Fantastic game that plays beautifully on PS5 with 60 FPS patch albeit no native version yet. You definitely need to play Part 1 first though (free on PS5 PS+ Collection).

      • +18

        Speak for yourself.

One of the best games I have ever played. And the only one I have replayed three times.

        • +8

The gameplay is amazing. Sound, environments, all top notch. The storyline i have a few problems with and is pretty divisive amongst fans generally speaking. Although there are some…ahem, "difficult" moments, the storyline is not all bad. Try not to throw the diamonds out with the rubble.

Anyway, just a few of my thoughts on the game. If you havent played it yet, give it a go

        • +2

Troy Baker's comment on this game is pretty good: most people either love it or hate it.

Graphics and animations: top notch. Story, it certainly divides opinions. Personally, I feel the story tries to do too much and is written more for a TV series. TPTB wants to put in some shock factors. It's a story without any fan service.

Best not to hype up too much for people who haven't played. Part 2, honestly, how good can a revenge story be? Part 1 has that interesting ending to make you forget it is essentially mission unaccomplished. Part 2 kinda has the same basic story: someone important @#!@#, the main character is on a mission, and that mission failed due to "doing the right thing". Once again, you cannot choose how the story ends, you have to go with the choice TPTB decided. It once again divide opinions.

mmcgr97 is a troll. Look at all his comments.

      • -1

On the flipside, I thought part 1 was pretty mediocre while part 2 is one of the best games I've ever played.

    • +1

Does this ps4 version work on ps5

      • +1

        Yea it does.

      • +3

        Yes and there’s a 60 FPS patch on PS5.

        • To expand on this for those who are not aware: Last year, TLOU Part II received a PS4 patch which enables 60fps on PS5 through PS4 backwards compatibility mode (the game normally runs at 30fps for PS4 Pro).

There probably won't be a free native PS5 patch, but there's rumours that the game is being remastered for PS5 so there might be a paid upgrade in future at some point…

          • @deadpoet: Thought it was TLOU Part 1 being remade for PS5. They doing both?

  • +1

    Lowest price since Christmas 2020?

    • +2

It was part of JB Hi-Fi's 2 for $30 during Boxing Day and Black Friday 2021. and a crazy low $9 from Harvey Norman in Aug 2021.

    • -2

It didn't sell too well after initial reviews.

      • +3

I bought it at launch and really wish I hadn’t. Only played a few hours. Nowhere near as good as the first one.

        • +1

Wished I waited and got that $9 deal.

        • +1

          Loved the first one.

But got stuck in the abandoned under ground train station where you got to swim. Lol

  • +4

Price matching JB Hi-Fi in case anyone prefers.

    • +2

Wow, your comment history just commenting on this game constantly saying how you disliked it so much, yet has been received very well with a metacritic score of 93%.

      • -3

Did you happen to glance at the user score while you were there?

        • +8

It's been almost 2 years, let it go man.

Anybody can put a 0/10 on metacritic.

          • -4

@kazuyamishima: Lol what exactly are you asking me to 'let go' of? Also, anybody can put up a 10/10 on metacritic as well, furthermore it was demonstrated back then that at one stage negative reviews were rejected while fake/duplicate positives were allowed to continue.

        • +5

          Yea from all the MMCGR97's

          • @onlinepred: Been demonstrated that there were plenty of fake, duplicate positives also.

            • +1

@m0usju1c3: Yep, but overall makes sense, as it was a great game, well reviewed. Just so many emotional men out there that didn't even buy the game, just watched the leak runthrough.

              • +1

Tired and old argument. Just look at pretty much every gaming YT channel review, listen to the objections and critiques, then you might understand more in detail why many fans of the original did not like the sequel.

                • +2

@m0usju1c3: "many", you mean a tiny subset? For every YT review that paints it as a terrible game, there will be 100 praising it. It was multiple game of the year awards from reviewers.
It was subject to massive review bombing on meta critic, and few loud angry people.

There are people saying the Vaccine is a hoax, does that mean that "many people" align with that? Nope. I was a fan, I loved both. I don't know anyone personally who played both and disliked the second.

Out of curiosity, did you honestly watch the leaked footage?

                  • +1

I'm sorry, the amount of terrible to meh rated reviews, especially by some very notable uploaders does not constitute as tiny subset, or even subset.

There are people saying the Vaccine is a hoax, does that mean that "many people" align with that? Nope. I was a fan, I loved both. I don't know anyone personally who played both and disliked the second.

                    I respect your opinion.

Out of curiosity, did you honestly watch the leaked footage?

