good brand, good form factor and build, good looks, but pretty disappointing specs.

    • lol it's like ASIO or the NSA building a laptop

      seriously man

    Wait for the China Bashing

Something along the lines of additional secret chips and back doors to monitor you.

      • +1

I mean they do it with wechat at least.

    • -3

Something like "Free 24/7 monitoring included with every laptop?"

It's like a Ferrari with a lawnmower Engine.

more like a Great Wall steed with a 3 generation old single cam mitsubishi four cyl.

oh that sounds like real life…

    $799 for 10th gen i5 no thanks

    • +2

tbf its in the name… "2020"

i mean its 2022 they tell me

      • Fake news!

  • CPU is a bit under-spec'd, but these are a nice bit of kit - premium look and feel, I dub them the windows version of a macbook

USB-C charger is nice, keyboard and chassis just has class to it.

Webcam setup is unique too, flips up from one of the F keys, so camera view is from a low point.

It wants to be able to see your whole room once the "surveillance features" turn on.

not just huawei bashing but man PC manufacturers in general need to stop copying apple, for one all macbook copies look ugly as, for two why are they copying apple designs in the first place. PC laptops can look good or even better without trying to copy apple's aesthetics. I know I myself would never buy a pc with a mac look. It just looks weird and no thanks I will take better typing feedback and keyboard layout over the 'apple look' all day.

    • +1

Because macs sell like hotcakes. They cant copy the OS so might aswell copy the rest of the formula that people are dying to buy

      • The OS isn't brilliant though

Your device has warranty since the day you bought it, and there's no charge if the performance fault is not caused by human damage and within 12 months of warranty period. Please keep your purchase proof for warranty claim. The warranty period varies with spare parts.

    Product Category Warranty Period
    charger and adapter 1 year
    other accessories 6 months
    Mouse has no warranty.

this is a dogshit warranty and i suspect huawei wiil treat you like a uighur during the process

    prove me wrong

You deal with centrecom, not huawei

        big brain move there

        live 30mins from repair centre

send laptop to vic. so they can send it back to syd.

so when it gets fiixed it can be sent back to vic, so they can send it back to me

    • +7

These Chinese hater has no brain, complaining standard warranty term typically used by all sellers.

This would've been perfect for the money but for the 250nits!

    • Was waiting for this comment

I am just here for the nit picking.

  • also hesitant to buy a laptop that has one service centre:

    1.HUAWEI Authorized Service Center-Happytel Auburn
154-156 Adderley Street, Auburn NSW 2144
    1300 482 934
    Mon-Fri: 9:00-17:00

I actaully live not far from here but i mean the rest of australia exists so…

    • One service centre is fine if their CS is good. I had a very good experience with Metabox, even if they only got a service centre in WA of all places.

Can anyone here vouch for Huawei is another story.

    • I've had to get my daughters screen replaced on her Mate book and had no problems, was a pretty smooth experience and I live in Adelaide

  • Can the RAM be upgraded?

    • +1

I had a quick check and it looks like it's soldered

    • one piece of electrical tape = conquers china surveillance

      • But the camera pops up on the keyboard only when you want it.

    • I'm a bit more worried about China's influence over our LNP government.

you can vote… with your vote

unless you're in china which you can vote for candidate xi

  • Thanks for this!

250 nits? Pretty sure a candle behind a piece of paper will be brighter than this.

  • i5-10210U processor - that's an awful processor

If the i7-10510u is bad, this will be worst.

I had the i7-10510u and I slept so much better after selling it on facebook market place and replaced it with 11th Gen i5-1135G7

    • Horrible!

    • Was it the 10 gen i5 processor that bad? I have an old laptop with 8th gen i5 and it works without any issues.

      • +1

        theyre exaggerating

its still 4 core w/ turbo and HT

but i mean is it worth it in 2022?

  • +2

The CPU is bad, the screen is bad, and not enough RAM.

I would avoid this laptop. Huawei make some great laptops, but this is not one of them.

  • So many negative comments but still 53+ up votes. Is it a good laptop considering the price??

    • its ok but 11th gen or current ryzen should be arouund the same price

people here really dont dig 3 gen old cpus for current gen pricing

      • +1

The screen is bad. Straight up bad. Belongs on a 500 dollar laptop. Also the amount of RAM belongs on a 500 dollar laptop.

I think people voted the deal because Huawei do make some good laptops and didn't really bother to check the specs.

        I would avoid.

  • Just bought one, good price, thanks

  • Horrible specs… but it looks like a Mac Book.

Does this come with built in backdoor microchip?

  • +1

Key components are all American such as the CPU from Intel and Windows from Microsoft. In terms of "spying", I'd be more worried about espionage from USA than from China as proven by the leaks from Julian Assange and Edward Snowden.

  • Great brand and quality as backed by the People’s Liberation Army 81.

Would recommend for all law abiding good Australian citizens.

It seems there's very little love for the HP: [link]
I would have thought the HP is better. Am I wrong?

  • +1

Been using one for 18 months or so. Biggest gripes are the rubbish (typical for Windows laptops) trackpad and the horrible pop-out camera.
    Generally very good though.

    • What are your thoughts on the negative comments above?

      • Not sure who you're asking, but above post is referring to the Huawei. I am think the HP (link just above) is much better. Despite few people voting for it.

        • Spec wise HP is better but the Huawei is made from aluminum while the HP one is plastic. Also no local warranty on the HP
