MSI Radeon RX 6600 XT MECH 2X 8G OCV1 8GB GDDR6 Graphics Card $729 + Delivery @ Shopping Express

670

Good price for a 6600XT. Performs similar to a 5700XT (between 3060 and 3060Ti) and is probably the best value right now.

  • Good price!

  • +3

Really good price for this card. I sold an old 5700XT for $1000 second hand just last week, so this is fantastically priced.

    • +6

IIRC, i heard the 5xxx series cards are better for mining than the 6xxx series and thus why they have held such good value compared to something like this deal? Happy to be corrected.

      • You are right, 5700xt has way better hashrate. 6600xt just around 32mh/s max. But it consumes much much less power. My 6600 non xt can do 29mh/s with 48w, my 3060 can do 36~37 mh/s on 120w. However AMD cards is trash for other algo, if eth 2.0 comes, they are very worse for other coins.

    • +2

      $1000? Wtf lmao

  • +12

In terms of what else $750 can buy you today, this isn't bad at all.

If you need a card today and that's your budget, you'll be hard pressed to do better.

I still reckon HODL if you can though.

  • +4

I have had the 5700xt MECH, the fans are extremely loud.

    • +1

This one is too. And the gaming X. They run very hot.

      • +2

        Nope, not the MSI variant.
One of the quietest cards you can buy (30dba). Very efficient in power and cooling.

        https://www.techradar.com/reviews/amd-radeon-rx-6600-xt

        • Those are my personal experience, not according to an online reviews.
The 2 MSI 6600XT models I owned both hit 95 degrees for core junction temp under load.
Fans go up to 2300-2500 and the mech gets very loud.
In comparison the 2 Sapphire models run very cool and quiet.
          ASUS dual is good too.

          • @ggzdwy: Might be an improper application of thermal paste. You could consider re-applying fresh paste.

            • -1

@Grazz989: Unlikely. MSI/Gigabyte/ASUS just do not care about their AMD cards.

              • -1

@iseeyou1312: I strongly doubt it. For one, that's a very hot temperature for that RPM that a lot of people would RMA the card for - it's not in their best interests at all to have a cooler that poor. Reputation alone would suffer.

Secondly, others have posted professional benchmarks that contradict that guy's 'personal experience'.

What do you think is more 'unlikely' - That he has an individual issue of QC (both cards likely from same batch), or that a large company in an industry with very solid benchmarking and review criticism would risk the ire of angry customers and bad press by knowingly designing cards that get to 95 deg at max RPM under normal load while their peers are far better? Try to think a bit critically.

        • +3

The Gaming X is MSI's top of the range unit, the Mech 2X is the bottom of the range - 2 totally different cooler designs

          • +2

@themilkmanbot: You are right and i owned both.
The gaming x is very fast, but It’s still too hot.
The mech is the worst model among the 5 I have tested in terms of temp and noise.

            • @ggzdwy: Would you recommend msi gaming X Rx 6700 xt ? Or a different model? Because it runs too hot

              • @CheapOjoe: I will not though I haven't touched one. I did own a MSI 2080Ti gaming X Trio. It had thermal issues as well.
Although most thermal and fan noise problems can be solved by tuning the power and fan curve, I don't recommend MSI cards.
For 6700XT, Sapphire's Nitro+ is very good for the price.

  • The question is should is try and sell the RX 580 and replace it with this?

    • +2

you know what is funny back when this was priced at 589 when it was first released, I sold my old 5600 XT for 650 bucks used last year. Don't know what its worth now but I litually got a free upgrade with some profit on the side. That is the only reason why I went for it because the old card sold for so much.

    • +2

Clearly an upgrade, but what are you prepared to pay for it?

Auctions on Ebay are topping out at mid to high $400's for the RX580 (decent brands like MSI).
Units listed for buy now at $500 aren't moving, but auctions at low $400's have multiple bids.
There are some even trying to flog for nearly $1000 buy now, but they are dreaming.

After giving Ebay and Auspost their cuts, you'll clear about $400?

So the upgrade will cost you about $340, but that's a call you need to make on whether you think it's worth it.
Definitely won't be a free upgrade though (if that was what you were thinking).

      • I was not thinking free upgrade. I was thinking about the fact of outlaying the initial funds and the timeframe to sell the old card.
At a $350ish exchange price this actually looks like a reasonably priced card. Given I paid about $300 for the RX580 maybe 3 years ago to replace a 660TI I think I see similar type performance increases across the generations

        • FSR has given some life into my 580, so im waiting it out.
I dont want to get in until I can get 3060 ti level of performance.

      • yeah this would have been good back when the 6600 xt was under 600 because you wouldn't have to pay much more after selling your rx580 how ever now at 729 bucks the price of selling it doesn't seem that much worth it.

    • Yes, do it

My old MSI Armor RX 580 sounded like a jet taking off

  • +1

yep got this paid 589 from memory back when it was released on kogan. its assame you guys have to pay more now for it.

    • You are the lucky one

  • +5

Hoping crypto mining becomes less profitable over next 2 years, that's when I'll upgrade! Ddr5 sales wooo

  • +3

Hodl .. hold…hoodddlllllllll… bought one … thanks op

  • -1

Good card esp when I sold my 5700xt last month got $1400 as the 5700's.
are great miners vs the 6600xt

  • +3

Good AMD GPU but i hate the plastic back plate on this model…

FYI …. This card has heat pads above the GPU to prevent any plastic melting on it :) If it was steel it could at least help keep the card cooler rather then trapping in heat or they could have at least created a cut out at that hot spot like other brands do.

