Do you ask petrol car manufacturers how much it costs to rip out and rebuild the engine? You won't need to replace the battery.

      • Will we not need to ever replace the battery because the rest of the car will fall apart before that point?

        • +3

My WRX engine was regularly maintained, and blew at 60,000kms. Cost over $12k to replace out of warranty. Bought car for $42k.

          • -1

@onlinepred: 30%. WRX you expeckt the engine to blow because people drive em like they stole em. Also Subaru are hardly known for their reliability.

            • @Naigrabzo: I bought it new. Agreed that Subaru aren't known for their reliability. Still insane they get away with it though.

      • 6:40 - that was insane

    • I asked that question a few weeks back in the dealership, the rep said around 8k. I thought considering that wasn't too bad. Battery prices should only go down as scale ramps up.

    • The more pertinent question is the price of repair parts, particularly out of warranty. From my reading Tesla keep a tight hold on repairs, so you're unlikely to be able to do any DIY.

  • +4

pumping petrol $1.9L yesterday, this does not look that bad tbh once you consider the retarded fuel prices and how volatile they are. if you have solar panels this thing will charge up for free. my only concern to this day is the iffy build quality

    • +1

The build quality could be an issue I agree. The warranty is also shockingly short. the latter is my main and only gripe.

      • +2

Build quality on the cars coming out of Giga Shanghai is fine. Check one out in person.

        Battery warranty is 8 years.

        • Are you worried on 4 year car warranty? I suppose Toyota is only 5. Hyundai 7.

      • i love kia and their unlimited 7 year warranty, it really speaks volumes about the confidence to offer that for your product.

    • Have a look for yourself rather than believe some random guy on twitter. Tesla is not without issues but show me a car company with no issues?

    • +1

The stories of iffy build quality come from the earlier Fremont-made cars - all Australian models have come from Shanghai since Dec 2020 and the quality has been great.

      • thats not true, I'm seeing 2022 models on YouTube of owner reviewers showing the issues, granted they got them fixed at the dealer, but why does one have to go through the trouble of sending the car back for fixes, seems like they are spending more money fixing these issues after delivery vs just having better QC in the factory.

    • So you charge your car when the sun is shining and you're out for the day?

      • How can you do that? :P It will have to drive back home on it's own. Maybe in 15 years. ie 2035 ish.

      • if you drive 500km a day, yes you are correct. i imagine %99 percent of people dont drive 500km a day, including myself

  • +1

I thought this had been the price of SR+ for some time now?

  • -2

    Thanks, I bought 2!

  • +3

So when is the model Y coming?? There's been some talk but nothing yet. Wouldn't consider Model 3 because we would need one bigger car.

    • The model 3 has a surprising amount of room for a sedan due to not having a lot of undercarriage parts an ICE car does. The model Y though would be lucky to be here this year, I'd guess next year.

      • I agree but after going from a sedan to a hatchback, the space is much more usable for the occasional large item that needs to be transported.

      • The model 3 has a surprising amount of room for a sedan

The problem is ride height. Once you get used to stepping straight in and out of your car without having to do half a squat each time there's no going back.
There's a reason that mid-size SUVs are the top selling format vehicle here.

        • Rav4 is the top selling SUV and it has less headroom then the model 3 and a lot hatchbacks

          • @nephilim:

Rav4 is the top selling SUV and it has less headroom

Who mentioned anything about headroom? The height of the seat relative to the ground makes ingress/egress much easier, and the higher seating position gives greater visibility.

    • Model Y: $75k minimum.

    • Get a Rav4 2022 - about $45k and add model 3 as second.

      • I asked few days ago, RAV4 est delivery is 12 months

        • DAMN!!! by the time they deliver, petrol will be obsolete. :) :)

  • any links for 10% giftcards

  • +5

There's been no change to the price of the car. This doesn't necessitate a new post.

    • -3

      Ok

  • +3

Came here for hilarious jokes, and am sorely disappointed.

