  • Can you load them all in one go, getting 6 months without the hassle of recharging monthly?

    • Yes, it recharges automatically and you get about 5.5 months.

  • +7

i feel rorted paying 9.95 for this

  • -2

Not as good as last week but better than yesterday.

    Was previously available for $3.46😉
Using 15% off Groupon code + 15% CR cashback + TARGETED CR $5 credit on $5 spend

Considered then, but didn't buy as already bought 6 full months of 15GB Circles.life in similar priced Groupon Deal. (Just need to be careful understanding Circles t&c.)

Paying for 2GB/28d isn't that useful to me.
Still getting through the many free Amaysim 2GB SIMs

    • "Just need to be careful understanding Circles t&c."

      Why's that?

      • +1

Unlike prepaid Amaysim with easy port out or simply stop auto-payment, Circles.life is a post paid service.

If you aren't careful, unlike prepaid - it can cost far more than expected! So its not popular here.

Post paid with Circles means month-to-month billing. Starting on 1st of month until end of month.
If you start part way through the month, they charge additional pro rata of full month cost ($10 in Groupon offer) with no discount. Included 6 months starts from next month.
But if start on 1st of month - its charged full month @ full price…

So need to activate early on last day of month! Took minutes to be active.
And give notice early when you are leaving or port out with enough time for port to complete before end of month! Some were charged for extra month as they ported out on last day (which works on prepaid), but SIM was still active at start of following month!

(Amaysim SIMs remain usable for incoming calls & SMS for a year after this service runs out without recharge! Pretty handy.)

Sounds complex, but I've done it many times in Circles Deals here with no problems. It's much better explained now with videos in FAQ.

Activated on 31/1/22, charged 30c for January to first bill. Will notify in June to terminate service at end of July. (I don't port to be safe, just use as 2nd SIM in phone.)

Watch your data use - it can be an expensive surprise (1c/MB) & you will be billed if you exceed 15GB/mth!
(You can add 3GB for $10 extra.) They keep you informed of usage by SMS, but like most telcos it's delayed.
So set data limits on your device & check usage in app! (I've used 5GB of 15GB in half month with little streaming. Streaming could quickly exceed limit.)

If that's too scary (or the t&c do your head in) for 15GB & 6 full months of service at similar price - go with this easier offer!

Then have 1c Kogan SIMs to last to end of year😉

        • That sounds like a load of crap to me, though - Like the super old days of mobile telcos when each text message cost like 20c and data was like $15/10mb.

Why would you deal with the sheer effort and inconvenience of avoiding all these methods that you can get fleeced?

It's faaar easier and safer by the sounds of it to either buy this sort of amayasim 6 month deal - and apparently the same price if I understood you correctly - And if you're just desperate to save every penny, it's still easier to buy a dozen $1 sims from different carriers and just port back and forth between them once a month.

So why would you ever go with them?

          • @Grazz989: Simple: 90GB & 6 full months of service against 12GB & 5.5 months!

That's a big difference in data (that I want) for about same price! Only use data on mobile, so 2GB/28d is almost useless!

I've used Circles many times before (usually $1 for 100GB/mth) & happy to use again. Never been charged any unexpected amount. (just amounts like the 30c extra for 1 day I knew about).

Listed a full set of warnings (as I've done in Circles Deals for years) - most do not apply to my use. Just when to start & stop service, to get best deal. So not much for me to keep in mind. I always set a monthly limit on data - for all providers

Your suggestion of Porting back & forth every 28 days is not fun long term.

Rather, I keep a permanent number (in dual SIM phone), on a cheap / free long term prepaid plan. That way I never need to port.

I've been picking up free or cheap (or even paid for using SIM - with cashback) SIMs to make calls & data for many years.

eg using free Amaysim 2GB SIMs for months. Will use 1c/28d 30GB Kogan SIMs after 6 months.

6 months between changes is much better! Took up the Amaysim 6mth 150GB for $15 (after $60 cashback) - changed my mind on using monthly SIMs!

Set up a Wiki here about 7 years ago to explain how to get the most out of (Telstra) SIMs & save money.
            So I know what I'm doing😉

            • @INFIDEL: Is that 90GB/60mo deal an ongoing thing or a previous one-off? What's the monthly cost? … The only thing I could find on OzB was $15 for 55GB for 6 Months. Now obviously 55GB is a lot more than 12GB, but it's also more than double the monthly cost, even without any potential gotchyas.

How'd you get the $1 for 100GB/mo deal? For that kind of deal yeah obviously I can understand the appeal, but even for your 90GB deal I'd have to be real thirsty for data and be willing to put up with that 1990's era nonsense billing and fee nonsense. Porting back and forth between SIMs isn't exactly fantastic I'll agree, but it's something you can forget about and deal with on the day, and if you forget and your old one expires first it's nbd. Not sure it's any worse. If you want you can slurp up every MB of data and then port early …

Personally I've also got a dual SIM phone, so I'd be more inclined to a cheap 6mo deal like this Amayasim one, and then when I need to, slotting in a secondary 30GB/mo $1-2 SIM which is available so often you can stockpile them ….

