Diablo 3 Open Beta Weekend (April 21st - 24th)

2270

Not really a bargain, but since the BF3 beta was posted here I figured this could be as well.

Starts 5am AEST Saturday if my calculations are correct and ends 3am Tuesday.

We're pleased to announce the Diablo III open beta weekend, which offers open access to all players with a valid Battle.net account! Beginning this Friday everyone is invited to log in and help us put the game and servers through their paces in this three day stress test as we march toward the game's release on May 15. You can begin downloading the Diablo III client right now!

From Friday, April 20 at 12:01 p.m. PDT (noon), until Monday, April 23 at 10:00 a.m. PDT you'll be able to log in, team up with friends, and play each of the five heroic classes to level 13 as you fight to save the world from the impending demonic invasion.

What steps do I need to take?

Log in or create a Battle.net account at http://www.battle.net/
Create your BattleTag™ (https://www.battle.net/account/management/battletag-create.h…), which is required to play Diablo III (What is BattleTag?)
Download the game client (https://us.battle.net/account/download/index.xml), install, and play between 12:01 p.m. PDT April 20 and 10:00 a.m. PDT April 23

NVIDIA users:
Be sure to enable ambient occlusion in the Nvidia control panel. It makes the game look a lot better: http://international.download.nvidia.com/geforce-com/interna…

To enable Ambient Occlusion in the beta, open the NVIDIA Control Panel, browse to ‘Manage 3D Settings,’ locate the Diablo III profile in the list, and select one of the Ambient Occlusion quality settings before clicking ‘Apply'.

  • now it says "Player has been disconnected (Error 3005)"

  • +1

"The servers are busy are this time. Please try again later. (Error 37)"

I would give up a sandwich for this to work.

    • Getting this as well. Just saw the notice on the login screen. They've currently capped the amount of players. Darn, was hoping to play before work, but I suppose I can wait haha.

        at* Yarp.

    • +1

Yep awesome, wasted some of my precious bandwidth to be greeted with this BS message. Love it.

      • +2

        Not the preciousssssssssss!!!!!!

  • god damn it, they cap the number of players online at one time

    • Whats the point of "stress test" if they cap the number of players? lmao

    • it appear you have to keep trying for a while. only took a minute until the server let me in i am playing it right now

  • +1

    Error 37
    Error 3007

    damn does it even work?

    • +1

      yeah I got a error 37 a few times & now I'm in

  • +1

It works for me now. I loose connection every once and a while.

  • Finally got in. Damn 196000 people on now.

  • is the game freezing every few minutes for anyone else? it freezes for 5-10seconds and then comes back fine…

    • nope, playing fine

    • fixed it, I had by disabling PowerPlay in the Catalyst Control Center!

  • Their stress test working well…that is if you're wanting to find out how stressed your servers need to be so they stop working. battle.net is down atm.

  • +2

I think this is actually good news and the point of the whole stress test thing. It will give them a chance to see what needs to be done before the actual release date.

I would rather have problems now instead of then.

  • -7

This beta is crap it won't let you play beyond the first main boss. 1.5 hour playtime only! What a joke!

    • Which main boss? What level?

I'm only level 8 and so far the it's pretty good. I like how you can easily teleport to your friends.

      • I finished it when I was level 8, so I think you are very near him. He is the skeleton king.

    • +1

It's a beta… Why would they give you access to more than you need to test it?

      • Other game betas allow you to go much further than a couple of hours.

        • can you name a few?

    • +6

Get free access and complain. Typical… reminds of me centrelink bogans complaining that the government doesn't hand out enough money.

  • +1

Yay now i know it will be a waste to buy. Since was a poor clone of Diablo II. But killed a good couple of hours till end of beta.

  • Downloading at 100-150 KB/s. :(

    How big is the download?

  • Does the account delete after the beta or can we continue once the game is launched? I can't find an official statement on Blizzard's site but I wouldn't be too interested in doing the same quests again. :S

    • Yes, your characters will be deleted. However, it's only 1.5-2 hours long and you will be repeating the story numerous times anyway.

      • +1

I've played for 1 hour and 40 minutes and i'm only up to the quest under the cemetery. I think it's because i've blown up everything possible and found every hidden stash on the way. :D

  • +4

Thanks to the open beta, I now know that I won't be buying this game. Maybe for $20 after expansion comes out.

