  • It’s crazy Mario kart 8 is still this highly priced…

    • Could be because of the new tracks they have announced

      • +2

Which come at an additional cost.

      • and here I was thinking it was likely on sale because of the new dlc announcement. Nintendo never drop their prices. It's been that way for decades

        • MK8 is on sale on the eshop at the moment

          • @soxinthebox: They do have the odd sale. A permanent reductions rare but. Even then on sale most of their titles will be over $50.

Mario Kart essentially never has more than 1 mainstream release per a console generation too so Nintendo doesn’t generally have to price older releases against a new version on the same hardware.

            @soxinthebox: That's not a Nintendo made game.

            • @Xianese: They’re referring to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

    • Was just thinking same. Must hold the record for staying at full price for so long. Has it been out 10 years yet? I had it and finished it on Wii U and refused to pay for it again thinking Kart 9 might eventually drop. Alas … No

  • pokemon games look to be $10 off each aswell

  • What's the cheapest price MK8 has ever been?

    • +2

Digital $53.30, Physical $49.00 according to DekuDeals

      • +1

Not sure i trust the physical pricing history on there since every game i selected had the same low of $49 for physical

        • +2

I got it for 49, it was in a lightning deal on Prime Day.

That's how most of those prices come about.

          • @HolyFosh: That makes sense then wonder when the next flash sale would occur. At $49 you could essentially resell for what you paid for the game in most cases

            • +1

@Kamppinator: There was no $49 deal over the Black Friday/Cyber monday/prime day sale last year as i was watching a few games on amazon. Prices seem to be staying at $58 or so last year for any sale. I didn't end up buying any as i still have a backlog of games to play. It might be the global trend that everything is more expensive these days.

  • Amazon used to match Eshops digital pricing about 2 or 3 years ago, surprising they won't match the 54

Where all the people that bought it on Eshop for $5 less ?

I hope you enjoy your 0 resell value hehe :)

      • +1

Also there are no refunds on eshop purchases.

If you get a dud game you're stuck with it.

      • Its Mario Kart, the #1 game to have on the console at all times

        Unlimited pickup and play value

  • +3

Buy physical, can resell later for very close to full price.
I sold Mario Kart Wii for $50 literally 13 years after purchase.

    • Agreed definately buy physical.

Although I will say You got very lucky and the buyer overpaid - was it during COVID when older game prices went whack for a bit? Mk Wii is probably worth $25-30 tops on the reseller market - there's literally 10s of millions of copies of it. I would expect popular switch games to end up similar price range in 10 years due to high volume sales.

      • Yep was during covid.
That said even $30 is a good price for something so old vs nothing vs digital.
I think the prevalence of large sales on digital will actually help physical keep a higher % of value in the future.

  • Thanks! Snagged one

  • They seem to be price matching Catch for all these markdowns. Clubbing it with this makes it sweeter than OP

  • Thanks. Extra $10 off with MAX10 on Amazon app.
