    Buyer beware!
My partner was looking at flights to South America, and there are many recent negative stories about cancelled Latam flights where it's impossible to get a refund

    • +2

I don't see how that means the deal deserves a neg overall.

Good to know, thanks. I know of some friends who had the same issue last year. I guess we just have to wait a little bit longer, Airlines are just betting they will fly by then, but everything could change overnight

I flew Latam. Horrible experience after Qantas and Latam stuffed up the booking. Was standard there for a weekend and extra $5000 to get out. Took me 6 months to get my refund and no assistance at all. Had to get my Spanish speaking friends to help me with their customer service. Qantas was helpful on their part and admitted fault but Latam got nothing.
I'm avoiding LATAM at all costs now.
      FYI Just my experience :)

To contrast your story, when I had to get a legitimate refund for my south american cancelled flights it took me 6 months to get the money out of Qantas. I was quite happy with all my latam flights

      • Right now LATAM is the only airline offering one stop flights to South America from. Australia. There isn't much options unfortunately atm.

I've flown to Brazil with Latam several times via Santiago and have always found them very good.
      I'd highly recommend them.

    • LATAM Codeshare's with Qantas, we had no trouble flying with them on multiple flights within South America when I was there.

I tried booking a flight on Latam once, it was the worst experience ever. Their website is straight out of the 90's and was clunky AF and just wouldn't work, email and calls to customer service went nowhere, I never actually got a response from anyone ever even though I was trying to give them money. I even signed up for their mailing list and they sent me one promo email once in the last 3 years.

I wouldn't risk my holiday or my life on a business that can't even work out how to do online bookings or answer a phone.

I didn't fly Latam from Santiago but Qantas 3 years ago. The Qantas Business Lounge was the Latam Business Lounge in Santiago and it was very nice. The Qantas flight was one of the last 747s in service.

  • Just be aware, Latam is Cancelling lots of the flights from Santiago to Sydney or Melbourne.

    • Latam itself doesn't fly direct Santiago to Melb, they used to before covid.
All airlines are rescheduling international flights as they try to fill planes now many countries are resuming to a new "normal" - if you book a flight over the next month or two, expect a possible change to your flight.

  • Latam air isn't in the greatest financial position right now. We've been looking at flights to visit family in Brazil. We'll be waiting to see if they are still around later in the year, they could recover. Maybe Qantas will fly direct using thier Argentina/Antarctic route. Most likely we'll take the Qatar/Emirates route.

    • Hopefully Qantas does, but right now Santiago hasn't returned to its schedules

    • I would much rather doing the 16 hours via Sydney to Brazil, not the 40 hours via the middle east!

    • Here’s to hope that Qantas figures out a way via South America! I flew BNE - SYD - Dallas - GRU with Qantas and AA recently. It wasn’t fun at all. I’m not looking forward to returning in a few weeks.

  • Latam leaving the Oneworld alliance in 2020 also sucked…
