I'll make it quick because there's only a short time left.

Yes, I know there are cheaper calipers available (even on that page). Yes, I know they're not going to be the best quality. Yes, I know you can get it from Aliexpress or the US store for cheaper.

However, I wanted a second set of calipers for around the house that aren't all plastic/composite materials. That are stainless steel, have a bigger screen, and I know will arrive in a reasonable timeframe and have easy returns if needed.

Plus this one goes up to 200mm, and even has a fraction conversion for the inferior imperial system, other than just the inches being displayed. I have the middle set of calipers available on this product page - they're not bad for the price, certainly enough to get by. But I wanted something bigger, and with a better battery location - but I didn't want to jump to an actual good tool, costing hundreds.

  • Can't say the stainless steel one really adds any appreciable value over the ones that are literally a third of the price… but hey, it probably feels heavier and stainless steel sounds cool :)

    • I should have added to my prerequisites above: I have a non-stainless steel version, and the wear on it from sitting on the garage workbench (dampness I assume) has affected its slide a bit. For me, it's the extra 50mm and the battery compartment placement that made me spend the extra.

I have the $20 one which is still stainless steel and is also much better than the cheaper plastic ones if anyone doesn't need the full length or extra cost.

1/10 people want to know; are there left handed calipers available?

    • unfortunately only 1/10 people know the answer to your question.

not sure if serious but im a lefty and 'standard' calipers seem ok to me…

Yep, just point the calipers away from yourself and read the digits upside down. Learned that one fairly quick with the first set of calipers I used (Mitutoyo, wish I had them now).

  • I guess if that 5cm extra matters…if anything I would like a 300mm calliper.

    • that's what she said

      • It's the caliber that matters though.

    • First caliper was a dial gauge 300mm. I'll never go less than that now.

  • I thought this deal was buying a wench and a Nintendo DS.

    10/10 would buy.

  • looking for cheapo Caliper but without the digital thing, just all manual…

    • Dial gauge is what you're looking for.

Supercheap Toolpro have one of these and suprisingly good quality.

      • I'll also vouch for the Toolpro. I've also got a "proper" Mitutoyo, but I wanted something I could leave at work without worrying about it being stolen (unlikely, but still a worry). The difference between the two is mainly how smoothly it slides, the Mitutoyo is smoother. I haven't done any comparisons of accuracy, as it's rare I measure anything over 10mm.

I got mine with the "$10 bonus credit" that SuperCheap occasionally give out, if you're a "Club Plus" member.

A hidden advantage of the non-digital types: workmates will usually borrow someone else's caliper, because they don't know how to read a vernier, or want an "easier to use" one.

  • 8 inch.. not enough..

  • Got a cheap digital, flat every time i go to use it. Bought an expensive VINCA DCLA-0605 and same story, even with fresh batteries the screen is dull.

Anyone got any feedback on this one and if it eats batteries?

I got one of these from eBay after a fair bit of shopping around seemed like the best quality/price ratio for me. (Domestic use)
