    • What event

        • +9

I don't pay attention to any of these events anymore, Apple or Samsung, all a tad boring nowadays, I had to google this one LOL

        • +2

          Looks like Apple does

        • please dont speak for anyone else but yourself.. it cant be no one…. because by default, you'd have tech bloggers, media writers already tuning in…. that.. is already someone…

          • -6

@ruztynail: with 8 billion people on earth, you thought i was speaking literally? roflmao

the average person never knows about samsung events, but i guarantee you always know when there is an apple event.

fyi, those bloggers and writers get paid to do that, lol.

            • @Hugh G Rection: nar. i'm just helping make it more obvious to the other readers that your statements is gibberish that's all.

you must be an apple fan boy. the fruit is strong with this one… lol.

              • -8

@ruztynail: i understand not everyone can afford apple, so enjoy your samsung event, samsung fan boy.
watch how they make fun off apple, but then copy apple. lol

                • +1

@Hugh G Rection: lol. i have never said i was a samsung fan.. Again. Please. speak for yourself. your credibility is dwindling..

and go do a fact check on who's copying who.. again.. gibberish.

                  • -5

@ruztynail: sure troll, get a life. so you don't have an apple or samsung, you have zero credibility. lol

looks like your nokia is still going strong after all these years.

            • +2

@Hugh G Rection: i've never known when an apple event is. ever.

  • Does the phone have to be purchased outright in store as part of the deal or can it be added to monthly billing sans 1k off the cost?

    • +7

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I remember seeing that the $xxx off a phone acts like a gift card, so gotta purchase the phone outright and sign up separately with the phone deal

    • when i got it last year, i had to pay the difference after the discount.

    • with these deals they usually just apply an $X gift voucher ($1000 in this case) to the purchase of the phone and put it on the required plan

  • +3

Samsung had a pre-order promo last year for the S21 Ultra that takes $1000 off with $99 per month for 12 months - not 24 months. Would be good if JB did the same for the iPhone (12 mos instead of 24 mos).

    • +1

      yeah I paid 594 for s21 ultra 256gb - $99p/m for only 12 months.

  • I've been hanging out for a iPhone 13 pro Max deal for a few months now. Is this the best I'm gonna get for the foreseeable future?

    • +3

I heard that they may bring a USB C port to the 14 due to EU demands.

      • +1

This would actually be huge for me as an Android user, everything I have is Usb C.

        • I too would love to see Apple embrace USB-C, much better for the environment when just about ever other device now use this as the standard.

      • -3

Not happening with iphone 14 mate

        • +3

Then I wonder how they will bypass the EU mandate. Time will tell I guess, though in saying that I'm not sure if they have 100% passed the mandate yet.

          • -1

@NoiceMemes: I don’t think eu are mandating this year. But, it is more likely apple will go port less rather than usb c.

            • @Allaboutdiscounts: Ugh, hopefully innovations can make wireless charging decent. But it also brings complications to those not using Bluetooth devices and hoping to plug in their wired headphones too.

            • @Allaboutdiscounts: They are mandating it but will allow for a 24 month transition period, more info here: https://ec.europa.eu/commission/presscorner/detail/en/ip_21_…
Portless? I hope not as wireless charging is much slower. Yes, it's nice to have wireless charging as an option, but not the only method for charging.

              • +1

@SimAus007: Wireless charging doesn't have to be slower. OnePlus gets some insane speeds with their wireless charger.
But wireless would be a huge pain for carplay. Most new cars at the moment only have wired carplay

                • +2

@CeeGee: It does (currently) because wireless charging generates a lot of heat and much of the electricity is wasted during the transfer process (less efficient).
Plenty of documented info about this online.
I like wireless charging, don't get me wrong, but when I want to charge quickly, I'll always go wired first and it's much easier to charge and use your device at the same time.

                  • +1

@SimAus007: I agree. My current Oppo find x2 gets insane wired charging speeds. I'll miss that when I switch to iPhone eventually

    • i buy a new iPhone every year and just pass down last years model to my kids.
i would say best practice is just get a new phone every 2-3 years and you will be ok.

