Makita 18v 5.0ah Lithium-Ion Battery $99 Delivered ($0 C&C/in-Store) @ Tool Kit Depot

1060

Been leeching off the website for quite sometime now, heard this deal from the radio last night and thought I might actually contribute to something other than voting for bikies for once. Not too shabby of a price if you are looking for a spare, this weekend only.

RRP of $149 and the cheapest I could find from simple google search is $110 off fleebay.

Edit: Thanks Keegs for pointing out the free shipping!

  • It appears that this is only a deal for those in WA.

    • +2

      Free shipping on checkout page.

      • +1

Cool, the +Delivery and the OP mentioning shipping is $67 to Sydney had me fooled.

    • Receipt for Sydney Bunnings. Enjoy.
      https://ibb.co/n747C1f

Works out about $89 each. Bargain! Thanks Op.

Definitely not worth it with postage fees. Great example of false advertising. Postage for these batteries is no more than $11 via Australia post

    • Free shipping on checkout page.

    • Shipping is free!

  • FYI in case you or others aren't aware, Tool Kit Depot is Bunnings….it's targeted towards the professionals / trade.

So no doubt all pricing between the two is identical or as is the case for this deal Bunnings don't carry that exact model intentionally.

I wonder if they'd pricematch it if they did?

Also it says "free shipping" for me in the picture of the battery in the ad

    • On the checkout stage it is free shiping.

    • +1

Oh that explains why this battery isn't available in Bunnings, didn't even know this place existed till the radio ad.

      • @LurkingLurker
Not available at Bunnings anymore? I bought the same battery from Bunnings last year from this deal

        • Couldn't find the 5ah version of the battery on Bunnings website, maybe they've pulled a sneaky?

          • @LurkingLurker: Possibly a sneaky. I would do the same if I was in their shoes :)

            • @Villainous: Not a sneaky at all. It's just that 5ah supply is extremely minimal right now and stores have basically been told to not expect them on their own for a while. Many stores haven't had stock for a while and at this point are just clearing them out. Hency why it hasn't been on the website for a while now. Not everything needs an agenda.

Same as for Ryobi, who have pulled the real 'sneaky' by stopping production of the 5ah to reduce costs and have replaced all their kits which had 5ah batteries with 4ah ones instead, while maintaining the same price.

              • +2

@Shekster: Just went down to my local Bunnings and had plenty on hand…

Price matched no problem. $88 out the door

Looking online at Sydney Tools, Total Tools, in addition to TKD/Adelaide Tools, everyone has them in stock so your statement is simply untrue

As for your Ryobi comment, if you understand basic economics there is no 'sneaky' happening whatsoever

                • +1

@Villainous: Good to know they price beat themselves. Thanks for sharing

                • @Villainous: Weird, considering this was from a Makita rep himself, and I've seen a lot of stores with no stock of the 5s on their own (plenty available via kits though from what I saw)

          • @LurkingLurker: Not sure why they would remove it from the website. Although this is possibly how they didn't capture this deal and reduce the price before I asked for the 10% price beat.

9 times out of 10 they would have already reduced the price before I can ask!

Seems to be free shipping to ACT when ordering two.

  • Is in store collect available?

    • Yes

      • Thanks, just got one for collect at TKD Malaga.

        • Collected mine today in Malaga. Nice price. It comes without a box and without the Plastic Terminal Cover.

  • Thanks OP just ordered 4. Yes free pick up in store. And yep the transaction went to Bunnings Pty Ltd.

    • -1

Only after the order did I see free shipping shows in the checkout stages.

    • -1

why?? people down vote this because someone bought a deal in ozbargain???

omg i bought some too. should i be worry about people downvote me now?

  • +4

Adelaide Tools has these for $99 too, with free shipping (not sure if free shipping applies only to Adelaide or is Australia wide).

    • Adelaide Tools is also owned by Bunnings

        So much pretend competition.

        • +1

It was a recent acquisition, a couple of years back.

          • +1

@browser: Last couple of years seem very long.

  • +2

Is this an coincidence? I was looking for this battery this morning, from tookitdepot side and now it's posted here. Is ozbargain spying on me?

  • Bought some the other day cheapest was $114, good deal.

  • Bought one!
    Good deal.

    Thanks to OP. :)

  • Thanks op, grabbed one for the mower!

  • Thanks OP - very happy with $99 delivered to Qld.

  • Thanks OP, grabbed one

  • Makita or Dewalt?

    • +1

These will only work for people with Makita tools. 😉

      • I have neither :) Just wanted to know which one is bester

        • +2

Hehe yeah I was being a dick. I’ve heard good things about both. Personal preference I reckon. Both are quality brands.

    • +3

Both are top tier. Dewalt is made in USA, Makita now in Vietnam, but both are well designed and high quality manufacturing. AvE has some nice tear downs on YouTube.

    • +3

If you're a DIY / home handy person (ie not using these commercially), it genuinely isn't going to matter.
Either is thing to be great.
Personally I choose Makita. I believe their batteries are marginally superior and the features on their tools also marginally superior.
If you're only a home DIYer, just get the best bang for buck from either brand.

    • Thanks guys, I bought one, will think about how to use it later!
I will look out for a special on a brushless driver with a charger :)

      • Why the neg! Some people have nothing better to do what a loser.