However the repeated 'thanks bought 5' jokes have me rolling.

    • +3

      Rolling my eyes.

  • +1

I cant see the bargain here

  • Is this one of those high-yield investment deals?

    • Definitely even Elon tweets about them…if he tweets u must buy right?

  • whats the warranty on the car and battery?

      • +4

        cheers

4 year basic car warranty… and then 8 years on battery and drive train … thats not bad.

        Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive
8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period.
        Model 3 Long Range
        Model 3 Performance
8 years or 192,000 km, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period.

        • 4 year warranty is concerning. This is my main gripe.

          • @Naigrabzo: should be 5

but its a sign a company knows they have hot shit and they know they can cheap out on some things because their buyers can rationalise it

            • @tonyjzx: I mean ford and toyota have 5, so are you implying they have slightly better hot shit than Tesla, but still hot shit?

              • @onlinepred: what is the market cap of tesla vs them

                theres your answer

  • -1

any cashback by cashrewards or shopback?

  • Wasn't the MY22 changes made public in Nov 2021?

The base price before on roads looks unchanged at <$60k…..where's the savings from?

so is the deal the free mats and heated elements?

    • +3

Yeah I think this has been the price since late last year.

    • +1

Correct me has this deal been posted before for the RWD 2022 model?

      • Yep https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/637111

Tesla usually doesn't go by model years, they seem to change what they offer when they feel like it.

For example, if you order now, you'll get the upgraded MCU. But they don't list that anywhere in their website.

      • technically a different model (model 3 vs model 3 SR+ previously) but in reality, you're getting a slower car, with some very minor range and interior changes for the same price

        • I think people will start getting the Ryzen powered MCU if you place an order now. So faster centre console when opening up youtube/netflix etc.

    • +1

Free mats have been standard since the start of 2021 I think. You also used to get heated front seats + you had to pay to unlock the heated rear seats. Looks like heated rear seats are standard now with a new heated steering wheel.

      • Previous buyers of MY21 cars also got the heating activated for free AFAIK

        • I can't find any info on this. May I ask where is this from? Thanks.

          • @8at8: Have a look on TeslaMotorsClub forum.

  • What’s the price on the model X? Are the wait times accurate?

    • +1

There is no price or ETA for model X or S at the moment. You won't have one until the new models hits the market in RHD. Only M3 is available for purchase atm.

      • They are still taking orders on their website though?

        • +1

You are only paying $350 with no final price or ETA. So it's pretty much reserving your position.

  • in nsw u dont get any ev incentive benefits going through novated lease do you?

    • No $3000 rebate if you are honest.

  • +3

In the ACT, there is no stamp duty and you get 2 years free rego on zero emissions vehicles if the vehicle is purchased in the ACT.

    • 2k saved on rego?

      59k base price.

      15k interest free loan???

      • +2

The 15k interest free loan does not apply to Tesla (at least not yet).
        As per the website:
        https://brighte.com.au/marketplace/electric-vehicles/electri…

There are currently only 5 dealers (new EV) in which the 15k interest free loan can apply for. Further, I'm not sure how it works if you do end up getting a EV and the 15k loan - because obviously most electric cars would be over the 15k. I assume the best case scenario is that they give you the 15k interest free loan which you can put towards your EV and use your own bank to get a cheap loan/pay off balance in cash. 15k interest free loan + Tesla 2.99% financing would be a decent outcome.

I've searched as to whether Tesla will eventually get onto the $15k scheme but found no such info.

        • Daim! dissapointed.

  • Phone is fine?

  • +2

Can we up the number of negative votes in a 24 hour period? I used mine up on the un-funny "I bought 5" jokes.

  • +3

    significant price drop

    What is the drop?

    • What is the drop?

Mine is Johnnie Walker Double Black.

      What's yours?

