Wifi calling works like roaming calls, you can only call Australia back no other countries when roaming, and on wifi only.

      • Thanks, does it work for text as well? Needed the bolt-on like plan when I don’t have wifi coverage overseas.

Edit: this link indicates early 2022 but need to know when as I plan to travel overseas mar/apr
        https://boost.com.au/blogs/help-topics/using-your-phone-over…

        • Yes. Just got back from overseas. SMS, in fact MMS also works.
The only annoying thing was they must have changed their rules while I was in France- could call all international numbers included in the sim using WiFi calling for the first half of my trip, then suddenly it started to say that I can't call international numbers via WiFi calling.
But still, you gotta love WiFi calling!

  • Does Boost get you 5G?

    • No.

      • How it is the "full Telstra network" as others have stated above multiple times, if it's not really the full Telstra network? Out of date terminology I'd say as it's clearly not the full Telstra network.
Just something that should be mentioned so some don't get mislead :)

Are you on Optus' books or something?

You keep coming in on this post to essentially attack the deal, say where it's wrong, why you've got better, how you've got better, where you've got better, when you've got better …

We get it, the deal isn't for you. You sure are spending a large amount of time on it for something you said in your very first comment isn't for you.

          • @BLB1984: What's the best way to get 5G? Telstra and Optus?
I'm currently paying a fortune with Telstra, $60 a month for 80gb when I probably use like 5gb a month. I want to go back to some ripper deals like kogan/boost but would like to retain the 5G if possible.

            TIA

@Pub Envelope: Yeah, you're going to have to stick with the big boys for 5g. I'd probably check the actual use you get out of it is worth the price difference - I know when I went from Telstra to Boost I didn't see much difference primarily because 90% I'm on a wi-fi network and then the 4G coverage was more than good enough for the odds of getting phone call/SMS out and about the area I live.

      Only if you're vaccinated

  • one can get the extra GB if only it gets activated by 31 Jan 22?

    • +1

But maybe the Feb offer will be same or even better as often the case. Unknown risk.

  • FYI. Boost mobile website has discounted the $200 plan to $180. Just saying if people don’t want to muck around with smaller vendors.

  • -1

No international calls to countries out of the list of 30 lucky ones. Thats big minus for me.

  • $120 for the Kogan small 365 plan directly from Kogan

    • Oh wow, are they Telstra network now to make it comparable? Nice. Else you're just saying a Hyundai is cheaper than a BMW. Good job.

      • +2

Just thought I’d let people know as it is and may be a better option for some that do not need the Telstra network or a BMW. Had no intentions of offending you, hope you have a better day ahead.

  • I ported out and in this week and found it a total pain to maintain my number.

Not sure if what I was doing something incorrect, or unique to me.
I made sure my DOB and details should have been correct.

I first tried Optus prepaid $2 sim and got a error upon submission, on multiple devices and browsers, with VPN off.
I ended up doing a $10 boost 7 day recharge as I ran out data, when my first port failed.

A week later I tried a prepaid Vodafone $2 sim, error again, on Multiple devices and browsers, with VPN off.

I ended up doing a live chat with Optus to do the port, which worked, and was fast in less than 10 minutes.

Thinking back to 12 months prior I bought a new sim pack which I needed to port. I had the same issue with Optus prepaid and had to use a live chat to port.

Knowing now the Optus live chat was pretty quick for porting and worked, I might do it again when my boost expires in 12 months. But I felt like it was a total pain wasting 2-3 hours and not worth the $60 saving on the $300 recharge and extra data ($50 saving after doing a $10 Optus port out recharge)

Maybe it’s a problem unique to my number and my name. As I would assume Optus and Vodafone’s prepaid activations would work reliably for a porting number.

  • My current Boost yearly plan is expiring on Feb 22nd this year. If I get $200 one with a new sim and then wait a few days before 22/2, will I be able to have it applied as a recharge using online chat? And will my data also rollover?

    • Read many above comments as covered well. There are multipple possible outcomes.

      • Just spoke to their chat rep. The best they can do is to transfer my existing number to the new sim but they cant rollover data.

Shits me the scarcity of the $150 recharges and no more $120 recharge. Id go to another telco but Boost has the best network of the ones that arent Telstra.

    • Marketting son. These guys want to maximise profits, not give us the best deals for our sakes.

Buyer do you homework, and buyer beware.

    Boost coverage is garbage

    • Can't be any worse that Voda atm

  • Just got the $300 sim price matched at Officeworks. The cashier was discussing with her manager regarding the store (it does look sus), and even asked how I would get it if the store is located in Adelaide. They then realised it had a delivery option and completed the match.
Receipt here in case anyone needs it: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/271554/93859/20220129_…

    • Does your pack say 240gb or 300gb ?

      • I haven't opened it yet, but no indication of data size, it just says $300 Prepaid Sim.

        • Right, if you look on the boost website it says 300gb data if recharged on or before 31/1

Ive been using Boost for the last couple of years but now I'll port out as soon as my current plan is over.
They have crazy speed inconsistencies - could be ok here and now and unusable in an hour the same place and/or within 5 km
Perth, no rural areas, NOT evening speed.
    Anywhere between 8mbps - 70mbps - 150mbps download.

    • I noticed this with my work phone that's on full Telstra network in Adelaide

  • Website's down

    • +1

      Works for me

      • +1

haha cheers, realised it's firewalled and works on phone :)

  • Seems like that $300 recharge is only a 240gb for the year or 300gb if activated before 31/1 https://boost.com.au/products/300-prepaid-sim

  • Just went to Burleigh Heads Officeworks was and one of the poorer experience stores for price matching.. at first they indicated they must not stock the $300, after I found it on another isle, they claimed they don't price match sim starter packs, after showing them the various bits online, they said they haven't heard of lucky mobile before.. So basically a waste of travel time and inconsistent officeworks again.

  • If you are an eBay plus member, there are better priced options with more trusted sellers there
