  • So are you saying that your prices are only about 1-2% more than other sellers of the same knife?

  • Pretty sure u cant add any surcharges on BNPL

    • -1

      I'd be amazed if they can't, they're a business - their choice

      • +3

At least for afterpay I think it's a term of service for the merchants, that they're not allowed to pass on the surcharge. Smart marketing from afterpay to make thier service look better.

Yayyy OP finally listed what steel they use! Super capable steel. Good amount of heat treatment to get something hard but not too hard.

Honestly for $100, local stock, handmade, most of your money is going into that. You can definitely get a 'better' steel, but it'll be a production knife rather than hand made.

        https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/ALI-BABA-BEST-DAMASCU…

A very similar handmade damascus blade from $11.48+freight
Notice the screw hole placement and dot pattern on the handle is the same.

Handmade is not quite what you think it is.

        • The ones I received seemed better than Ali express ones tbh.

          @colinjames

You have been historically voting negative on our deals that we post here and mentioning these links from Alibaba. We have tried to argue that these prices mentioned on Alibaba are absolutely incorrect for many reasons. These prices in US $$ on listings on Alibaba are there only to attract potential wholesale buyers. Doesn't include shipping costs, custom duties and whole sellers. The listings may be few years old.

Anyone interested can please refer to our conversations with @colinjames here

a glimpse from it is quoted here:

If you really keen to research more please do contact some of these suppliers on Alibaba and see what actual price quotes they give and also make sure you ask them the shipping costs. Plus the custom duty and 10% GST paid to AU customs. After all that research…you will surely appreciate the affordable prices of our knives as top bargains.

Make sure you subscribe to [our YouTube Channel here.](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtIddsZtrtC0-lR2lo9oNIg

          • @pepnimble: is the quality any different - or is your only issue with the price nominated? if so - how do they vary?

            • @bondiben: Yes blade and handle materials are definitely better quality then what these unreasonably cheap listings on Alibaba…even the handmade leather sheath is way better quality. For such an unrealistic price the buyer will probably receive (if the order actually arrives) some fake damascus steel blade and very poor workmanship done by some newbie. Usually such listings are put by college students working as commission agents to earn some quick $$.

We have our team on ground to ensure the quality of materials and workmanship. These prices listed on Alibaba are way below then even our cost of manufacturing without including the cost of importing like shipping costs and custom duties. And due to COVID related issues, high fuel prices and other supply chain related factors the cost of steel and other materials has increased drastically and even the shipping costs have increased exponentially.

Other's may be only marketing cheap imports from overseas to make some quick $$ but not us for sure. The time and effort it needs to establish a business doesnt not warrant such below the belt tactics.

I agree. Almost certainly made in Pakistan. Uses same studs, buttons designs etc. Mixed reviews on these based on luck of the draw for fit and finish. Also no guarantee on the steel quality if your actually going to use the knife. Some people just want it to look cool though. The only advantage I see buying from the OP over Aliexpress is that it's local stock so you don't have any issues with customs.

          • @kaboomxyu:

…it's local stock so you don't have any issues with customs.

What issues are you expecting with customs?

            • @OzBragain: Not uncommon for customs to confiscate legal knives. Flippers especially

              • @kaboomxyu: This was an issue prior to the legislation being amended in 2015 but not any longer.

No issue importing unassisted flippers into Australia these days.

                • @OzBragain: @OzBargain

Yes agree…no issues with customs if you are importing knives that are considered legal as per the current legislation and the shipper has correctly declared it as a knife or sharps and attached proper paperwork.

For parcels above $1000 there is 5% import duct and 10% GST.

                • @OzBragain: Some people would argue that based on recent experiences with forums i read. Usually the issue can be sorted but never the less its still an inconvenience.

                  • @kaboomxyu: I wouldn't worry too much buddy, very few seizure reports on forums are from first hand experience.

        • The screw holes are different. Check the last two. But yeah quite possibly these are very similar products. I guess it's "hand made" vs "hand assembled".

          • @incipient: What's your defination of handmade?

          • @incipient: This is how Australian customs define handmade

For the purposes of paragraph 3, the Collector must be satisfied the goods are made by one or more of the following processes of production:

            by hand;

            by non-mechanical, non-powered tools held in the hand;

produced on hand or foot-powered machines.

            More details here

Imagine drilling holes and firing up furnaces using hand/foot power…you'll probably have to hire a few "Arnold Schwarzenegger" type of guys to do that :)

            Thanks

        • Just adding to our previous comments about this issue.

As far as we know that only international courier service that will accepting shipping of knives from Pakistan to Australia is DHL Express and FedEx and upon checking the DHL Express quote came out to be AU$ 78.

The price of US$ 11.48 = AU$ 16 approx … which is definetly some phantom price mentioned just to attract potential wholesale buyers. But let's say even if you were able to strike a baragain at $16….how much will be the freight cost? As we mentioned above that DHL's quoted freight cost is $79 so total will be 16+78 = $95. Even if it is half of that freight cost the total you will be paying is 16+39 = $55 with so many associated risk factors.

Yes we accept that before COVID the international courier costs were much lower.

Please do let us know if you can find any cheaper freight prices for knives shipped from Pakistan to Australia.

          Thanks

          • @pepnimble: And please beware that it is common for these phantom sellers on Alibaba to try sending knives via other courier services by lying about the content of the parcel and not declaring it as knife which is illegal and fraud and if the courier service finds out about it…then you know what happens.

We are very sure about it that only DHL Express and FedEx allows shipment of knives out of Pakistan…no other international courier service allows that.

OP has an extensive history of posting these deals… Just go on Aliexpress or Alibaba for 20% of the price..

    • -6

I'd trust op with some actually hand made knives, with the grade or steel they say they're using, over random aliexpress ones. Just a personal preference however.

I owe op a review I promised on a couple of knives from a while ago. I have been busy as a cut cat since receiving them but initial impressions are: arrived with semi reasonable edge, sharpened up in reasonable time (not the super hard metal) to a very sharp edge. Could cut feather sticks and 5mm wood with single strike. No damage from that. Edge held up to the 2 days camp use (with cleaning and oiling obviously)

Very pretty knives, would buy from him again. I collect knives and own 32 atm from victorinox pocket knives to kabars and machetes. Happy to have the ones I got in the collection

Edit: how you going op, hope everything is well :) sorry it took so long for a review (I wish I had a more complete one for you but I'm at work ATM.)

    • My review got deleted for being spam. Also, if you got the knife for a discount in exchange for the review I’m pretty sure you have to tick associated for the rest of your time on OzBargain…

  • +1

Op, do you work the blade at all? Or does "handmade" just mean "hand assembled"?

    • Sorry can please clarify what do you intend by "work the blade"?

  • I'm not sure about these knives specifically, but metal knives coming from Pakistan tend to be melted down pots and pans (and other scrap metals) that are inferior quality.

YMMV and these might be different but generally they are terrible quality if you actually want to use them.

  • Hi,

If you order it from Alibaba or elsewhere without knowing who you are actually dealing with you may end up receiving a bad or inferior quality products. But we can assure you that blades in our knives are made from genuine and quality damascus steel. You are welcome to try our knives and if you were not happy with the quality you can always return it and get a full refund.

    Thanks :)