    • +1

Another $3000ish drop compare to last month

      • +2

No its not, I Put an order last month for $$63,543 (includes $1500 upgrade).. comes out cheaper than this deal. should get the car by end of Feb. the rebate was i available than as well

        • what color options did you go for? i think if i was in the market, id go for black color, to match with the all black trim, also black seats (white too OCD)

  • -7

If you believe the global warming stuff, then realise that 80% of electricity in the grid comes from coal and gas.
Given the losses in the distribution system, charge and discharge, toxic battery production and waste etc, electric vehicles are not helping.
A small petrol engine is far better as heat is turned to energy on the spot.

Like many things though it's not black and white, they have their upsides. Electric cars are better in stop-start traffic, and transfer fumes from urban areas to power stations.

Electric vehicles are tracked at all times though so enjoy that.

    • +4

      Source?
Everything I read says that an EV charged with coal is still better for the environment over the life of the car.

      • +4

deep down i couldnt give a flying shit about all that

all i want is to not pay $1.90 for petrol

all this posturing by people but really, that's what it comes down to

        • Until they begin charging taxes on every km you drive.

          • @[Deactivated]: theyre doing that now

it comes to about $400 for 20,000km in nsw vic

i'd be ecstatic paying that once off versus $1,90 per

but you might like filling up

        • all i want is to not pay $1.90 for petrol

Even if it cost you $2?

      • +1

        its true

whats more efficient? one coal fired plant or millions of petrol engines?

even if you're using coal to power your EVs you're still ahead

        • +1

whats more efficient? one coal fired plant or millions of petrol engines?

          coal

    • +3

A small petrol engine is far better as heat is turned to energy on the spot.

do you think your car runs like a steam engine? its not the 'heat' being turned into energy, and 'on the spot' isnt accurate unless you mined the oil from under your car

what do you think the losses are on both oil->petrol conversion and delivery to your local petrol station, plus then conversion from fuel -> rotational motion of your engine are?

      • That first line alone deserves more upvotes! :)

    • +2

      fake news

      https://www.semanticscholar.org/paper/Approach-to-High-Effic…

thermodynamic efficiency is leagues apart. Remember that internal combustion engines only have peak efficiency at certain, specific RPMs and trail off dramatically at other times, like traffic or when the engine isn't at operating temperature.

Also, as I understand, EVs owners typically charge their car at night, where marginal increases in load have a small impact on the amount of new fuel used (below baseload), or rooftop PV, where net carbon has already been captured in the manufacture and installation and the marginal gains are essentially zero carbon.

This article will help you understand the carbon lifecycle of IC engines vs. electric motors. The difference in Australia isn't as significant as it is in countries with a higher renewable %, but this will change with constant investment in renewable generation whereas your ICE will not. If you use rooftop solar, the difference is enormous.

      tracking lol

    • +1

Your phones are tracked also. And btw, thousands of private companies know your name and your home address. So enjoy that?

Our work car is a Model 3, we charge it from solar on the work roof. We spent $92 in a year on electricity/maintenance on the Tesla. Meanwhile our i30 cost $1987 in petrol, $310 in maintenance in the same year. Fun fun!!!

  • My mechanic won't be happy.

    • +3

Did he pay full price ?

    • He can still replace brakes every few years.

      • +3

If you drive it right then the brakes could last the life of the car, they are almost never used.
Tyres and the internal air filter is probably all that needs doing every few years.

  • +3

I got one of these in December and they let me pay the balance (the part I wasn't financing) with my crypto.com debit card and I got 3% back.

  • +1

I don't think this is a price drop, the Subsidy has been there a while now.
This subsidy has a limit so Tesla can't advertise the drive away price inc subsidy.
I ordered one last year and looking at the invoice the cost is the same.
Only thing I noticed is that the stamp duty now has increased slightly.

  • Can these do Vehicle to Home yet? Or is that purely based on the wall charger we decide to buy?

    • No and never will as the current M3 charging circuitry does not have the reverse charging capability.

      • +3

Guess I will have to wait longer then. Thanks.

Plus we need a better Qld EV incentive.