Honestly, I tried my absolute best not to. I eventually caved in and started, but stopped when I saw Ellie on horseback searching for Joel. I did however read other comments going on about "Abbey confirmed trans!" etc. However I still played the game and finished it in it's entirety.

        • +4

User scores on metacritic mean absolutely nothing. 99% are not subjective. Case in point with this guy mmcgr97 saying its the worst game in history.

          • +1

@robbiey: Are you denying that a significant portion of the fan base didn't like the game? Of course user reviews mean something, it's ridiculous to claim that user reviews mean nothing (besides the fake duplicates of course). Can you prove that 99% are not subjective?

            • +2

@m0usju1c3: No I agree a few of them probably didn't like the game. But I'd argue their reasoning for not liking the game is provoked by something other then the quality of the gameplay etc. This is the same group of people that partake in console wars etc. So yeah I'd rather engage in critic reviews and even then I would rather try it for myself.
I mean the amount of users on metacritic giving it a 0-2 is absurd. It's clearly and obviously not that bad a game so those reviews may as well be junk.

              • +1

@robbiey: I for one enjoyed and appreciated the graphics, gameplay and sound, the story for me however was absolutely abysmal and a far cry from the original. There are many like me who aren't console fan boys etc.

If you choose to focus on that fringe of people who rate 0's and 2's with reasoning lacking substance, whilst ignoring the greater majority with serious and substantial criticisms of the game, then that choice is yours.

  • +11

Definitely worth a play at $19 bucks.

I did enjoy the first game a little more overall story wise, but the combat is better here, the environments are better IMO, and the attention to detail is amazing.

  • Would this still be worth playing on ps4? No ps5

  • Waiting for this game to come to GamePass

    • +11

Unless Microsoft buys Naughty Dog from Sony sometime soon, you might be waiting a while.

  • +1

Great game at nice price~ :)

  • +10

Wish I could wipe my memory of this game…

And then play it again. A masterpiece.

  • +5

This is a good game with great controls, however if you played the first one and enjoyed it for the story not the action, then you possibly will hate this one as the story is poor. (not terrible but not at the same league as the first)
If you liked the first for the action\gameplay then you wont have an issue with this.

    • +1

People generally come to Naughty dog games for the story…… hence the backlash.

      • +2

I remember when they used to make fun games too.

    • +8

Just because the story does things you didnt like, doesnt mean it is poor, it extensively challenged players to try and see things from 2 sides, far further than any game or movie has done before. Viewers struggle with that, they want to like a character and root for them to win. Not be confronted with deep questioning of morality.

      • +4

Agree, but I didn't like the story, didn't flow, didn't make sense, felt disjointed, difficult to argue the story in TLOU2 was anywhere near the level of TLOU, but if your happy then great. As I said above, the story wasn't terrible.

      • +1

If you believe you are great at seeing both sides of things, then try to be open minded about what other people think.

The main issue people have is the characters. What they said and do at key moments, also the time jumps affect what you know at the time.

The biggest issue is that the writers expect you to figure out what the characters are thinking. However, some of the events are a bit weird by nature and they don't always follow each other in a sensible manner. You have Joel saving Abby, and then soon followed by "that" event. So, you need to come up with your own interpretation (which is probably wrong at the time) about Abby's state of mind. Furthermore, you also need to consider the fact that Ellie never finds out why Abby did "that". I've read some deep analysis on why Ellie decided not to go through with it (including that you need to take the ending animation / flashback into consideration). Also, some people would have been happy with Ellie just live happily ever after with Dina, rather than embark on that final revenge journey (perhaps people who love the story could explain why the writers decision is perfectly correct).

However, it is asking too much from players. The writers shock you with WTF events, then feeds you information on why. Problem is, there are also times when things are not explained. The characters even pointed out those facts at times… i.e. "doesn't matter, they screwed up". I know some people felt that had one of Abby's ally simply told Ellie what happened, part 2 would completely fall apart. Then, there is that Abby's father is the "only" person capable of developing a cure excuse (as if that's fantastic writing).

Easier to just go, the story just isn't good, but at least the graphics, animations are top notch. A bit annoyed Ellie cannot pick up the PS Vita in the game.

    • +4

Here I am loving the gameplay, and the story is what pushed me further. The gameplay/gunplay/combat was a huge step up over the first one. The story was a little long for me, but overall I was still very happy for a part 2.

  • very good game and updated for PS5 at 60fps.
……..not on ps4 though you guys only get 30fps unfortunatly.

  • +2

Incredible game! It’s the only game that when I finished it, I just sat there, just thinking about it. I turned off my PS5 and didn’t play another game for two weeks. Even my wife who doesn’t game except for Sims 4 watched me play it and wanted to know the ending.

