ugh i hate the Afterpay stuff. Really doesn't feel like a bargain as its tricking people into using their credit rating.

But they don’t do credit checks?

      • Yeah they reserve the right to conduct a credit check.

They must do some form of check somewhere otherwise they would be handing money out with no way of knowing.

        • “Tricking people into using their credit rating”…….can’t show where they do but they must :/

Their average spend is $150 and it’s a very algorithm driven system with no transparency on why the system approves or denies purchases and limits, they seem to have a plethora of data to make their decisions without needing credit checks as I’ve never seen afterpay appear on my credit report nor have I ever heard it happening. I imagine it would be a very rare event

Is the vendor reputable? A few years back I got some memory cards from EBay vendors that were smaller than advertised and reflashed to read larger. Worked fine until I exceeded the actual data size then corrupted everything written to the card. A bunch of photos I took ona trip didn’t save and I was pretty salty.

Saw some USB drives come through work around the same time that were a thumb drive and a fishing line sinker glued inside a portable hard drive shell. Same gag - read fine until you cleared the actual storage size - then data shit the bed.

Ever since then I’ve only bought data storage from vendors I can yell at if it goes pear shaped. Link goes to a vendor with good reviews - but with faults you don’t see right away - not sure how much to trust ebay reviews.

Same here - years ago bought a 32 GB SD card.
      Was actually 16 GB.
Vendor replaced no problem since he knew what was going on and didn't want the discussion.

I also made a claim through Sandisk for a corrupted SD card, but that was a straight out failed SD card. They wre really helpful.

Yep I caught out an ebay seller selling fakes a few years ago, they admitted they'd been duped & refunded… But they continued to sell them. I complained to eBay who said "They refunded you and let you keep the item. There's nothing more required".

        • Did you caught them out by checking the memory too?

        • The seller probably knew it was fakes because they started selling it.

        • How to check if it’s fake?

  • minimum purchase $20 to use the code!

Isn’t AFTERPAY10 a once only code that’s been around since they launched with eBay? As in most afterpay users would have used it already?

Do a new account easy. Have done it about 20 times… I honestly believe that I can’t be the only one doing that.

Me and my wife get each the 64GB for free by just signing up for the SANDisk Academy.

So last week I messaged 12 eBay sellers with memory cards, asking if they're legit? Are they from an official Australian distributor? If they're found to be not legit (storage size, r/w speeds, etc), will I be fully refunded & reimbursed for postage & packaging ?

Not one has responded. That speaks volumes.

    This isn't a bargain.

    • This is very cheap stuff to begin with, you probably have wasted a lot of your time. The last card I bought looks legit and is working fine on my phone. The I bought another, both for 10$ each 128gb. 2nd hasn't arrived yet.

I had a Samsung card die in my phone. I also experienced SSD die, it went read only. SSD die at the end of its age. Nothing special.

Not really a valid reason to downvote this, though.

    • Nobody wants to deal with you as a buyer for a measly $20 sale. Too much of a hassle.

Agree with others that will certainly be fake. You can get refunded and keep the card but it won't be legit.

There is zero reasons for anyone to sell legit cards on eBay. eBay doesn't care and neither do most mug punters it seems.

  • Afterpay, urgh. But also good chance it’s fake.

  • Mine just arrived. Contacted sandisk customer support, provided serial number and details of model. They confirmed it is legit based on the details provided. That assumes this is not one of many dupes with the same serial number. Can others post their findings here as well?

  • Will this be okay for a Viofo dashcam?
