not sure if it maters but just a word of caution
coworker went through 4 of these and all of them from JBs (Chastone JB hifi surprisingly doesnt hate him lol) had dead or bright pixels or bad banding. Quality control wasnt very good. He also noticed it image processing would stutter with panning sceens no mater whats settings. Test example is Army of the Dead on Netflix when they are enter the camp on the bus.

As a result he gave up and went with the LG C1 77 and he is still happy and constantly telling us how good it is. He was previously a photographer for Australian Geographic and is our professional photographer and online media creator at my work so he knows what he doing image/media wise (probably a little OCD with quality but when your spending that kind of money and issues i have to agree with him)

He also thinks webOS it a tad better then GoogleOS (google OS lot more invasive advertising he said)

Dont know how many dead pixel is on his tv. I think having one or two is normal. My Sony tv has one in the corner that I can see only when displaying a white background.

Also there is no way an open OS with heaps of updates coming will be worse off than a proprietary OS that wont get updated to the next version just one year after release.

Dead pixels are not normal. It was a ploy by monitor manufacturers a few years ago so that they could get rid of faulty units.

      • I’ve been getting updates for my LG OLED with web is for a few years. And it still works very well.

@stealth007 … It matters, thats very usefull information for me thank u very much.
For anyone thinking of buying a QN85 here's another word of caution.
I'm just about to start the process of returning a Samsung 85" QN85 (only 2 months old) which has 2 stuck pixels and a sh_t load of juddering, stuttering and flickering. I can live with the stuck pixels because u can't really see them when sitting down on the lounge but the rest of the sh_t that's going on is absolutely driving me mental!
Like you mentined above no mater what settings I adjust, you cant get rid of one without making the other worse. If I try to fix stuttering and flickering it makes the juddering worse and vice versa. I was tossing up between the LG C1 83 and the QN85 and I ended up going with the QN85 as it was bigger and cheaper and no chances of burn in. I dont know what tv I'll look at now, I don't know if theres any decent tv on the market that has no juddering, stuttering and flickering.

There's no way I'd be able to live with any of what you described( stuck pixels included) at the prices some of these tvs retail for… Hope you get this sorted one way or another and the next TV is much better experience.

Interesting, I've had the opposite experience. No problems at all with my A80J and colour calibration is far better out of the box.

I find motion processing to be nicer on the Sony, but usually turn it off except to remove 24p judder anyway.

The best thing about GoogleTV is that you can disable it haha. I currently have mine set to 'apps only' mode, so no advertising or other crap is shown, just the streaming apps I want to use and that's it. However, you can also disable everything, I think it's called 'basic tv' or something along those lines. Strips away all smart features of the OS and turns it into a simple screen, which is perfect for when they stop providing updates in future and you just want to use an Apple TV or similar.

    • Fantastic image quality but the QC at Sony is absolutely atrocious and has been for sone time. If it were me and there were any problems, no matter how little, I'd be swapping it for another until I get one that's perfect. It's a $5k TV after all

      • I wonder if they’re made in China now and that’s why

    • Weird the number of upvotes for a secondhand account of one customer’s experience. Going by expert reviewer opinions and measurements from calibrated TVs, Sony A80J wins for most viewing uses (sports, movies, streaming, FTA) and LG C1 is ahead in gaming only.

  • That dead pixel and not the price is driving me back from this deal. Price is excellent - almost for a new car.

    • +2

Where can you buy a new car for almost $6K?

  • I’ve holding out for the 65 inch G1 for so long the G2 is almost here! (I think it was last on special for just under $3,400 three months ago). Hopefully when the new range comes out or in another 3 months it will drift to $3k or below. Been a bit of a wait though (I am deadset on wall mounting it otherwise would probably have just gone with the C1 the last 5+ times it’s been on special for around $3,000).

    • +2

You can wall mount a C1.

    • I am also waiting for the new range to come out, at a bargain price.

$6k for a tv? No thanks.

Especially after a guy in Melbourne had to return the tv a few times, as per comments above.

Seems like a rubbish deal to me all round.

65 inch A80J under $2800 at TGG. Best price I've seen for ages esp if bought with gift cards. Ive been waiting for stock to come back for a while. Off to get one today. Looks like the 2022 models coming out soon.

When did ozbargain comments become Reddit ?

  • Can't speak for the price, but I can attest that this is an absolute stonker of a TV. Seriously everything looks shit hot on it.

  • Does it need a Google account?

    • It's an Android TV so you will need one to download apps that are not already on the TV

      • But if I dont need any apps, will it work without account?

        • Yes, I believe so. I have not tried it tbh. One of the reasons I got the Sony over the LG is because of Android apps.

  • I still have this in my Sony cart for a price match from Black Friday. $5277 so a better price can be done.

    • Do you remember where you price matched it from?

      I've got a faulty 8500 series and they're offering discounted products, but for the 77" A80, they've offered $5400.

      • It was the good guys on cyber monday last year. I actually negotiated a lower price with good guys directly after Sony price matched, hence why it's still in my cart.

        • How much did you end up paying? I’ll try to get Sony to match lol

  • Has Sony finally fixed the issues for gaming ?

  • Same price at Sony and 8% cashrewards today.