  • +6

Fantastic game, personally i liked the first one more but still loved the 2nd.

I think it's crazy people associate hate with something if the precursor was better. You're allowed to like things less people!

At this price definitely worth it.

    • -1

Too much hype on both the first one and the second one. A crude way to look at the story would be: Mission unaccomplished part 1 and part 2. Part 1, the power that be forces you down the emotionally correct choice (which most people seem okay with that). In Part 2, the power that be forces you down the morally correct choice. Roughly the same formula: someone important to the main character @!#!@#, the main character set out to complete a mission, after the emotional journey, decided not to complete the mission. The player is not given the choice on the final decision.

Graphics, animation, top notch… Not sure what Sony and Naughty Dog are cooking behind the scene. There will most likely be some form of PS5 package version (with at least the multiplayer element). Anyway, I just wish whatever they intend to do, do them quickly and let's move on to something else.

  • I thoroughly enjoyed playing through this, great gameplay and grahics, its like a 25 hours movie.

Story is a mix bag.. the 1st game is one of the best paced game of all time and great story, this one the story is decent, but the pacing and characters are piss poor. I still thought overall the story told was quite touching, it just wasnt done with finesse.

  • I just couldn't stand how much of a massive hypocrite Abby was and that we were somehow supposed to root for her despite that.

    • +1

The way the story was told, due to the time jumps, makes it hard for people to root for her. Insisting on someone important to the protagonist must !@#!@ early in the game just like part 1 isn't always the perfect formula. Also, Lev's story is better suited to be attached to Abby's story arc, but that causes pacing issue, especially given that the story is slotted in for second half.

I don't play golf and I didn't know Neil (the writer) was accidentally hit by a golf club in real life once.

  • I played it and found it very slow moving. I prefer fast paced fps PC games like DOOM ETERNAL and QUAKE!!!

    • don't just neg, give a reason ya donkey!

  • +4

I've played the first one through 5 times and this one through twice, and I don't understand the hate. Probably the best game ever made, for less than $20.

Rumors that Naughty dog have hired coders for a PC version for both of the tlou games, to be released after the ps5 remaster is done. Cool if true

    • +1

Yep it's all but inevitable, this is basically Sony's strategy for a lot of their games moving fowards.

This will also help cross-promotion of The Last of Us HBO TV series.

      • +1

Hoping the tv adaption doesn't suck. Could be great or very very bad.

    • -2

Part 2 is a flop financially. Part 2 sold less copies than part 1.

A bit perplexed on why Sony now porting a lot of their PS4 first party exclusives to PC. It's good for consumers though. That said, that also means we will probably be seeing a PS5 version. A PS5 remaster version of Part 1 might be good.

I hope Naughty Dog learned from Part 2's mistakes. Reduce time jumps in games. Don't upset the fans. It's useless to be able to write a story with near perfect, organic LGBTQ elements if the rest of the story is rough around the edges. Naughty Dog needs a new IP. We know Neil Druckmann and Nolan North (Nathan Drake) don't get alone well so Uncharted 5 with Nathan Drake is very unlikely. Not interested in the Last of Us Part 3 (who is going to be zapped in the game early on, that formula is quite boring).

      • +1

Numbers haven’t been updated since June 21st 2020 when Sony confirmed more than 4 million units sold after 3 days of being released. By July 2020 was nearly 6-7 million sold.

If you keep repeating a lie1000 times, it doesn’t it will become true.

    • +1

A lot of the hate was "OMG THERE'S A TRANS CHARACTER AND ABBEY'S MUSCLES ARE TOO BIG 0/10 BTW I HAVEN'T PLAYED IT".

  • +6

I'm so amazed at the minefield this game creates whenever it's posted. Even 2 years after it's release.

  • I won't play it anytime soon, may aswell wait for another $9-$15 sale

  • -1

People putting down this, stick to your Spyro guys.

  • +3

Just started replaying last week with the PS5 patch. Excellent game and its even better the second time round on survivor difficulty.

While its long for a third person action adventure (25 hours). I'd say its paced pretty well and the difficulty scales far better then something like Uncharted 4. Which is pretty much unplayable and no fun on hard difficulties.
And I think there are more dull sections in God of War then TLOU2.

It probably has the most memorable story for a AAA game in the last 5 years.

    Now I just need a RDR2 60 FPS upgrade.

No PS4/PS5 owner should pass on this game. Its better then playing Assassin's Creed 12 which takes 100hrs+ to complete, 5hrs of which are actually fun.

    • I'm in the PS4 boat and wondering if it's still worth playing with 30fps compared to PS5…

Had to stop because of digital dogs:(
