[NSW] David Jones Heat and Eat Indian Rice and Sauce Pouch $1 Each (Clearance) @ David Jones Elizabeth Street

170

Was walking around David Jones Elizabeth Street (Sydney) this morning and came across this bargain in the food section on the lower ground level. All $1 per pouch

  • Biryani rice
  • Dhal makani
  • Vindaloo
  • Bombay potatoes
  • Vegetable masala
  • Bulgar wheat and chickpea pilaf

I saw two guys at the store bring more out after the area was raided.
Haven’t tried them yet but surely they will be nice! Not sure of what the RRP was but for $1 it definitely is a bargain!

Yes but easily can add you own meat. The vindaloo is 4 serves but the Dahl, masala and potatoes is 2 serves

    Vindaloo: ready in 35 minutes

In fact, the rice and chickpeas are seemingly the only ones you can microwave. Not sure if I'd even bother, $1 for 250g of microwave rice isn't anything special and all the others besides the vindaloo are just sides like potatoes and lentils (which really don't take long or cost much)

It’s called convenience? People will pay $3 for bottled water when you can get it free from a tap!
The sauces say you can microwave or heat on stove. It’s only really the vindaloo that you cook with if you want to add raw meat

I get bottled water largely because the water coming out of my tap is terrible, 80c for 1.5L is nothing.

I've got 6x250g microwave rice for $2 which is really easy but so is a rice cooker. Normally one would prefer something to go with the rice anyway.

Vindaloo is the only one here I'd probably bother with. Suggested servings are often exaggerated, this probably would only feed 2 if you had 2 other sides as well as a main. Not so convenient now?

        Mostly water, 30% lentils
