  • is it good for taking family video? asking for a neighbour's friend.

    • Depends?

What time of family video? For like a Zoom video call on a phone?

This won't be bright enough if you don't have any other lights on, or if it's at night. You'll definitely need some other light source (whether natural or artificial).

  • Australia Fair $29 today

  • $10 ! wow you couldn't make it for that! ;)

  • I am wondering how long this would last as a normal light source.

Thinking of using one next to my pc so I can turn off my normal room light and just use this instead since my lifx smart bulb died recently so no more being able to turn the light off in bed or from my computer using the mobile or desktop app which was super handy say when you wanted to kill the light in the room from your pc.

This item I could put next to my pc and be a lamp of sorts but no idea if the lifespan of the bulb or leds would be any good value compared to just a normal lamp and lamp bulb.

You can buy a smart bulb for like $5 nowadays, add one $5 for a table lamp and you have got a solid rig!

      • True true.

Would you be able to link me one for small bedroom usage.

I just need something so I can see in the dark not blinding me in the eyes but enough so I don't trip over mountain dew bottles lol haha.

Well for me lighting is a highly personal affair so cant help you with the style (colored or not, directed or diffused, war or cold etc.). You can check bunnings, target, costco, kmart, etc. for wifi/ smart bulbs. Almost all of them work with Tuya app which then connects to google for voice assistant. What you are looking is brightness (wattage/ lumens), connector type (B22, E27, E14 etc.) and whether you want an RGB one or a plain white one (which usually is able to switch b/w warm and cold white). Choice is endless :)
As an example, you can get this and put this in it or get this and put this in it. You can then control it with google home, such as through voice, or routines (such as turning on at sunset, etc.).
If you are not bothered with the smartness, you can put plain sensor bulb such as this one in your ceiling fixture but do note that these are usually timed and turn off after a few seconds, i.e. giving you enough time to find your way through the room to turn on another light, e.g. You will also want to turn it off at night or every movement you make in the bed will turn it on :) I use it in my garage and front door, and things such as leaves and moving branches trigger it though I am not bothered by that.

          • @Sfh1975: I am personally just after a cheap long lasting smart bulb with functionality to turn on and off from pc and mobile so desktop app and mobile app.

Option to dim is bonus but most economical value per hour is what I am after atm.

if you know a bulb that can do remote on and off and dimming no colours needed that is what I am after just link me some options.

            • @AlienC: A simple thank you would have sufficed :) In any case, check the links and they all work with google's home assistant. Not sure about PC though.

              • @Sfh1975: Ended up caving in and going back to LIFX.

Got a 2 pack for some smart white bulbs for $39.95 free delivery from Amazon AU thanks to Prime :)

                THANK YOU!
