Major Car Service $29 + Oil & Oil Filter Included at Rapid Tune (Melbourne Only)

63

Major car service at Rapid Tune (Melbourne only) for $29 from Cudo.
Only $29 at FIVE locations: Ferntree Gully, Mitcham, Carrum Downs, Preston & Keysborough!

Voucher valid from20th APR 2012 to 20th OCT 2012

This deal is much better than all the BS deal which only include labour and then charge you high price for their supply i.e oil + oil filer. Bad example one is Good Year Auto care which I will never buy again. All those deals with labour included only should be avoided like a plague.

These guys at Rapid Tune do a good job and their quote for part is quite reasonable. Their deal also include oil + oil filter which basically all what it requires for a normal (minor) service. They did a thorough report and check for my car so I'm very happy with their service.

The voucher valid until 20/10 so you can buy 2 for your car normal service which is usually done every 10,000km or 6 month.

how on earth can they make money from this?

    • +5

Well the obvious way is to claim you need heaps of things replaced/Damage parts so you have to keep coming back every few months.

    • +2

      Seconded.
Unless they are using really shit oil and some impossibly cheap oil filters.
They will be pulling out all the stops to convince you of extra faults.

Eg my last service (I did):
      Oil - $38 on special - 20% off
Oil Filter - part of a bosch pack from ebay for $60 (oil filter worked out around $10-12)

        +cost of your time
        +risk of something going wrong

I'm not saying this is a good deal, but I am very happy to take my car somewhere to be checked.

        • Time.. an hour away from the computer screen is good for you.

Risk.. and the risk of something going wrong from a disinterested kid doing the work is..? Not to mention the cheap/low spec oil effects on a modern engine…

          Pass..

They just can't make money at that price, this is just a way to get customers into the shop so that the mechanic can call you back with a hundred other unnecessary things that they want to fix in the car.

Typical example , replace new brake pads when existing ones are just fine, and similar other things…

    • It's basically free labour because they can get wholesale engine oil in a big container and buy the filters in bulk. $29 is more than enough to cover the oil and filter alone.

  • +1

I like bargains, but in this case I worry about the quality of the job. Who would do the job properly for $29?

    • +1

Well the place is called "rapid tune" HAHAHA

      • You just make a joke, Bobby?

  • Can we bring our own engine oil and oil filter?

    • I think you can, coz it will save them money anyway. You can call them to check.

    • no because then they will end up with extra oil and filters that they need to…. errrmm.. "recycle"

  • +1

Do they provide any sort of quote or anything, or are you just at their mercy after you drop your car off? I don't want to pay $29 only to be told that during the service they noticed my 'double manifold bypassing valve processor unit' was at the end of its life and so they took the liberty of replacing it for me - for 900 bucks of course…

    • +1

they will give you quote and it is up to you to decide to do it or not.

  • Finally, I can provide my 2 cents to ozb. I have brought such a car service voucher at rapidtunes on 2009. Their work is fine. But the problem is they are overcharging for all the other works not on the voucher. At that time, I spent another $300 to get the services done. Btw, the engine oil is drained from a markless barrel (looks old).

They buy generic oil at $3 a litre, and oil filter cost them $5, so they still make money. Then 1/3 of jobs they would value add other services - coolant, brakes etc

    • +3

Ok, so your point of neg is that this business are still making money??

$29 for a major service is still very cheap that includes oils and filter. Not like others who still charges like $30 for the filter which only cost them for $5.
      Your neg is invalid !!

  • I guarantee you, thy will call you up saying you need brake pads change.

    • +1

Nope, not on my car. Only 15,000km on the clock. I'd love to see them try.

      • Most people with new cars will not trust el-cheapo to service their car. Those who want a bargain are usually those who have a bomb.

        • +2

Not true, people with new cars are often just as strapped for cash because they've usually borrowed way too much for their car. Also, some people with very expensive cars are extreme tight a**ses.

        • +1

Damn, all the time I thought people who drives nice cars are rich.

        • some(or many) people with very expensive cars are full out bankrupt everywhere else..

  • I tried midas(similar offer) few years back, no good experience.
My mate got a similar offer from other service center, also a lemon.
Many ppl here (& in whirpool) has the same experience… so never touch them or even think about it!

    Now there is another one!

They(the industry) should start to give proper price & service instead of wasting their/our time and money !!

Title says major. Sounds like a minor service.

    • MAJOR as in = we will ask you to pay us to fix lots of stuff in your car…even though it might not need any attention!

  • +2

Think I'll stick with my local bloke, who does a good job for a fair price, and will not recommend work being done unless the car needs it. In fact, he's talked me out of stuff I was ready to have done.

Can confirm the comments here. Bought one of this before from Rapid Tune, and they called to offer higher grade oil, brakepads, wiper need changing.
Having said that, can someone recommend a good, reliable, and trustworthy mechanic in South Eastern Melbourne suburb?
    Thank you.

    • +1

look in the mirror! a service is as easy as unding a bolt, unscrewing a filter and then putting them back on… unless you need a stamp for a log book change, its easier and better as you know whats going on with your car to do it yourself. the trouble to get the car there, wait for it to be done etc… be without a car…

i dont understand why people dont do it themselves as its so damned simple!

      • PS. real oz bargainers wouldnt pay someone for a service they could do themselves ;)

    • +1

Did you have to take their offer or can you refuse it?

  • Do you want your car serviced properly or cheaply?? A good car service is worth every cent… getting one is the big problem these days.
I would spend my time looking for a quality service center not a bargain.

Not a true 'deal'. If you read the fine print they emphasize you get only 2 hrs lab and free oil + filter for a MAJOR service and anything else required will be extra. You will get rung up to ask about

    • $30 to upgrade to a lower viscosity 10-40 or 5-30 SM oil for your falcodorecamryvic because the type included in the deal is a SL rated 20-50 and will not be suitable for your car.
    • $20 to get the tyres balanced, otherwise they will say they can rotate the tyres as per the deal, but it may cause vibration in the front end (which is true)
    • $150 parts and labour for air filter, fuel filter (excluding in tank) and spark plugs which are almost always part of a major service

Then perhaps some extras (esp if you drive an older vehicle):

    • $170 leads, dizzy cap, rotor
    • $140 points, condenser, canister coil (if you're that old!!!)
    • $90 set of drive belts
    • $75 brake fluid change
    • $75 coolant change
    • $20 wiper refils
    • $150 EFI service/tune
    • $40 diagnostic scan
    • $60-$300 various suspension bushings (esp if you drive a commodore!!)
    • +++ brake pads, disc rotors, machining, ignition coils, distributors, gaskets, bearings, pulleys etc etc etc

If you go there with only $29 in your wallet I suppose if they wanted to they could tell you that they cannot do the service and will refund you the money, by which time you'll give in, since you've already taken a day off work to get there, and pay at least the extra $30 for the proper oil and $20 for the balance. Or maybe since you're already there may as well pay the $150 for the other bits required in a major service. But what about the brake pads that you need…….

I'm not saying they're no good, but this is just bait and not a true 'deal'. There is no free lunch, esp in the auto trade. If something is too good to be true….. it probably is.

I bet the mechanic up the road has a sign out reading
