Lowest price ever, I have been watching it for a very long time and accidentally saw that it was heavily reduced now.

It is one of the best knife sharpening kits as per Project Farm.

PS There is an opinion that it is not suitable for big kitchen knives. I am not able to speak for myself because I have not used it yet, but from searching on the internet it is doeable by either shifting the clamp along the blade or using a spare clamp which is sold as spares. I sharpen my knives very rarely so I will try to shift it along the blade if I find out my knives are too long.

    Good price for this particular product. Pretty good if you are only looking to sharpen smaller knives like pocket knives.

    However, you can get cheaper sharpening systems on AliExpress that does the job just as good and with bigger knives too.

            Watch some youtube vids, practise on some piece of crap from kmart.

            I won't lie, it can be a dull (haha boomboom) process especially if you've lots of knives but really it's the only way to go.

            EDIT: But if you don't have any particularly nice knives I probably wouldn't be bothered and would just buy a cheap pull through jobby.

        Minosharp 3 wheel is fantastic for Japanese knives or if you have euro knives a pull through metal one will suffice

          Pull through carbide sharpeners are rubbish and will destroy any knife no matter where it's made.

          I've got one of those on the way (fingers crossed). This will be my second version of the Riuxin. The videos seem to show they've addressed some of the issues that annoyed me the first time, and that one sharpened quite well. Prices fluctuate wildly and it's sold under a lot of names.

          • @AlbyDuck: I am tempted to get this one too now. Mine from 3 years ago had the knife holder parallel to the ground which is quite annoying on really small knives. This one seems be to angle upwards, seems like a really good idea that solves the issue.

            What issues did you have with your current one?

            • @thispasito: The knife would move about. The clamping mechanism is pretty basic. You have to take the knife out of the mechanism to turn it around to sharpen the other side. The new version allows you to rotate the whole clamping mechanism with the knife in place. There's a wingnut in the original design that limits the angle you can sharpen at. I'm not sure that's been fixed, but hopeful. The new one clamps to a table, the old one requires a wet teatowel underneath to stop it moving (which it still does).

              • @AlbyDuck: Ah right, we must have had different models or something. Mine is almost exactly like this one but the knife holder is not angled towards the sky. I hope you issues are solved with the new purchase.

                • @thispasito: Thanks. The angle is 15 degrees btw. You can use a smartphone app to get the angle of the knife to level. Add 15 and that's your sharpening angle. I think mine must be a pretty old model. Looking forward to trying the new one. Cheers

      Any specific systems on Ali? I had pretty bad lack with Aliexpress lately. Unless you specifically know what you are getting you may feel like a guinea pig - tens of items purchased around New Year time which are essentially not fit for purpose. But some simple items were pretty good.

      • I bought the Lansky system off Massdrop 4-5 years ago and it was decent. You can still sharpen the longer knives but you would have unclip and shift the knife up or flip the knife.

        Then I bought one off Ali about 3 years ago which is VERY similar to this one (I noticed the price has gone up. I got mine for about 35AUD free shipping). It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be though and mine didn't come with instructions on how to put it together. Once I got everything figured out, it worked quite well. I recommend going with the diamond stones as the oil stones didn't work too well for me at all. I use the 1000 grit diamond to sharpen and finish on a regular whetstone at 6000 grit.

        By bigger knives, I am talking about chef knives and longer.

    My biggest problem with these sharpeners is the stones keep separating from the plastic holders. Easily fixed with some new glue but I've had it happen to 4 stones now across 2 kits, so must be an issue with the factory glue.

    Got this for 90 or so a while back.
    Great price.
    I prefer this to the faux apex I bought a while ago.
    I'll sharpen my knives every 6 months or so with this.
    Would happily buy again.

    I don't think there's a huge benefit in build quality between the knockoff Asian Apex pro copies and this - the guides / rails and screwing them in seems like a flimsy design.

    I do find this much easier to use then the apex knockoffs though. And i don't feel as bad about blatant theft of r&d / IP etc.