  • With crypto mining being less profitable, there's much less buying pressure on the market.
Good value on this one but I'd sit tight for a few more weeks if I were considering a flagship card.

    • There is expected to be another pump in crypto soon.(just like after every other big dip so far)..GPU priced will rise with it… my guess is we will see prices drop at the end of the year with new 6nm refresh products from AMD and 7nm products from Intel being out in the market at that point. Along with ETH 2.0 bringing in proof of work. Nvidia may refresh something with Samsung 5nm also.

      • I agree with the technical side, but there's been a huge slump in interest from retail investors, many of whom onboarded at the tail end of 2020 and have just popped their bear market cherry.
I'd love to see another pump as I'm bullish long term, but we never know what will happen for sure :)

      • why wouldnt the miners be mining now anyway? just hold profits till the pump. makes more sense than doing nothing until the pump then trying to mine a few dollars at the last minute

        • They are still mining, it's just less attractive to be buying up more stock

  • getting close to launch price.
much lower power draw comparing to similar performance of 5700

    • I got a saphire 6600xt for $639 Delivered.. i missed out on the day one price of $629 Delivered

Sold a RX470 4GB for $350. After changing them over

      • +2

        that's a good price.
I got powercolor fighter 6600xt for $604 delivered at launch night, happy with it so far.

        • +1

I was tempted to get the fighter.. it was on sale at $589 for almost a day. But as other brands started to show up from other stores for pre-order i got one of those… people wanted Nvidia 3060s for $750 (going price at the time) and they ignored the day one release of the 6600XT

  • Happy for my $ 570 6600xt.
    Sold my 1060 3g for $280

  • So will this be a good alternative for gaming if really cant afford a 3060Ti?

    • yes

    • This is faster then 3060 12gb and slower then 3060ti but the 3060ti is really just a cut down 3070 so its using more power (TDP) then a 6600xt or 3060 12gb

    • Yes

    • As other people have said, it sits between the 3060 and 3060ti.

From memory if ray tracing is on, the 3060 has better fps, but if it's off, the 6600XT gets better frames.

      I'm enjoying my 6600XT

  • Awesome card, got the Gaming X version for just over $800 on release.

Super quite and never runs hot.

Around 90-100fps on Vanguard Ultra high settings on UWQHD resolution.

  • Sell my gtx 1070 phoenix and buy this instead?
How much money can I get for gtx 1070?

    For gaming.

  • -2

how many mhs does this baby do?

    • 32

      • -2

ouch, slower than 3060 hence its cheaper. mining economy still rules.

        • Yea but 50-60w reported in hive so super efficient

          • -1

@Jazza2400: that's Non-LHR, he was talking about LHR.

            • -1

              @[Deactivated]: Oh I was talking about 6600XT
              3060 48/33 Mh/s (Pre-June 2021/Post June 2021) @ 110w
              6600XT 32 Mh/s @ 60w

Much of a muchness, unless you can get much higher with LHR unlock you'd be better off with 6600XT for efficiency. 3060 has been this price a few times. Gaming it comes down to dlss/ray tracing.

          • @Jazza2400: my old GTX 1070 did 28mhs at 80w, i could push it to 32 but the power usage goes exponential as you bump the core clock/voltage

  • +1

Would love to see this at $600 & 3060 @ 550. Which would make 3050 $350-400, and 6500xt sitting pretty at $199-249. Dreamin'

  • +1

Do we know the price of the Intel cards might be when they land in Aus?

    • Luckily for you I have a cousin in Peru who lives in the mountains and has a shaman in his village. I will tell him to ask the shaman your question. Will get back to you when I get a answer.

      • +1

Oh wow, i would rather you get back to me with a KFC Zinger Box with a Pepsi Max for the beverage.

  • +1

Well cr*p. Just bought this card last week for $779 and I thought that was cheap. :/

Edit: Just arrived today and I'm super impressed at the performance

  • +2

basically a 1080ti…..for the same price as a 1080ti 5 years ago. Good times

    • As a quick refresher, Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080 Ti was released back in early 2017 for $700USD

      $1100AUD

      GeForce GTX 1070 June 10, 2016 $379USD
      GeForce GTX 1070 Ti November 2, 2017 $449USD
      GeForce GTX 1080 May 27, 2016 $599USD

  • How would this compares to GALAX GeForce® GTX 1660 Super?

    • The 6600xt is quite a bit stronger between a 3060 and 3060 ti

  • Looked at the stats of this vs my 1080 (not ti). According to this benchmark website, my 1080 performed slightly better. I'll wait for the 3070's to come down in price.

    https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-1080-vs-AMD…

    • +1

That site is pure rubbish and is often wrong by >50%, especially for CPU benchmarks. The techpowerup benchmarks are far more accurate.

It's around 33% faster than a 1080. But honestly, if you have a working 1080 you should be waiting for Lovelace.

      • what he said :) the 6600XT is FASTER then a 1080ti in every youtuber review

  • Shopping express over sold this card and offered me this https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/msi-radeon-rx-6600-xt…

I don't know much about cards but would the alternative be better than the original post?
