$65 180-Day eSIM-Compatible 15GB Unlimited Calls/Text Prepaid Mobile Plan @ Woolworths Mobile

860

For those of us who need two numbers, don’t wanna carry two phones, and have only one sim slot and an esim spot (hello iphone owners) then this seems to be the cheapest esim compatible number on Telstra infrastructure.

Obviously the data doesn’t (shouldn’t) matter because you would use the data off your physical sim plan (hello Boost).

Plus u get $10% off your half price Woolies buys once a month.

PS does anyone know what the process is like for enabling the esim?

Hope it helps someone.

Enjoy!

Ours does. We make money from having this plan.

Cheapest is Vodafone 12 months prepaid at $150 minus 25% cashback

    • +3

$112.50/month after claiming cashback BUT it’s on Vodafone. A good suggestion but voda is super crappy where I am.

      • Doesn't Vodafone also offer a discount on ones second sim plan against first plan?,. probably postpaid only if I remember rightly

      • +5

but voda is super crappy where I am.

        Where is that? Australia?

      • Depends on where you live. At my place, Telstra is the worst.

        • Optus here sort of if I drive 10 minutes down the road then I'll get over 1000 Mbps over 15 Mbps at home, come on Optus bring 5G to my place, I ain't getting younger, literally lolz
          Speed Test Here

    • +1

Yeah but then you're on Voda

      • Soon that will be a bonus when Telstra roaming kicks in

    • How much data? And international calls?

    • I moved to that plan from boost and vodaphone network is quite bad compared to telstra. Often i have to dial a number 2-3 times before it makes a call. The internet speed is very slow in many places( my home , my Gym ) that its painful to even check emails sometime. I still have until august next year and was planning to use up the data and than switch early but the internet is so slow i am finding it hard to use it up. For instance if I watch a youtube video on the go it would only play in 360p without buffer which uses less data. Overall i would advice to stay clear of vodaphone if you are in Adelaide.

Nice find OP,.. glad too see now one can get an e-sim other then the big 3x telcos 👍😁

    • Haha no problem. Good to share my research!

    • +1

Felix have e-sim. I’m trialing it now.

      • Loved felix. When they get volte and vowifi I’ll come back

        • yeah I had to leave as no VoLTE and Wi-FI Calling was unbearable

  • +5

I've been waiting ages for WW to support eSIM… Sadly they don't yet support wearables…
    More waiting.

    • +3

I’ve been waiting for them to enable Wifi Calling.

  • Any other non big 3x telcos doing e-sim apart from WW now and the 3x big telcos, love to know what options are out there for e-sim

And I guess this deal is prepaid e-sim with WW?

    • Prepaid, yep.

      • Any others providers you might know that does prepaid or post-paid e-sim?

        • Big 3 plus gomo and WW

        • +1

          Lebara does esim now.

    • Moose Mobile also does esim now

      • Libra I think is Vodafone, correct me anyone??? Is Moose Optus?

        • Lebara is Vodafone yep. And mouse is Optus

          • @fozzie: Is Moose a tiny mouse, by chance have you tried Optus Moose compared to Optus simcard in your area I'd say with Optus there the same?

            • @Italkdigital: Ahhha typo! I have Optus in my iPad and seems same reception as my current Telstra (Sydney metro).

      • Moose mobile has 12 month contracts. Their smallest prepaid is only 300 minutes not u limited calls. Weird limitations.

      • I was mistaken - Moose Mobile do not offer esim yet

        • Any other providers with Optus that do? Maybe Vodafone is more desperate then Telstra or Optus, actually was there a provider with Telstra offering an e-sim? need to start making a list

    • Amaysim does esim. Using it right now in my iPhone 12 😉

  • On iPhone, is it possible to block calls not from contacts on one sim and not the other? My old phone number gets spam calls and I have been leaving it in an old phone at home and just checking it occasionally for anything important. Would be great to be able to transfer my new number to an esim, put my old sim in my phone, but block calls that aren't in my contacts that are to my old sim so I don't get spam calls but can still get calls from people I don't have in contacts, to my current number. Hope that makes sense

    • Good question wonder the same for Android mobile phones, I've got a Dual sim Note 9 I can check out later but I need too insert 2 simcards in it to get to those particular settings, nope I'm not an owner of iPhone yet

On Android you can block calls not on contact list but will it allow for individual sim that's the question

      • Yes. The settings can be different for each Sim. Done it before.

    Re: process for activating esim
    (from woolies website)

Yes you can convert your physical SIM card to an eSIM (on a compatible device) by using the Woolworths Mobile app. To move to eSIM you will need to be connected to wifi and have access to another device to scan your QR code

Should be in Options > Sim Card according to their FAQ page

    • Thanks mate. I’ll report back on how I go.

  • Enabled an eSim on iPhone 13 on Optus last week and the process was simple.

Contacted live chat to port the number over and then selected an eSim plan.

Once I paid for it I was sent an email, which had a link going to the Optus app. The Optus app then downloaded the eSim settings and I set which number was the primary.