    Stupid how lansky doesnt include a stand

    • you hold it in the hand.
      when you want to do the other side, you just flip it around.
      to have a stand would require some way of rotating it
      - the previous knock off apex pros (riuxin etc) didn't have the ability to rotate - you had to unclamp and reclamp (or just not use a clamp)
      - I think the newer versions have a rotating clamp

    This will suit many people, but i bought and sold mine. Few problems
    - stones are just too small to do fast work. Even with the higher grit stones things are still slow. Expect 10 minutes + for each large knife. It gets tiring.
    - the design of it means you are moving your hand across the blade edge with every stroke, and holding this very small grip area. It's quite a dangerous design even though i never slipped once.
    - the angle-holding jig thing is pretty finnicky.

    I sold this and just got a Naniwa chosera 1000 - though an 800 would have been a better choice. The stone is huge, the surface area is amazing. It cuts fast, clean, and wears very slowly. With a bit of practice a big knife will take less than 5 minutes the frist time, and touch up might be a minute. The learning curve is longer though. For anyone prepared to invest a bit of time to learn a whetstone i'd recommend it over this lansky 1000x over.

    I've had a lansky kit for a decade and it works brilliantly for shirt knives and terribly for longer knives

  • I bought a Work Sharp WSKTS electric years ago. It was about twice the price of the Lansky kit at the time. Occasionally you need to buy new belts but it is incredibly fast and very versatile. From filleting knife to spade and mattock. Everything I have is sharpened by the one tool.

    After much research a couple of years ago I bought a RUIXIN Pro and haven't looked back. Amazing value for around $45 AUD shipped. Available from many sellers, including Amazon.

      100% agree. I have both.

      Ruixin:
      - much cheaper especially after you add in a mount for the lansky system
      - easier to use due to the fixed pivot point, you just screw adjust the height
      - safer to use because your hand doesn't need to cross past the blade's edge at all
      - you can set and forget the system as the whole thing stays together

      Lanksy:
      - If you don't take care of them the lansky will not rust as easily as the Ruixin, but you might as well buy an updated Ruixin at that point, they've updated it a few times in the last couple of years
      - Buy it now for fun, or repurpose the stones for your Ruixin as this is the lowest price I've seen for the lansky system so far

      • Indeed, the Lanksy C clamp is $50 alone, and I still don't think it would be as sturdy as the Ruixin.

        There are also lots of mods and spares on Ali for the Ruixin. Most of this seems to be driven by demand from Russian customers. They really seem to be into sharp knives over there!

    My father used to be a butcher back when they had to sharpen their own knives. He taught me, so all I use is a few different grit diamond plates and then get out the old Sheffield steel with the bone handle (60-70 years old).

    What I have found good for the final honing is the Furi Diamond Fingers. It will get you very close to shaving standard if your initial sharpening is good. Three run-throughs every couple of days and you can cut razor thin tomato slices. Just recently bought a new one for $20 with a free delivery deal.

    This won’t work well if your knife is dead flat blunt. You need to get the edge first.

  • I have a chinese copy of one of these and it is quick to set up and does a good job. This is supposedly an original and what I would have preferred. I presume the stones are of a better standard than the copy.

    Did a great job at the time, but lead me to the ultimate.
    Wicked Edge diamond stones kit.
    Thousands $$$ later it had to become a retiree's cashy knife sharpening business to justify cost.
    Worth a look for those interested, a great forum also, talk direct to the creator.
    Developed over years with much input from customers.

  • Almost every review on youtube seems to be for sharpening pocket knives.

    Can imagine it will be a bit clumsy when working on kitchen knives….so will pass.

  • I have the lansky diamond set and I use it to sharpen smaller chefs knives. Mainly a victorinox chefs knife and a couple of global ones. It works well, but it does take a while. Well it takes a lot longer if you leave your knives for a long time between sharpening them as then you need to get all of the chips etc with a rough grit. I bought a king whetstone set a few years back but it was just too hard to get the angle right and I couldn't be bothered to practise.

  • I have a global cleaver that doesn't fit in my Global 2 stage sharpener, can anyone recommend a sharpener? Do I need to learn how to do it properly with a whetstone?
