    Nicely organized post. Cheers OP

  • Most are out of stock everywhere for me

    • Same here, Eltham VIC says one in stock, not bloody likely.

  • Wow in stock, anyone know if you can use the valvoline 5-30 for a 2008 Camry, In the past I have used same viscosity but dexos lf1299.05v5

    • Yeah for sure you can. For an older car though I'd go for something like a 5w-40. 10w30 if you don't want to spend a lot on oil for an old car.

    • If you want to be technical, that oil does not have API or ILSAC certification and it shouldn't be used in ambient temps of >10C which Toyota demands in the user manual for your car (pg 229). I'd probably still give it a go though.

That chart makes no sense. It says use 5w-30 for up to 10C anticipated temps, but then also says 10W-30 can be used for temps beyond that. Doesn't make sense given the '30' is the operating temp

        • The only difference would be the higher stability of 10W-30 due to less Viscosity Index Improvers being used vs 5W-30. That being said, oils have improved since the 2AZ-FE was released in 2002, I wouldn't have any problem using 5W-30. That oil still doesn't have API or ILSAC certification though.

      • If you're talking about the SynPower XL-III - yes it is rated for API SP, SN Plus, SN, SM.

Datasheet is in the link from the post.

I'm using this link from your post:

          https://www.sclegacy.valvoline.com/en-australia/our-products…

The PDF datasheet from that link does not mention any API ratings, only:

          ACEA C3
          VW 504.00 / 507.00 Approved
          MB 229.51 Approved
          BMW LL-04 Approved
          Porsche C30

@Dogsrule: My bad, ignore my last post. I went through the SDS link and searched XL-III which turned up the superseded XL-III C3.

@Junk Sifter: All good. All that being said, I would probably still use it in a basic Toyota engine, they are pretty tolerant.

  • anyone tried this 5w-30, any good?

  • XL-III fits my car, hardly see any offers for it, too bad no stock in SA, or at least near me

Thanks for posting, picked up a bottle of SynPower and a filter for $24 after Auto club discount.

Thanks, the Valvoline is also VW504/507 approved and great for almost all the modern VW/Audi. Got 2 bottles delivered this morning.

I managed to get 6 x Valvoline Synpower for my VW Amarok. On line was limited to 2 per transaction but no limit to the number of transactions!

Castrol Edge Diesel 0W-40 5L (C3) - best value of all time at $17 (because FST is used in the Castrol product, and the valvoline C3 rated here doesn't have it)

Can be used in ALL VEHICLES, medium saps content, high HTHS…. even in DPF equipped diesels, although I'd use C1 or C4 instead for those. This is a very premium product.

    • I couldn't find the specs at the time of posting but now that you mentioned C3 it rang a bell: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/586662

You're right, though unfortunately Castrol has made the spec sheet unavailable to the public.