    • +2

This is only a good deal if you want to be on an "expensive" Telstra plan, and you hate porting out every 12 months.

Better deals are $400 off a $69 plan 12 month contract, or 30x grocery points on Apple GC (hasn't been offered for a while.)

  • +2

So the plan cost is 99x24 = 2376 instead of +Phone .. Seems dodgy statement.

  • +1

    How is this $1000 off???

    • $1000 off for the iPhone 13 and pay the difference using either further cashback from SB or CR

  • +3

Vodafone have a similar deal $1,000 off/voucher deal however their plan is only $89month for 24months and includes Apple, Samsung, and Google devices.

    https://www.vodafone.com.au/plans/sim-promo

    • +4

I guess you’re paying the $10 extra/month for that Telstra branding: better coverage

    • +1

Vodafone coverage is so lame, that the 10$ difference with Telstra is a no brainer

    • and what optarse offering one tenth of nothing

  • I miss what these deals used to be like

  • +4

Gone are the days when phones used to be free when we signed up for 12/24/36 months contracts……

    • +3

They were never free, costs have just become more transparent now.

    • The average person would consume $30 worth of Calls/Data on a prepaid deal. Exact same usage would have been $70 on a "Free Phone" contract. So you were paying $40 a month for the "Free" phone over 24 months. So you paid about $1000 for the free phone, which is the same thing here, except its up front. Then add growing costs

      • Wife got her pixel 4 on $59 a month over 12months and 299 upfront so thats a total of about 1k. Phone was about that price at the time maybe a little less (can't remember) but defo worked out better than buying the phone and paying $30 a month for calls/data. SO maybe more like paid for the phone and got the plan free but still worked out

      • But now we are paying same $69 or $99 per month for the plan and on top of paying for the phone too. So you call the phone free or not in past, still was much cheaper compared to now.

        • -1

Whilst that is true, the phones you were getting for free were like $800 max phones, these new phones are like $1500. You are getting a subsidized $1500 phone for $69 a month. And if you are paying $69-$99 a month on a BYO, you really need to shop around. You are getting a cheaper phone up front and then paying that back over time. If you spreadsheet all the math behind it, works out about the same. Just like when you got a "free phone", there was always cheaper monthly options if you bought up front.

  • Were they ever really "free"? I think the cost was just built into the plan.

Eg, you can get better value on pre paid plans now compared to post paid, never used to be that way.

    • +1

I use Amaysim $25 plan with close to 50GB data and unlimited local and to something like 40 other countries for free…They use Optus network, not as good as Telstra but good enough for the price so I would say those $99 plan really worth half the price

    • We are talking about plans here.
We are paying same $69 or $99 per month for the plan and on top of paying for the phone too. So you call the phone free or not in past, still was much cheaper compared to now.

  • @OP. are you associated with JBHifi?

Avatar looks like something that JB would use.

    • +2

Haha I would’ve loved to work at JB but I stole that pic off from Google images

  • In previous posts some have had success signing up over the phone. Curious to know which stores as my local won’t do it…

  • Does anyone know if this offer will work on the iPhone 13 mini? Leaves it out quite specifically.

  • Would any one know JB-Telstra deals data sharing is allowed? the reason asking is i got my home internet using 4G modem with $5 data sim shared with my Optus mobile (500GB) the max i use is about 150-180GB per month.

    • +1

Data sharing only works if you buy the plans directly from Telstra. Think of this plan as providers such as Amaysim and Boost. They don’t have the full features unlocked

  • I saw this deal a few days ago and saw that if you port in for $99/mo Telstra plan, you get an $800 jb voucher?

Now can I use that to pay for the difference after - $1000?

I’m a little mindblown it seems too good to be true?

    • Or does it mean you can only get either - $1000 off the phone or $800 jb voucher?

      • Lol they 2 seperate deals.. 1 is $1000 off iPhone 13, pro or max and the other is $800 gift card. 2 seperate deals and to get both you would need 2 seperate plans so defo not the way you thinking

    • “You’re dreaming…”
This is a new customers/port-in deal… meaning normally you get the $800. This deal, you’ll get $1000.

  • -1

I don't think this is even a deal
