Unlike regular canned meat balls.. they’re honest about whether it contains actual meat.

    • +6

That's a bit unfair. Rat is a meat.

      • +3

So is vegetarian dog, albeit a bit stringy.

    • Unless they're not…… :o

  • -3

560g hot dogs are obviously the pick for most….vegie meat lol

  • +7

go easy if I’ve butchered the post.

It is short & sweet, no mincing around.

    • +18

      Thanks for sharing, jv!

      • +8

        You're welcome.

  • +7

I never get these free offers from Flybuys, I got a couple of free 250ml fans of come a few years ago (I think a ginger flavoured one and whatever comes attempt at copying Pepsi Max was I forget the exact branding) but nothing since. I would've liked this and the free Kombucha drinks. 'What am I chopped liver?' as my grandma used to say lol

    • +21

      Fans of come?

      • JAV

        • Whoah and it probably is a thing too….

    • Cans of Coke*
      Damn you auto-correct

  • +8

You will find these on sale for 30 cents in no time.

    • +12

Highly unlikely gievn it's the fastest growing segment in supermarket categories.

      • +3

I doubt people will rush out to buy canned 'meat', the fact that product is in a can will be off putting to many as they associate it with the general grossness of canned meat.

        • Fair point :)
I'll still try it as canned meat sounds much more disgusting compared to product that is vegetable based, ultimately it's canned vegetables, but I still understand where you are coming from marketing wise.

          • +12

@SimAus007: People who mock these fleshless knockoffs of cheap meats - would you rather eat the waste from a slaughterhouse or the waste from a vegetable processor? Heck even the sawdust from a timber mill sounds aesthetically better than the first.

            • -1

@afoveht: Fleshless meat?! You cant eat this unlike a flesh light.

Get real canned meat, Like SPAM!

        • +2

say what you will about canned goods, but plumrose are one of the few i trust with meat in a can, so i expect their non-meat in a can would be on point

    • +9

These are pretty good actually, quite comparable to a random meat hot dog. They both just taste super salty, like you.

  • -4

    vomit

    • +15

Should see a doctor about that.

  • +1

A tin of Tuna with marinated vegetables was my freebie.

    • +1

      Same

On the other hand my bunch account keeps giving me every flavour of Halloumi

      • Don't recall ever getting a freebie offer on flybuys. Just all the 'Spend $X in Y shops' for flybuys points.

And Buy certain product for bonus flybuys points, but I hardly get them any more.

  • +2

    Hard pass

  • +8

For when you hate yourself so much, that regular canned meatballs are not enough punishment.

    • nah, wait till you try the Vege hot dogs…

  • +1

Great find, will grab several at half price. Thanks OP :)

  • +6

So good they have to give it away.

    • try before you cry ~~

      • -2

Ahh, the sweet aroma of vegan coping.

  • +7

I’d rather eat the actual can

  • +2

Why name it meat balls and hot dogs?

It's like this local restaurant that serves vegetarian duck. What's the point?

    • +16

      maybe the duck was vegetarian

    • +13

There are people out there, believe it or not. Who either like the flavour or textures of certain proteins but for ethical reasons don't eat them.

Then there's people like me, my wife if vego and it's easier for me to cook a vego meal instead of cooking two meals. Now this product isn't really appealing but some of the others are and of they're labeled as such it makes it somewhat easier to identify and serve.

      • +9

        , believe it or not

They won't. It's too hard for them to consider a different view.

      • A lot of the minces are quite decent and Impossible burgers are pretty good.

    • Less animals are unnecessarily abused and murdered with the veg versions. Only your taste buds and health suffers…

  • -5

I got excited then looked again …. They are vegan wtf…. So many vegan products are actually very unhealthy despite them tasting aw ful of nothing

    • +3

Actually they're not vegan as they contain egg

      • +3

In that case it looks like there is more animal product in these vegetarian hot dogs than there is in actual hot dogs…..!

    • +4

You looked TWICE and still got it wrong? Might want to get some glasses!

  • +11

Meat free meat balls are just balls. Vegetarian balls maybe but not meatballs.

  • +3

    Shudder

  • +2

    🤢

  • +1

Good for feeding chooks and goats

    • +2

      I doubt they'd go near it…

  • +9

Well, we've been interested to reduce our red meat intake so I picked up a freebie can of meatballs (and bought a second at half price). Chopped up an onion, a little garlic, half a red pepper, mushrooms and some tomato paste. Combined with some casarecce pasta (also on special :-) and I must say, we quite enjoyed it!

    • casarecce pasta (also on special :-)

which brand ? is it this one ?

      https://shop.coles.com.au/a/eden-rise/product/barilla-la-col…

      • +1

Thats the one. Nice and chewy

    • Well, we've been interested to reduce our red meat intake so I picked up a freebie can of meatballs (and bought a second at half price). … and I must say, we quite enjoyed it!

      Sounds legit!!

    • +2

      red pepper

      It's a friggin' capsicum

      • Just as well I didn’t use egg plant…"

    • +1

From experience i think that frankfurts (canned or packaged) are so high in fillers etc that some of the veggie frankfurts I've had, have tasted exactly the same as meat versions. Especially the brand Moving Mountains plant based vegan hotdogs. They're awesome when you can find them. Made with sunflower seeds, carrots etc. And taste exactly the same (from memory anyway).

    • +1

Well, how’s this … I bought two more cans of meatballs today (at half price)

    • Thanks for the tip mate, I got this free shit too and sometimes my family likes to have meat free alternative. Will try something along the lines of your recipe and bought the casarecce pasta to try as well

  • I got the offer, did any one try it ? which is better to get, hot dogs or meat balls ?

    • +1

I will get the hot dogs

  • -2

Who gave the rights for vegetarians to still call it meatballs? Aren't they completely against meat?

    • +2

      And balls?

    • +4

I think it's the "killing animals" part rather than the word that they don't like.

      • +1

They term it "murder", as if there are childless sheep bleating for their (roasted) lambs, lol. If they dropped this kind of childish nonsense they'd probably brainw um, convert, more people. (Well, more people of slightly higher IQs, anyway.)

    • +2

The rights to vegetarians? This is so twisted, i just can't. Are you worried about getting confused?

  • -1

Cool thanks might have a few of these handy when my vegan friends come over

  • Were the dogs really vegetarian?

  • -2

    what kinda weirdie has Flybuys?

    • +2

What kinda weirdo calls people weirdie when it’s weirdo?

  • +1

I tried those Meatballs when it was half price, it is surprisingly good.

  • Nothing in Flybuys!

  • Had these before out of curiosity. Smelt like dog food.

    • +1

So in other words, two thumbs up?

  • +1

Canned processed meat that's not even meat.. that's… about as unappetising as it can get!

  • got this offer too, tbh i probably wouldnt have tried a canned version if not for this chance, im happy to give it a go, nothing a little sauce cant compensate for

    • The problem is it's probably soy based. So the freebie may not compensate for the future cost of male breast reduction surgery and/or sperm donor for those wanting a family.

      • I know you're probably just making a joke but it looks like it's actually gluten/cereal based. Most vegie sausages are. No soy.

  • The meatballs are actually quite good. Good texture, but the sauce is a bit too salty for me.

The hot dogs however… while they're reasonably pleasant and edible they have a texture and look resembling plastic. I don't think Plumrose have these right yet.

  • Tried the hot dogs…they taste OK, but they have a very soft/pasty texture. Need more protein to firm them up.

It should be illegal to use the word “meat” in any product that doesn’t contain meat.
Same with Chicken, Beef, Pork, etc.
    Misleading and deceptive conduct.