  • +1

    Very underwhelming game and graphics

  • +6

Tried it and was left unimpressed. Gameplay wise, it is really nothing special. All these hype for so little to gain :) I was planning to buy it before the beta, but after spending an hour completing the initiate level, I am now having second thoughts.

    • +1

Same here. Point and click is so 2010 :p

    • +1

      Yeah. Pretty similar to Torchlight.

    • Same but it remained true to its original. I'm still on the fence on this one, I like it if I wanted do some brainless grinding but it is lacking for 2012 game.

      • +3

inability to move with W A S D hurts my brain.
Limited to only 6 skills at any time makes me sadtoo

        • +1

that is true, definitely need key board movement, no jumping also suck.

        • +1

You can change key bindings in the settings.

    • +4

It's a Diablo game, that plays like a Diablo game. Not sure what else you were expecting.

I'm still a bit iffy about the 4 skills + mouse buttons thing though. Seems like you'd spend most of the time never using your secondary skills, which means you almost exclusively use the mouse. And without being able to zoom in it's not like you can choose a female character and zoom in to keep your other hand busy…

      • +1

        Try the Z key ;)

        • +1

Oh, so there is zoom? Sweet, now I can play with both hands……

  • I'm also a little disappointed in diablo 3… after I finished the beta I went straight back to my diablo 2 custom server. I will still get diablo 3 but I doubt I will play it as much as diablo 2.

  • if someone graphic card is not supported, you might still able to play
    http://eu.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/3735463854

    • Thanks Erwinsie. Work great on my laptop with intel 4 graphic card.

  • +1

Well at least I figured out I would need a bigger SSD.

15 gig install for the beta alone ain't gonna sit well with my 60gb SSD. Looks like those M4 Crucial specials are finally going to come in handy!

And FWIW, the game plays fine on my Q9650 /w GTX 470.

    • 15gb install??? the beta was just under 5gb for me?

  • I had massive lags on Sunday playing through to killing the Skeleton King. I hope they fix this before the full release…

  • I'm a little worried. If this beta is 1/2 of the first act, and there are 4 acts, then the actual game will be only 8 times as long. That is one SHORT game. The beta takes only a few hours to complete, so that means the full game will be something like 16 or so hours?!

    • Beta only takes 1.5hrs to finish. I'm sure there would be plenty of side quests to keep you busy in the full version though. There's also crafting and all that shiz..

      • Not to mention that one of the reasons the beta is so short is that it's very easy. Once you get further into the game with more skills, as well as harder difficulty settings, I'm sure it'll take longer.

    • Yeah, Diablo II definitely had larger areas, and in greater number.

      • Can't say that for sure given it's not released. Seems to me like what we've got is basically the same as the start of Diablo II up to Blood Rayne. That wouldn't be any different in terms of time, area size, or difficulty.

  • +1

it seem every time you restart, the map is slightly different.
You get access to different area.

  • -7

Diablo 3 is going to be a huge letdown, there's a reason why they limit the beta to only 1.5 hours of game, because the complete game is extremely short! I don't see why there is so much hype about a game like this!

    • +2

End game is where D3 is at. Also, you'll be making multiple characters and playing through the campaign on normal, nightmare, and hell difficulties. If you plan on playing this game like a traditional RPG with one playthrough, this game is NOT for you.

      • What's so interesting about playing through the same story multiple times?

        • +1

It's not just about the story. A lot of people play for gameplay as well.

        • +1

i suppose you would play wow for the single player aspect?

      • Well if it's going to be that short I think I'm going to create a separate Battle.net account just for D3, and then when I'm done, just sell the game along with the account. I don't enjoy replaying the same content over and over.

    • +1

I think it's premature to think that as the game isn't even out yet.

Doubt it will be short at all.

  • +1

During this beta weekend, I played 4 of the 5 characters and took them to lv 9-10 each. I've decided I'm not going to buy the full game unless there's a massive sale on it. I played D1 and D2 for years, but I just wasn't all that impressed by D3 for some reason. I can't put my finger on what it is exactly, but it just never grabbed me with any hooks.

I thank Blizzard for the beta and saving me some cash though.

    • i agree it seems like just a mindless zombie slashfest.
d1 and d2 seems to be a lot darker and scarier