I'm sure you know what you're doing, it's just it doesn't seem surprising to me that they're not popular on OzB because they seem to be in a niche between the real penny pinchers that will run 30GB one-offs and churn to get more twice as much data as a 90GB plan at a better price … And the average person who's just happy to go with 6mo plans with whatever amount of data they need and maybe churn once a year on that basis without having to deal with what time of the month to sign up on or potentially going over data caps and getting stung etc. I don't wanna have to set up data caps on my phone (IDK if it would even track WiFi and cellular data separately? I've not had to worry about data usage for like 10 years!) especially when I tether it (/WiFi hotspot) all the time. Obviously sometimes you get the best of both worlds like with that 150GB $15 deal, but yeah putting aside those occasional gems …

              • @Grazz989: Past Groupon Deal less cashback. Gave my warning there!

Left it to last possibly day to redeem Groupon voucher & again in activating on 31/1.

I wouldn't recommend for novice (post paid) users. It takes more understanding than prepaid.

Search Circles.life for past ($1) deals.

I like to get the most out of Deals - it's a challenge getting discounts on discounts! Love it when I'm paid for products & services.

I no longer need to keep costs this low. Learnt long ago, that wealthier people can get the best bargains!

                • @INFIDEL: They do a credit check? Eww.

I mean, again - I get that for you perhaps the balance of bullshit to provided data is optimal, but you'd be in a slim minority. For most people either they want to get even more out of deals (and not having to deal with pro-rata first month + potential surprise shocks - hey, even the best of us can make a mistake and gobble up data every once in a while) so they'll go with churning free/paid-to-use sims, or on the other hand if bullshit counts as another form of a cost to someone, they'll just go with 6mo Amayasims or whatever hassle free options. It's not a matter of how advanced you are, just what flavour of bullshit is less of a pain for you, and how hungry you are for data.

                  • @Grazz989: As a month to month service, Circles is better suited to those who want to stay, rather than churn. Prepaid is better option for churners.

Credit check - it's an ongoing financial agreement (until you terminate) unlike prepaid.

I've written so long about traps of telcos, I'm used to being cautious. I don't like pain!

If you are likely to forget to port earlier than with prepaid - you can simply notify to terminate the service a month or 3 earlier (to terminate at end of 6mths) - no additional charges. Still can request port before end of service. As I don't port & often forget - suits me.

For those who understand, its attractive enough. I just grab what i want at the best price. So suits me.
But I do warn the unwary against it😉

                    • @INFIDEL: I mean … We've just spent a while discussing it, and I went and did some reading, so I understand. I get it.

But it's not attractive to me regardless though. Having to guess at how much data they'll charge me for vs. what my device meters? Having to blindly set a conservative cap and then carefully inch my way forward with data usage until a usage text comes randomly late within 48hrs?

And then if you want to port out there's another random set of hoops you need to jump through? Hard credit check every time you sign up?

At the end of the day, you can repeat 'well if you just read every single scrap of fine text, and jump through the hoops just the way they want it when they want it, then you can save a little money, and if you have any problems it's your own fault because it's buried in a FAQ somewhere …' and be technically correct but at the end of the day it's a scummy predatory model to use because they're banking on slapping unwary people with fees.

OzB people might be able to matrix dodge all the bullshit with some time & effort, but few would say it's worth that effort even if they understand the whole shebang. You may very well be right that they're suited to those who want to say - but that's not what we do here, not to get the best deal possible. Even if you stick with 6mo deals only, you'd still want the freedom to be able to swap from one carrier to another since there's always going to be great 5.5-6mo deals in a 6 month period of time - like that 150gb Amayasim one you mentioned. Then that expires halfway through the month and now you're looking at paying Circles an insulting fee to sign back up halfway through the month? Meh. Not a great deal to stay with at their regular price, and a pain to churn with - even if you only use 6mo deals. Again, not surprised everyone seems to hate them.

                      • @Grazz989: Everyone has different circumstances & requirements.

Seems this Deal is better for you!
Circles is better for me (more data).

I started using prepaid mainly for data 10 years ago - a different time! (Using 3GB/mth!)
I was on holiday overseas up to 9mth a year. So only required short term services here - prepaid suited that.

Currently stuck here rather than traveling, so forced to consider longer term (6mth max) Telco options. But with flexibility to quickly ditch the service. And keep costs down.

Planning on permanently travelling overseas… Hopping from country to country again. 2020 2021 Hopefully next year!

  • does anyone know how long does it take Amaysim to mail you the simcard and receive it?

    • About 1 week (considering auspost delivery schedule) from experience.

