Wow Perth to Bali flights have gotten so expensive!

    • +3

suspect once WA opens up more, more airlines will add competition. Fingers crossed!

  • +7

Please be aware that Jetstar and Qantas require "proof of recovery" 7 days prior to departure, meaning if you do catch COVID while overseas, you have to first follow the local quarantine rules, get a negative PCR test and then submit a proof of recoery to Jetstar/ Qantas 7 days prior to departure.

Stories are emerging of people stuck in other countries because of this additional 7 days rule and airlines unable to process documents in time.

Qantas are changing the medical clearance this week to be “show at airport”

Qantas also confirmed on Friday it was working to lift its requirement that passengers submit medical documents seven days before their scheduled flights, which for some stranded customers meant a wait of 21 days before they could fly home after catching the virus.

“We are looking at removing the requirement for people flying into Australia to submit their medical clearance seven days before travel and instead have their documents verified at the airport before their flight,” a Qantas spokesman said. “We hope to have this in place next week.”

  • +7

there are thousands of people stranded because of the PCR test bullshit

    • nsw you can have a rapid or a pcr test to fly into sydney even from overseas

      • PCR before you return, then RAT on say 1 and 6 in NSW

        • +5

nope . rules changed from today .

"Australia has announced big changes to its international arrivals, no longer requiring overseas travellers to produce a negative PRC test and will instead accept a RAT result.

Current regulations require overseas travellers to return a negative PCR test taken up to three days before their flight, but from 1am on Sunday, arrivals can instead provide a negative RAT from within 24 hours of boarding."

          • @thecouch: So does the RAT test instead of PCR test apply to both inbound and outbound as well ?

            • @LayG: outbound would depend on country your off to

            • +1

@LayG: Yes, however the RAT test must be “supervised” and documented which still costs a lot more than the price of a RAT from the supermarket. Current price in LA is $80 USD so over $100 AUD per person.

              • +1

@stirlo: Now Ozbargain community can have a competition finding the cheapest way getting of “supervised” BYO RAT test overseas which would allow to return to Australia.

    • We need to get rid of testing for vaccinated people

      • +7

That might turn lots of people off. I'm not keen in paying for a flight where positive cases are spreading covid on the flight

        • That could be the case anyway…. tests are not fullproof, and you could become infectious between the time of test and time of flight.

It's stupid, should be treated the same was as any other virus like a cold, flu, etc.

          • @Starcraftmazter: Yea nah, it's killing way more people in the world than a cold or flu. And that's ignoring long covid effects. I think vaccination and a negative test is the least we should expect from a flight given how easy it is to spread it on a flight, no open space etc.

        • +1

I'm not keen in paying for a flight where positive cases are spreading covid on the flight

Haha that is already happening. The tests are a clumsy measure and give a false sense of security. I know 3 different people that tested negative, then tested positive immediately after flying.

        • +1

Take a look around, it’s not 2021 anymore. I laugh thinking about QLD staying closed when NSW had 1 case, how the times have changed.

Also it doesn’t spread easily on a flight. People have this idea that you are packed into a small space, the air filtration works.

People are also in just as busy environments as aircraft: trains, cinemas, theatres, pubs and clubs, churches. None of those places need a negative test.

      • We need to get rid of testing for vaccinated people

Just get rid of testing altogether. Since viral loads are the same whether you are vaccinated or not, why does it matter?

        • -2

It might be time for it. It certainly isn’t doing anything if 33/36 people who die are fully vaccinated.

I really don’t think this is the year to travel overseas for leisure purposes. Seems to be just too much trouble.

We are doing Cairns later this year and will revisit anything overseas next year.

    • +1

Some will travel overseas, some won't.

    • +4

Dude these deals are in Oct can you relax still 10 months away. Lots can change.

      • +6

We said that this time last year.

Australians cant land in Denpasar AFAIK?

Who can arrive DIRECTLY in Bali and follow quarantine in Bali?
According to the latest update by the government, NATIONALS with following PASSPORTS are allowed to take flights directly to Bali. All other nationals have to arrive in Jakarta and follow quarantine there.

