is a joke. These people are writing code that will take @andy99 to his doctors appts in the future.

Even pensioners in this country are getting 22k per year.

Maybe also psychology lecturers on Stockholm syndrome. Held hostage now they double down.

I still enjoy the idea Tesla owners get to charge for free from their solar panels but they would never tell me the deal for free panels.

          • +2

@netjock: Not sure on free panels but I got panels 2 years ago. 11k. so far my electricity bill is +$1000. ROI will be about 5 years then it's all profit for you up $500 per year depending on electricity prices.

I can has solar panels for free in about 5 years. Then I will get paid $500 per year for having them. That's bout right to cover an electric vehicular charge if I had one.

            • +1

              @Naigrabzo: Need free up front.

It is like saying I pay $60k for a Tesla and get to drive for free. No you don't.

Also don't forget 6.6kw (in Melbourne) only general 24kwh a day. You need to be at home for 2 days+ to full charge your batteries. Provided you don't use any of it for yourself.

              • +1

@netjock: Nah man. I am talking $1000 dollars in my bank. I can pay for anything I want including electricity as market rate.

I don't care nor have a home battery.

                  @Naigrabzo:

So basically a Tesla model 3 in 124 years.

Think Tesla fans are just obviously obtuse with the facts.

              • +1

@netjock: EV owners don't wait until their EV battery gets down to 0% and then fully charge it to 100%. So you wouldn't need to sit and charge for 2 days.

                • -2

@chuq: ICE owners don't always wait until tank is empty to fill up so what is your point?

24kwh a day on 6.6kwh system. 3kwh per hour. 14kwh use per 100kms for a model 3. Average distance driven in Australia is 11k/Kms a year which is 30kms a day. Sit on the solar charger for an hour+ a day just so you can pretend you drive for free. 11k/Kms a year is probably low end for a Tesla driver. You'd need to drive a lot more to make the cheaper energy price work.

You are another one with a smart obtuse facts.

    • Haters are gonna hate.

  • Thanks, already looking at another Tesla to increase the size of my bitcoin mining fleet.

Are Electric Cars Really Better for the Environment? (Wall Street Journal)
    https://www.wsj.com/graphics/are-electric-cars-really-better…

It takes ~32,000 KM for the Tesla to have paid back the carbon deficit they start with, compared with ICE cars. After that, the Tesla improves over the ICE with reduced emissions per / km

What isn't discussed is the 540KG toxic Lithium Ion batteries per Tesla.

While ICE batteries are small and largely recycled, lithium-ion batteries are enormous and recycled in only about 5 per cent of cases. The battery in Tesla’s fast sports car, the Model S, weighs 540kg and includes more than 7000 separate lithium cells.

Most used lithium-ion batteries are buried in landfill, where they can easily catch fire and also leech toxic elements into the soil and water table. They can be melted down and the cobalt and nickel extracted but that smelting process is energy intensive and polluting in most countries.

Avg Australian Car Sales are ~ 1M
As the EV ages and the battery degrades to unusable (approx. 8 years), that will be 1M x 560KG toxic Lithium Ion batteries going to landfill each year

This would all be very interesting if climate change was real, and not a gigo computer model. After searching for 20 years I have yet to see one shred of credible evidence for the hypothesis.

      • -4

What can you expect when Left Wing Greenie Nutters deface a National Memorial on Australia Day

      • I don't doubt climate change is real. Being on earth is like being in a big air tight room and they keep on removing the trees and adding people. At some point it is going to get hot and low on oxygen.

The fact that driving a Tesla makes it alright to go on as business as usual is just Elon telling porkies.

Elon bought $3bn of Bitcoin then claimed to not know about how environmentally damaging mining is? If he was a poor pensioner that didn't speak English. Elon could have walked into the software developer lab yelled out the question and got the crowd sourced answer in like under a minute.

        • -1

You're right, I should have said anthropogenic climate change. Climate change has been occurring for millions of years, far longer than man has been around. At the start of the last ice age the amount of co2 in the atmosphere was 10 times what it is now.

    • Lets not discount all the toxic chemicals that are produced in the lifecycle of running an ICE car. In response to your article above, please find https://www.france24.com/en/tv-shows/revisited/20210702-poll…

  • So checking the site because of Victoria’s on road costs, the EV rebate ends up only about $1k cheaper than Qld with no EV rebate.