      • thanks then should have enough time to activate the sim before expiry date

        • should have enough time to activate the sim before expiry date

I thought amaysim sends out sims preactivated for our convenience

          • @docians: im not sure maybe others would know this since it was posted a couple of deals recently

          • @docians: As outlined in Deal Description:
Its a Groupon voucher you Redeem before: 21 Feb 2022

            Then Amaysim posts the SIM

If Porting existing number - you activate in Amaysim account… before 10 Mar 2022.

If order new number, SIM normally arrives activated & resets once used.

[Now resets service start date within 14d without use. Ordered free 2GB SIM on 26/1. Would have activated on next day when sent.
Envelope wasn't opened, but got welcome email on 9/2 - it had reset to start service on that date without being in use.]

          • @docians: Yeah they do activate when they send out if you choose a new number.

The only way to delay from experience is when you port. You simply don’t confirm the port until you need to.

            • @tonsta: Make little difference in this Deal!

Redeem voucher on last day: 20/2

New number SIM will be activated when sent - usually next day 21/2
Amaysim new system will reset service start date 14d later if unused ie 7/3

Porting existing number… needs to be done by 9/3!

  • Is it for the new customers only?

    • +2

No, but if you're an existing customer you need to get a new number or port in a number. So if you want to use this on your existing amaysim number, you need to port out first.

      • It says 'Not to be used in conjunction with an existing Amaysim service'. I took this to mean that it was only for new customers. I was considering this deal with a new number but decided not to purchase as I am already on a 12 month Amaysim prepaid service so I figured I would not be eligible. I find the wording of fine print confusing at times.

        • +2

That means can't add to / recharge existing phone service. Can't use existing Amaysim number with new offer. System wont allow it. (I've tried)

But should be add to existing account (2 phone services). I've regularly done that.

        • +1

Yes, it can be confusing but 'existing Amaysim service' means existing amaysim number, not existing customer.

          • +1

@coldlamb: Ah gotcha! Thanks for clarifying. Sounds like I am able to get this and have a second service with new number on my account after all.

  • Buy or hold?

    • Buy. This will be your last chance before the Groupon deal itself ends tonight.

      • What if there is another Groupon deal tomorrow?

        • There might be, but only available between midnight and 3am AEDT for three hours.

  • After the Groupon promo code finishes (6 x 28 days renewals), the normal prices will apply: ; if you do not wish to continue your amaysim service it must be cancelled according to the instructions outlined at the website

would this be any different to stopping autorenew?

if yes is the cancellation process difficult eg you have to call this number and you will be on hold for hours

    thanks

    • You should be able to easily cancel your number via online chat.

And instead of cancelling, it might be better to turn off auto renew and/or change your plan to PAYG to keep your number for another year or so.

  • -1

I bought it from last deal, Had used on one of these voucher like a year ago, Still cannot Use this new one, (Because the amaysim system is total CRAP)
There support is absolutely crap too. No one on the phone/chat is knowledgeable enough to assist me. (Other than putting me on a callback list that calls me only when I am at Job, (aka cannot answer phone that time) that too like 7-14 days after call back request, when they say 48 hrs.

So, will be complaining to groupon, for a full refund in orginal payment method (if they dont give full refund then, Chargebacking them)

    • … this is for existing users only. I wouldn't waste a charge back on this and be unable to access any future groupon deals…

      • You mean this is for new customers only ?

        • to rephrase: this cannot be used to recharge existing Amaysim number. Either claim new number or port out from Amaysim and then claim the coupon.

          • @No ONE: No From my experience cannot be used on a amaysim account that has any service on it.

I have one of these vouchers used on a another number (number is still active, but the plan had been expired for a long time)
The website just wont go ahead after checkout of $0 (aka cannot login, keeps saying try resetting password).

Only option is creating another amaysim account (with a different email).

I am trying to port a new number, but ofcourse amaysim has everything messed up.

            • @USER DC: well, of course you would use another email. If you have gmail, just add + and the whatever you want to name it. I ported out of Amaysim and claimed voucher and ported back in on the same day with $2 sim. I justed added another + string to my Gmail to show a new user.

tip: try entering the ported phone number instead of email to get password reset email.

              • @No ONE: One never has to change email with any other provider like Kogan, boost, optus etc. all literally all allow use of a port in voucher with same email (Kogan needs 30 days but others usually do not)
Only amaysim that doesn't allow me to use same email

tip: try entering the ported phone number instead of email to get password reset email.

Doesn't help in any way at all

  • +1

Bought one by mistake from the previous deal. Giving it away:

    Voucher Code
    FBP82G
    Security Code
    VD2AB33584

  • +1

guys, instead of the link given by groupon, I used a referrer link to put in the code. Just activated it. I still got the $10 referrer bonus from Amaysim.

Should not affect cashback/shopback as that is for purchasing the groupon, not amaysim.

  • Hey guys, this is to be activated today 10 March while my porting in is still in progress. Does anyone know it mean I become ineligible or that’s alright?

    • Not sure but it should be okay.

    • It turns out to be working. I have the SIM activated today and still got free renewals.