Pretty easy process, just need to make sure you have wifi

  • +2

Good to see the MVNO's finally providing eSim options.
Will be much better when they enable number share (or equivalent) for use in wearables.

    • Well just for postpaid plans usually one can forward too another number for free as usually included in postpaid plan, some pre-paid plans do this also but best ask for each provider also confirm for postpaid plans, as they don't always advertise the details on this, yes number share would be cheaper all the 3x big telcos offer it for $5 on top of the usual postpaid price plan but this is a work around forwarding to another e-sim number, but returning the call on the watch for example the phone number of course be the same as your main number

  • +3

    To enable eSIM :

    1. Log in to the Mobile App
    2. Select the "Options" tab, and tap on "SIM Card"
    3. Select "Change to eSIM"
    4. Follow the prompts to change to or get a new eSIM

Please note that the 15GB is provisioned upfront, rather than drip-fed over the 180 days

    • So I can order an esim without needing a physical sim first?

      • +3

You do need a physical SIM first. You can just buy one at any Woolworths store and activate it via the website, then change to eSIM once it's activated

  • +4

Upvote solely because they offer e-sim. Looking at you Boost >:(

  • +1

Switched to wws recently, speed is not where closer to boost. Luckily still WFH so internet speed is not really an issue. Might have to change once back to the office

  • Nice if Belong would offer e-sim, Telstra can you hear me lolz

    • +2

I'm still waiting for Belong to introduce voicemail…

      • Can't have everything for $10 a month lolz sarcasm 👍🤪 though you sure? I'll have to check with my Belong plan, don't you just use the Telstra codes to activate voice-mail from keypad? Somehow? Honestly I hate voice-mail at times but it's good to know if it's available

        • Left belong ages ago, but you used to have only 10-sec message through mms. You can’t change or record your own outgoing message either. No VoLTE. Telstra literally made it worse than other third party resellers.

          • @jezza p: And they bumped the minimum plan of $10 now to $15, plan is perfect for mum at $10 and my second number to keep it alive, I still try to get those $80 packs and place them on other people's name to get the $20 (or is it $25) referal bonus and bonus with the 80gb of data, great they let data top up without any expiry dates, otherwise I would've left them too like you

            • @Italkdigital: I just realised I actually have one $80 pack sitting in my draw that I have no use of. haha. I only used Belong because it was free (I got 2x $80 sim pack when I signed up for their broadband).

  • Only if there are more MVNO’s that offer prepaid esim with wifi calling…

  • Is this really the cheapest way to maintain a number? I thought Vodafone was cheaper assuming you don't want any inclusions at all..or do they not offer those cheap 365 day prepaid plans anymore?

    • They still offer those plans

    • +3

Buy $50 Vodafone prepaid for $18 (current promotion: $40 sim for $15), activate it as pay go plan and you can have a full 365 days to maintain the number.

      • Can you share link for the $50 for $18 promotion please? Their website is showing full price.

        • It is back to the full price now, it was $18 last week. Only the $40 sim is on sale at the moment.

          • @T-man: Thank you. Noticed their $40 Prepaid Plus Starter Pack is on sale for $15 but has 28 day expiry. Is that the one you are referring to?

            • +1

@a real bargain: Yes that is the one, buy it and when you got the simcard, activate it as pay and go plan online, do not choose the $40 prepaid plan, so you will get 365 days pay and go plan.

      • Or Use ALDI PAYG plan $5 for the first year, recharge $15 for another year to just keep the number.

    • +1

I use a $10 amaysim PAYG recharge to maintain my old number. Spend is usually test messages so use varies - it gets topped up every 6-8 months.

    • +1

Depends on whether you need outgoing text or call. I park mine at an Optus Flexi prepaid eSIM. Charge $1 every 180 days

      • How doss this work? The Optus Flexi plans I see are all much more than $1 per 180 days. Please can you elaborate. Thank you.

    • The cheapest way to retain a number is a $5 Sim from Aldi for 365 days.

      • Only for the first year. Subsequent PAYG min top up is $15 and lasts a year.

  • So I need a new iPhone for this deal ??? two hands two guns should be fine

Using Dual SIM with an eSIM
An eSIM is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a mobile data plan from your service provider without having to use a physical nano-SIM. With iPhone 13 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, you can use Dual SIM with either two active eSIMs or a nano-SIM and an eSIM. iPhone 12 models, iPhone 11 models, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR, feature Dual SIM with a nano-SIM and an eSIM.1

  • Using this plan and a Telstra data sim 5GB slowed down to 1.5Mbps for "unltd" data. Comes to a total of about $15 a month, which pays itself through the 10% off shop per month (which you can use twice a month - once in shop / once online)

  • Ahh until a couple of months ago we were able to use the 10 percent twice, one online and one instore. Their crappy IT team finally caught it. Lol.

    • +1

The same crappy team that broke pricehipster

      • Still works for me guys

  • The cheapest is Catch Mobile, $29/90Days, 20GB of data in total.

    Note: No international roaming

  • I wonder if other MVNO are following suit real soon?