  • Awesome! Thanks! Just got Bunnings to price beat by 10%.

    • +1

That must have been quite the special, given the Makita 5.0ah isn't on Bunnings website.

      • Yeah, you're right. It isn't on the website. Certainly is in store though. It always has been. It's a very standard product for them to sell.

        • Nice. That’s a bit sneaky of them. Well done!

    • Receipt?

      • Sorry, if I remember I'll post tomorrow. Currently down in Albany so the receipt is in the car.

  • +1

just bought 4, hope they ship to me soon

    • Who the hell is downvoting someone buying a few batteries. FFS. I personally bought the ones I got for 3 people & have been searching for 12 months

  • -1

In few years 18v will be obsolete as Makita have now started their 40v range of tools n batteries but still good buy for those already in makita eco system, not so good if just starting

    • +3

8 years ago I would have agreed with you. But these companies have filled me with confidence that they will continue to support these ecosystems.
I at least certainly hope you're wrong.

      • +1

Always remember my large defunct 28v Milwaukee gear 😀

    • +2

18v will not be obsolete for a long time yet… 18v is significantly cheaper than 40v and will continue that way for a long time.

      • Actually they are not cheaper, 18v use 18650s where as 40v use flat lithium cells which are cheaper to produce.

        • +1

Makita 40v does not use flat cells yet. They use a mix of 18650 and 21700 cells. So far the 2.5ah and 5ah are 18650 and the 4ah batteries are 21700.

  • It's sad that when RRP is a ripoff, then a barely reasonable price becomes a bargain.

    • This is OzBargain, and not a soul has mentioned ebay generics?! Shaking my head here!

      • +2

They last 5 minutes (exaggerated) unfortunately in my experience. The poor man pays twice

        • I’ve bought 20+ from 5-6 different sellers. Bosch & Makita. One was DOA, and I sent a video to seller to show it wouldn’t charge, replaced with return.

I’ve had much worse luck with genuine Makitas. Why pay more :-P

  • +2

Price matched at Bunnings no problem. $88 out the door. Happy days. Thanks OP!

    • Any chance of a photograph of the receipt ?

      • Is there an easy way to do that?

You shouldn't need it anyway, Bunnings should price match. Model no. is BL1850B on website and in store.

      • I sent you my one just before it if helps. Good luck on getting them to replicate the price match from the docket. Will be dependent on having a pretty chill staff member serve you.

        https://imgur.com/a/c6lVw8R

        • Looking at your receipt makes me wonder why i was only charged $88 (exactly). Odd.

  • +3

Just went to local bunnings, they are full of shit at the begging said the item code is different to the online site and won't do price match because is an online store.

I show the ozbargain comments by others that other bunnings price match and beat without problems, and point out to him the code different is because bunnings using their own product label code, and it is clearly on the battery package showing the item code is BL1850B, which same as the online product, after the local bunnings guy saw all of these info, he stop argues and called his manager and said OK to match the price but no 10% off. And he told the cashier to put in $99, but luckily their cash register automatically offered 10% on top of the $99, so I paid total $89.10

If anyone wants to see the receipt, please tell me where to upload it and I can provide you the link.

  • +2

They just flat out refused to match it in Rockdale, nsw.
Said that they cant match reduced priced items from other websites/stores.
Sounded like a made up "reason"

    • +1

I got every combination at Padstow. First it was that they only match on a cheaper non-discounted price. Then they wanted to add the shipping until I said it was free. Then it was the wrong product code until pointed at the box. Then they just went back to having to add the shipping even though shipping was free. I couldn’t be bothered at that point. I’ll just order online.

    • +2

      They are full of sh@t!!!!

I even search their own price policy and show it to the guy, because there's nothing mention can't price match any online store items. I told the guy if other people can buy from other bunnings store without any problems and you can't do the same even the bunnings policy did not mention not accepting online store prices, I'm more than happy to try at other store and I'm sure I'll be file a report at the consumer affairs to this store. And the guy at the end did sold it to me.

Yeah they are just being difficult.
This is a brick and mortar store. at least here in W.A.

      I had no issues.

    • +3

I’ve had the same experience at Bunnings and EB Games. You’d honestly think it’s coming out of their wages. I’ve heard so many BS excuses.

  • +2

Price matched at Kingsgrove, no problems. Out the door for $89.10.

  • Damn, I missed out, but these guys have them for $125 (free shipping) and seem to rate well on google reviews.

  • I just picked mine up from the post office. Not sure why they didn't try to deliver maybe cause it says hazardous chemicals. Very quick turnaround!

    • Were yours in retail packaging? Mine were just loose with a single layer of bubble wrap inside a black plastic bag. Also the batteries are covered in some kind of tacky substance like spray adhesive. Hope they work ok when I charge them.

      • Yeah mine just arrived. Not impressed with just getting a naked battery in single bubble wrap and black plastic outer wrap. Should have tried Bunnings for a price match, only if I had seen people having success with that before ordering mine. Anyway here’s hoping it didn’t take too many knocks in transit and lasts as long as expected.

  • Both of my orders arrived (metro Qld). 27/02 -> 08/03, 28/02-> 09/03.

  • Still waiting here
