Well timed, noticed beans were low seconds before reading this. Order placed.

    • way to look at it is $25kg and you need to buy 2kg …… so a few dollars more (competitive for small roaster) than supermarket options but maybe you like their roast better …… provided you can get rid of 2kg of coffee in reasonable time …… single person house hold could be a challenge if only 1 cup per day ….

  • Is this even good?

    Better than wollies ones?

    • Can't even compare - these are freshly roasted premium beans.

Woolies beans have been sitting on the shelf for lord knows how long…

That being said - if you're planning for stovetop then you might be better off with supermarket.

      • coffee doesn't Actually sit on the shelf for long as often there is no stock if on special …. some brands are roasted in Australia so could assume fresh, roasters probably don't keep 1 years supply of beans in warehouse due to cashflow …. lavazza, Illy if roasted in Italy might not be as fresh …. people in Melbourne seem to like Aldi possibly because roasted in Melbourne …..

seems even Vittoria package in Nitrogen , from their web site ,

        tep 4: Packing for Freshness
Packing coffee is an art within itself that is often overlooked. To retain freshness our coffee is packed into state of the art italian packaging equipment within minutes of being roasted. Vacuum packaging, one way value technology and the use of nitrogen further assist us in reducing any residual oxygen drastically improving the freshness of our product.

I think the time from roasting to the 1kg bag in Woolies or Coles is quick ….. as they also need to supply beans to Cafes,

lmao, no comparison. if your taste buds like stale supermarket grounds or beans, stick with that, it is so much cheaper.

if you have tastebuds, give fresh locally roasted whole beans a try, it's a game changer. grind just before brewing, and use it within a week or 2 at the most. those grocery store beans have been sitting there for months, if not years, ewwwww.

      • +1

Unless you have a family of 20 , I doubt you'll be able to finish 2kgs of coffee in a week or 2.

        • You can store them in your freezer.

          • @cynix: So then it again becomes same as a coffee from coffee shelf at supermarket, the only difference being that there is a greater chance that the coffee at the supermarket might have been a fresher stock because of the volumes of the sale.

            • -1

              @urahara: That is incredibly incorrect.

Coffee on the supermarket shelf oxidises at room temperature and stay on the shelf for a year or more.
Keeping surplus freshly roasted beans in a air tight container in the freezer will ensure that there is little oxidation occurring causing the beans to go stale and they can be portioned out.

              • @teacherer: stays on the shelf a year or more ….. if Vittoria in on special, the shelves empty quick ……. Woolies and coles don't keep a year supply in warehouse as people probably found out with supply chains during covid …..it would cost them too much in space and stock of even hold 3 mths worth of a product …..
I know Lavazza pack in nitrogen in the bag so doesn't oxidize …..

                • @garage sale: You know coles and woolies don't manufacture them right?

                  • @teacherer: i know they don’t manufacture …..rang vittoria customer service ….in coles warehouse after they roast in sydney within 2 weeks from roasting, and covid supply chains give you an idea of how little stock supermarkets actually keep in their warehouses from their suppliers ……. so a bag of vittoria is less than 4 weeks old when you buy it at coles or woolies ….. they roast in sydney and distribute nationally ….

lavazza and Illy are roasted in Italy so not as fresh as australian roasted beans …..

              • @teacherer: People swear by freezing but when I've run tests it's almost the same as leaving it in the original bag in a cool dry place.

I own a vacuum chamber and even with that freezing beans isn't much better. It sometimes tends to pickup freezer smell which is definitely worse than storing outside.

Pretty sure the idea freezing is significantly better is just placebo, and while some website tests say freezing is better, others say there's no discernible difference.

With a 1kg bag I just put 250g into into a vacuum canister each time.
That is the best you can do tbh.

          • @cynix: as the air chills, the moisture freezes and also draws the moisture out of the air …. haven't you noticed what happens to stuff in freezer, it dries out ….. freezer just slows oxidisation as chemical reactions slow at lower temperatures ……

pre-ground is an issue, the large surface area of ground coffee vs beans means oxidisation happens much quicker ….. if you want ground get it in small amounts from local roaster or small packs if from supermarket …..

            • @garage sale: That's true but air tight and even vacuum sealed (which will obviously involve no moisture) are the better than letting them stale in the cupboard. Also better than spending double on smaller batches of coffee.

          • @cynix: i wouldn't recommend that. only buy what you are going to use in a week or 2.

            • @Hugh G Rection: Haven't had any issues with freezing beans in a vacuum sealed bag so far. Obviously it would be even better if you could buy what you can consume in a week or two, but the cost would be higher that way as you won't be able to take advantage of deals like this.

        • lol, that's true. always buy what you can finish in a week or 2. you can also buy in bulk and split the cost with others.

"long running deal" is no longer a deal right? Keen to see if anyone else has tried them though… By the way I think we all got the free delivery point the first time, didn't need to mention it in every paragraph 👀

    • +2

This is all we ever buy, since the deal began. Great stuff. It's been a mild concern of mine, that if too many people found the page still worked, it might be removed. I've been living by Rule 1 of Usenet.

Average coffee price per kg is $17-18 from coles woolies aldi etc.

The square root of 9 is 3

Any love for Australian grown beans from you?
Had a quick look and South America seems to be where most beans are from?

    • +2

You freeze the rest, which is what a lot of ozbargainers do.

Great reason for a neg though.

      • +6

My thoughts exactly. Negging a deal simply because it may not be suitable for everyone seems like a bit of a reach.

        • +3

I wound up reporting it, because it's clearly in breach of the negative vote rules here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines#ina…

Got a message back that the mods are ignoring it. Apparently they have a very different interpretation of their own rules.

I'm going to start negging all the petrol deals because I don't own a car. It's not suitable for me, how is it a deal??11!!1!?

    • +1

      Portion out and freeze?

    • +2

      Strange neg vote.

I vacuum seal and freeze mine if i buy bigger amounts but anyone buying this deal could be buying it for their workplace or live in a sharehouse of 6 coffee drinkers for all we know

    • +1

Oh wow back again. Going to neg every coffee deal that is for more than you need? It's not even that ridiculous, if you have two people drinking 2 coffees each per day at 19g per shot it lasts less than 4 weeks. If you add a few extra coffees for when you have friends over and make 6 or 8 coffees it will be even less than this. There are many households who 2kg of coffee wouldn't be an absurd purchase for. That's without considering freezing which many are happy to do.

  • Freeze the rest

  • Ive bought beans from these guys for a number of years and have always been very impressed. We usually order the super crema variety. Great service also.

  • Hopefully this deal is still around next month. Still got a bit left

  • Tempting, but do not want to get too dark roast, 4/5 roast level.

  • Good coffee after a month of trying it out very nice flavour and too easy to drink in the morning

    • Clean hint of chocolate and something else I can’t relate to but it’s very smooth and easy to drink

  • +1

    So bloody good!

  • Could you do an offer on the decade for the wife if added with the reserve.

  • +1

Bumping these beans because its so good

  • Also bumping this. Beans are now being received via Auspost, not Aramex. Price is still the same. Awesome beans. I’m a bit scared that I’ll lose this deal to be honest. Other coffee companies had been posting so often I simply blocked them. Their prices were way higher.
