  • No deal at this price.

    • Depends on if the base can be used separately as a portable hob

    • Any suggestions on a better alternative?

      • What about just using a portable induction hob and a generic hot pot? That's what i use and i do hot pot on a weekly basis. Total set up cost was around half this price and can be used for other things.

This one looks like it has legs too whereas a portable hob avoids that and is therefore more stable.

That said suggest avoiding the kmart hob, it has a surprisingly noisy fan. Also wish the temperature controls allowed for more nuanced than 80, 100, and 120 degrees.

You can’t just casually say you hot pot weekly without naming your favourite, mate.

Give it up, what’s you go to soup base?

(Haidilao tomato is our family favourite)

          • @Krad3r: Ah, you fell for my dastardly plan to lure you into giving me an entry point to start talking about hotpot bases and sauces…

I'm a big fan of little sheep actually.

The plain soup base is pretty great although expensive. Very visually pleasing and has a good flavour.

For sauces definitely again little sheep brand but the one that comes in a squeeze sachet. Comes out a bit like toothpaste and is very concentrated. Keeps it hygienic since i can squeeze a bit on everyone's plate so it's better for the covid era, and especially good in that i can reseal it and pop it back in the fridge for next time. Very strong flavour with only a bit of sauce. A little hard to find though. There is a traditional dipping sauce but it's a little more oily and the flavour isn't as strong.

  • Stepless knob control the firepower. My wife has been asking about that lately.
