    what's snow leapard?

    • OS

    • Jesus… negged by 8 Mac elitists. Typical. I bet that you all look like that smug Joshua chap from the link, too… whilst blogging on your Macbook Air in the local coffee shop.

Snow Leopard? It's an operating system. You've probably never heard of it.

I don't like Windows, but I'm not ignorant about XP, Vista, 7 and 8. Nor do I feel the need to stereotype Windows users. Grow up.

Snow Leopard? Yeah, just another flavour of Unix. You've probably never heard of it.

  • I don't get this.

    I followed the link… https://www.me.com/snow-leopard/

and it logged me into me.com with a message saying that I should go to iCloud.

I go to iCloud and there's nowhere that mentions this deal. i.e. only have :
MAIL CONTACTS CALENDAR FIND MY IPHONE IWORK

    wtf?

Do you ever bought MobileMe account from Apple ? it is only for those users.

  • It's basically a free Operating System upgrade for those who are using versions older than 10.6 - codenamed "Snow Leopard" - so that they can use iCloud. This must be the minimum requirement for iCloud.

It's not the latest version (Currently 10.7 "Lion" until 10.8 "Mountain Lion" is released later this year)

Therefore this only applies to the few people who are still running 10.5 "Leopard" and earlier, who are also MobileMe subscribers. AFAIK MobileMe is going to be replaced by iCloud, hence the move.

    • According to the link you need Lion, they're giving Snow Leopard away for free so that you can install it then pay for Lion.

    The link is: https://secure.me.com/account/?flow=snowleopard

Sign in with your MobileMe details and then you'll get a copy of Snow Leopard (a version of Mac OS X).

  • Rubbish! I did as per above comments, all it did was log me into mobileme, did a search for myiPhone and then logged me into the icloud account, NO mention of free Snow Leopard anyware.!

  • it doesn't work for me either. it always redirect me to find my iphone with icloud!

    • same happening with me also

    Chuppa's link worked.
    Click on the link.
Log on to your mobileme acount.
    Then submit.
It will then say that they will send you the Snow Leopard via mail.
    Thanks Chuppa!

  • Awesome! Finally worth upgrading my sisters macbook

    Just tested, this works:

    http://www.ubuntu.com/

PS - It's the latest version not an upgrade to an old version of the OS :-P

    • +1

      Excellent!

Actually with that install you can choose to add free flavours of either Leopard or Snow Lion:

Some of the options can be found via this Google search

  • ok whats the trick to get this working….im getting the same as others about going to "find my iphone" page

    • I am definitely not a Mac user but any chance that this "free" upgrade path is ONLY to upgrade "Mac OS-X" (ie. laptops, desktops incl. MacMini and perhaps OS-X servers); and is NOT an upgrade path for "Apple iOS" (ie. iPad's, iPod's and iPhone's).

I ask this because I note that a number of those who say they've been unsuccessful appear to be trying to do it from their iPhone…..??

As a non Apple user I'm probably wrong on this.

    • +1

it HAS to be done from a non iOS device - eg Laptop etc.

  • Worked for me, thanks.

  • Who wouldn't have SL by now? Not being a dick, but seriously why?

    • Probably because Apple charges for upgrades.

      • Car companies also charge for services, yet they pay for them.

        • Not everybody can/wants to pay for an upgrade - e.g. it's highly unlikely I will be upgrading to Mountain Lion, because I don't care one jot for making MacOS more like iOS, which seems to be what this release is about.

  • Didn't work for me too.

So after I logged in, and was directed to the find my iPhone/iPad page, I manually entered the address https://me.com/snow-leopard

It then asked for my password again.

(Now I can't remember whether I had to enter the address once or twice)

Then a page came up asking me to confirm the address to mail Snow Leopard too!

    Thanks to the OP!

  • really? you pay twice as much for a MAC

and apple charges you for 'updates'?

    • +1

*You're an idiot. These aren't 'updates', they're complete OS 'upgrades', which MS charge for too,
      www.microsoft.com/AU/Upgrade

*The difference? Apple charge $31.99 for Lion. Not $100s, with a stupid amounts of 'editions'.

*It's a Mac not MAC. MAC is the id your network card has.

*Macs aren't 'twice' as much. They are slightly more for better build quality and warranty cover/process

*You might think hating Apple makes you cool, but your arguments just make you look ignorant.

  • A nice shiny Snow Leopard DVD arrived by FedEx today :)

Now to use it to upgrade the sisters Mac