    1. Bahrain 8. Kuwait 15. Saudi Arabia
    2. China 9. Norway 16. Spain
    3. Hungary 10. New Zealand 17. Sweden
    4. India 11.Poland 18. UAE
    5. Italy 12. Portugal
    6. Japan 13. Qatar -
    7. Liechtenstein 14. South Korea

India, Spain, Poland…..tf? these countries are safer than us?

    • +1

Yeah, it's a bit shit taking us to Jakarta first then to Bali.

    • Yeah nah they must be hoping we can by March?

      • Lombok is hosting the Moto GP in March. Apparently Bali will open to accommodate these tourists (and hopefully all) as they have the most capacity.

        Nothing is ever confirmed though

    • +4

Yes, we have one of the highest Covid rates per capita in the world right now. Higher than the US, and they provide 4x RATs free per household, we don't.
How people don't know this, I'll never know.

      • Mmmm…. Not so sure.

        https://www.9news.com.au/world/coronavirus-australia-rats-ra…

        United States
US President Joe Biden said the federal government will buy half a billion rapid test kits and distribute them free of charge to people to use at home.
But the administration is still working on details for how the program will work, such as how many tests people will be able to get at once.
The first delivery is not expected until this month.
The government is planning a website for people to use to request tests once they're more widely available.
RATs are currently available from pharmacies but just after Christmas NPR reported similar issues to what Australia has been experiencing with widespread shortages and tests costing US$7–US$15 ($9.70–$20.70) each.
Other reports have cited much higher prices.

        https://www.theverge.com/22889745/rapid-covid-tests-free-web…

I suppose we shall see if and when they get mailed out.

        • Why are you reading weeks-old articles? I keep up to date with US politics. You just wasted your time.

This provides the most up to date information for foreigners entering indonesia, from what i interperated, they have now just banned all tourist visas, and it appears you can enter via bali now, as you have to quarantine at the first airport/port of entry.

Theres also been reports of corruption in the quarantine system with hotels paying officials to falsify your PCR/RAT tests to show positive, meaning your forced to stay and spend more in the hotel, I doubt Indonesia is the only country with this problem, and it could work the other way with people paying to have a negative test

    • Ha Ha sweet as bro for NZ'ers living in Australia.

    • There are still no direct international flights to Bali.

All international flights to Indonesia land first in Jakarta where you have to pass the PCR test (at your own expense) at the airport. If you pass you are allowed to stay in a Jakarta quarantine hotel at your own expense.

After six days in your quarantine hotel, you do another PCR test at your own expense. If negative, you are allowed to fly to Bali on Day 7.

  • +3

    No quarantine-free travel, no deal.
Still waiting to use my Air New Zealand credit from cancelled trip last August.

  • Indonesia's(Bali) borders are still not open to Australians wanting to get a VOA/Tourist visa.

Sure, they may change their rules by the time some of these flights depart… But they also might not.

A bit misleading/clickbaity to use that in the title.

  • A gamble booking for Vietnam considering visa of arrival is not permitted, and its tourist visas portal is still disabled to this day.

    • Lack of VOA has always been the case in Vietnam.

With uncertainty of entry VOA to any country imo should be avoided.

Selling airline tickets at the moment is the equivalent to door to door energy provider sales.

  • buying air tickets nowadays way ahead is just cooked lol..

  • Last night, I bought a return flight to DPS from SYD for 19 July 2022. As I used a JQ Voucher, I did not spend any cash.

The price of $387.62 includes 20 kg of checked in luggage each way and $33.02 of Fare Credit. With Fare Credit, I can change my flights without losing the value of my ticket.

If the rules for entering Bali are too onerous in July, I will move these flights to a later date.

    • +1

That’s interesting. I had a similar booking for Bali (which I made a few months ago on special) but in August which I just claimed Fare credits. It took about 4 hours to get the vouchers.

I then booked HNL for about the same time. Got Fare credit again. (About $14 each leg).

      I hope I don’t change back to bali….
